Anybody catch the Purple Haze riff? I watched them live in Manchester, England and this song lasted about 20 minutes. Each player, including Tower of Power did a solo. It was so outrageously good. And some drunk Mancunian kept yelling out 'Play Ghostbusters!' He tried to get on stage and the security dude threw his ass out. What a night...
@querschnitt LOL I'm totally here cuz of the ghostbusters law suit, this music kinda sux tho, it was kinda cool in the beginning how those saxophone guys were really into the opening LMFAO
This is a song for all ages. No one cares about anything but themselves. We all just want to feel good, no matter what. The truth hurts but you can't deny it.
Funny thing is, the ghostbusters song was actually written before this one, and it hit the charts earlier, too. I love both, so I dont care what really happened. It's still so catchy!
When the similarities between this song and the theme song of the 1984 film Ghostbusters were heard, Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarism, claiming that Parker had stolen the melody
@jaimel180 The story I heard was that the producers of Ghostbusters wanted Huey Lewis to write the music for the film but they were doing the music for Back to the Future at the time. They then heard this and asked Ray Parker Jr to write something like it.
xD, just came back after some months seeing my old comment has 70+ thumbs :D
Thank, hehe. ( if you're curius my old comment was just me being mad about people thinking that this is a copy of ghostbusters when it was the other way around )
surprised more people haven't commented on how UNBELIEVABLY PERFECT everything about the live production in this is, not to mention the amazing musicianship. It sounds as though this is a studio recording, right down to the perfect snare drum sound...yet it's all live. These guys were gods.
There is no music like this today..All junk and trash. Huey Lewis defined what cool was back then. He truly said it in his song "Hip to be Square" He didn't need any electronic enhanced voice stuff, this was all him. Loved him then and still do.
Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
TRY GETTING A RESERVATION AT DORSIA NOW YOU FUCKING STUPID BASTARD! YOU, FUCKING BASTARD!
@KidMoneyFresh420 The whole comment is from the movie American Psycho. The book and movie are both excellent. I wouldn't read it or watch it if you're uncomfortable with grisly murders, torture, mutilation, graphic sex, etc.
It's not so much that he got ripped-off, it's that Lewis had turned down the offer to write the theme song for Ghostbusters; then they steal this tune and write it theirselves. It's more the fact that basaically made money off him whether he liked it or not. I would be pissed too.
@thatXxFRESHxXguy I think we will always say things like this about the great music of each era and genre. But I am glad that today's artists are looking forward, evolving, and inventing, So that in 20 years, I can look back to today's music and remember it fondly, just as we look back to music like this video and get nostalgic. So, yea, you are right, but its not a sad thing.
All you have to do is listen to the song and know where Ray Parker got the music. Huey Lewis because of previous engagements couldn't do Ghost Busters. Yes he did win the law suit and rightfully so. Huey Lewis is a class act and I have always loved his music.
@donuthead551 lol technically :P he wrote this song, and when Ray Parker Jr. did the Ghostbusters theme (becasue Huey Lewis was too busy working on Back to the Future), he ripped off this song. HLN sued, and won :) but they couldn't change it because it was already such a hit.
when I was 14 or 15 I wore a Huey Lewis and the News "I want a new drug" concert shirt to middle school and my math teacher took me into the hall, to try to talk to me about drugs! I said, "It's not about actually drugs, it's about love" OMG! memories!
Ray Parker Jr. lost the first (initial lawsuit) and then filed another lawsuit against Lewis after comments made during a recent interview... both settled accordingly!
Does anyone know where this is available to buy? this version was a b-side to Power of Love 12" way back. Didn't realize there was a video recording of it. Any helpers?
