  • nice percussion section. at my school we have a pretty intense percussion section too.

  • so Topeka highs freshmen band has six songs and about a month

  • o c'mon clarinets those high D's aren't that hard at that opening melody after the intro

  • You're probably hearing the difference because we had so little time to prepare for that one concert.

  • How long did you guys have?

  • a month-ish... a little less.

  • Bull. We had a short time to master it too, and we perfected it for concert time. We got a 1 in our performance.

And we played it at least 8 times faster than this.

  • Oh I'm sorry, I didn't account for your amazingness, let me bow and get out of your ever-powerful way.

    Let me guess, you're American.

  • Actually, I'm Canadian. Calgarian. I hate the Americans; they can all die.

  • too slow. Avon high school freshman band did this twice the speed

  • Okay, well as soon as Avon High School could do that with about a month to prepair for a concert, then they can critisise us. We sped it up for the RMMF, quite a bit -- this was done in early December, when we got the song abuot mid-november. And we also had two other songs to get ready -- we'd rather have it solid with good tone and articulation than fast and crappy.

  • lol we did like 3 or 4 times the speed it was written in. SO awesome. Love this song, but wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too slow here.

  • I can see my lovely self! We've gotten a bit better in a few months, though. This was fun piece to play, regardless.

  • I am going to be playing the drumset at the competition for my band. Any tips?

  • yeah. Realx. If you're thinking about "fill coming up" and worrying about keeping tempo you're going to stiffen up and it's going to sound bad. Even when I was first starting out drumming, if I could get myself to relax, people loved it!

I love it when I can see a drummer casually play a song, because they're confident.

  • my personal opinion-the trumpets were blasting at parts and like you guys(flutes)didn't play like the really fast part going from like a low g to a high f and then to a b nat. and then to a d...but overall very good...your oboes were amazing...

  • One oboe, eight billion flutes and the saxs play the run too. Yes, they do play it but only a few do so it didn't pick up on the recording well (we find it better that only a few do it, to make sure it's acurate). We only have four trumpets who have to play over 60-ish people, so there's some stress =P

  • EDIT: I can hear the 16th note run just fine now that I listen to the recording o_O

  • yeah, but that's really cool, in the Avon, Freshman Black Band,we have two really good oboe players and it all just sounds really different...

  • Pretty good, except we play like, super fast...It's a lot more fun...6/8

  • Yeah, we're doing it at a festival in a month and we stepped it up waaaaaaay super fast.

  • Sweet, it's hella fun!

  • yeah me too

  • how come my solo isn't in there :'(

  • o.o;; every solo that's in Caliente is there... so if you didn't have one, then that's why xD

  • but my solo was on a different peice

  • Then why are you complaining?!

  • cause i was awsome

  • I disagree.

    OH BURN

  • ouch. do you know who this is?

  • Not a CLUE but I've gotten this far without you realizing xD

  • realizing what mel?

  • ... nothing. ;'D

  • this si ryan

  • Got it. I figured it was you or someone else.

    Aha. Fail @missed solo.

  • lol. of course

  • OMG You Got My Solo...You Rock Mellers

  • neat! i'm gonna conduct this scherzo this weekend. thank you for providing me such a nice sample!

  • Not a problem? lol! What kind of band do you conduct?

Our director sets an amazing example... I love his style. I don't know, I've dealt with a lot of directors over the past few years (clinicians, adjudicators, guest conductors, student teachers, other band conductors) and I'm most comfortable with his style because he seems to connect with the band ranther than just waving his hand xD

  • I rehearsed a high school band consisting of 9-12 drade students as a clinician. We'll have a concert today (Sunday). Keep your fingers crossed for me!!! I think you're a lucky musician to see such a director.

  • Oh! Good luck! Let me know how it goes... I hate how some people disrespect clinicians -.-

Although, the last clinician we had was downright nasty to me... picked on EVERYTHING lmao... but he was a percussionist, so I shrugged it off.

  • Sweet!!! We're playing this song, except a LOT faster. Times this by like 5. It sounds pretty good fast.

    But anyways, good job!!!

  • Yeah, we practiced it WAY faster too... I don't know why we performed it so slow. It was paiful for me because I was working off mostly double bounces in rehersal. =/

  • Ha ha, nice. Yeah, we preformed it in Edmonton the other day, and then some critic told us to play it slowly. I think I died (I play the cymbals... crash and suspended. It took my forever to hit it at the right timing.)

  • Wow we really sound good. Of course that sixteenth note run that we had so much fun singing didn't turn out that well, but otherwise, it's just great.

  • l.o.l.

  • Bravo

  • whyyy thank you!
