Mike, been fan for long time. Since Boston "acoustic" music is scarce I created a PDF of your acoustic rendition of this song to play. Nice creativity for the critical D C6 Gsus G chords riff. Working on acoustic version of We're Ready
there's just one advice I can give of these brilliant guys... just search for a window bro! the light of the studio videos is really poor, kind of sad, doesn't relate with any of the songs.... just in my opinion, it'd be perfect to place the recording stuff near sunlight, better if profile!
(2) Do you recall what (if any) additional processing was done on the vocals for this video? and
(3) You have a gift, and I hope you realize just how much some dream of being able to do what you can do. I'm sure that gift also took a lot of hard work too. Don't ever take it for granted!
@mynewobsessionrocks Took some voice lessons in college (I was a music major undergrad). There was lots and lots of vocal layering, to try to get that "Boston" vocal harmony sound. Also, chorus, EQ, comp, etc. The usual. And thanks! Glad there's a small audience out there for what I try to do.
Why can't I stop watching this video EVERY time I get on YouTube? Why? Because it is one of the most incredible things I have ever heard in my life! Absolutely awesome! Did I mention INCREDIBLE??? Did I mention AWESOME??? Great job Mike and Jeff!!!
i have to say that this is incredibly good. If you ever come to Boston I would come see you in a heartbeat. I will subscribe to your site, Thanks for bringing back fond memories with a great song.
I have seen this video about 5 or 6 more times since I last posted a comment. I am proud to have found this. I love it.......this is the future of OUR music.
Wow. Just wow. If you had not told me anything and just played it for me, I woulda thought it was Brad Delp himself recording a second version (except for not being able to reach that one "long" note at 1:40). Good stuff man. Listening to the original now as I eat lunch. Keep it up.
@TheSwee Thanks! But, to be fair, Brad doesn't hit the high note on "long" until the second time around. My attempt at that is at about 3:05. I readily agree I'm no Brad, but I did my best not to wimp out on any of the high notes. :)
One of my favorite Riffs at 1:00, great job on the acoustic Mike. Actually I always thought you could easily confuse this song with 38 special they are so similar in style.
I was COMPLETELY blown away... I love when people can redo a classic, and with such precision... I loved it so much I posted it on facebook. Not since Theresa Andersson's one girl band with all her looping stations was I so amazed at a performance. I hope to see more... maybe even some Supertramp... (Roger Hodgsons performances of course.) Keep going... I'll certainly buy a cd of yours.
I too am a musician from southern New Hampshire and met Brad Delp on several occasions. I can only reiterate what was said above: He would have loved what you've done here. Beautiful job!
are you listening to the actual song with your headphones on? because sometimes you have them on and you're playing guitar and there would be no reason for this unless you're listening to the actual song or possibly just vocals or a beat or something but thats a good idea because i know a lot of songs on guitar but have trouble remembering them, i can play them good if im playing along to the song though. unless you have them on for some other reason....i dont know, whatever.
@landonowski I'm listening to the click track while playing the guitar. I did do my best to match the tempo of the original, but I'm not listening to the original while tracking.
Every time I say there is no way these guys can get any better, you come up with better cover. So I am going to say again, this is probably as good as it gets.
Mike, Brad Delp was a friend of mine; He lived a few houses down from my sister in Atkinson N.H. and his band Beatlejuice played around that area a lot right up until his death. (there is a picture of he and I in my facebook pictures taken a few months before the end at a club called "whippersnappers" where they played frequently)
He would not only be proud and impressed by this cover of yours but he would have probably tried to talk you into going out on tour with them as he did NOT want to.
@mcolquitt you were very lucky to be a friend of Mr Delp, he came accross as a beautiful human being and has left a fantastic legacy, RIP to him and peace to you .
@Hotlinktyler1 Thanks. But when I listen to the original, I still feel a bit embarrassed that I even attempted it. There's just no touching Brad's performance. This is probably about as close as I can get, and yet it's still far, far below the original. Just my $.02.
@mikemassedotcom If anyone could come close to Brad's vocals you've done it here. I've been subscribed to your channel for a long time and I think you're too hard on yourself. Your voice is incredible, your playing is solid and your harmonies are RIDICULOUSLY awesome. If you admit that you're awesome we won't hold it against you :P Plus Jeff is always fantastic, it's rare to see two people who fit together so well. Keep on rockin'!
Holy Sh_t!!! This is unreal, awesome!!! You sound like you could be Brad Delp's twin. I wish I could have seen Brad's face to hear you do this rendition + A Man I'll Never Be!!! I too watch plenty of covers and this wins the academy award !!! I would love to see you guys on an acoustic tour with Boston. That would be the most amazing tribute to the greatest rock singer of all time in my opinion. Keep doing more BOSTON. I would love to here u do RTZ's "Until Your Love Comes Back Around"
If you guys ever went on one of those TV shows like X-factor or American Idol, all the other contestants would pack up and go home as soon as you started singing.
WOW!!!! Almost as good as the real thing.!!! Your version of "A Man I'll Never Be" is awesome as well. The emotion in both of these songs are great, but quite the opposite. Brad would be proud!
I knew you guys would look like you were having more fun playing your music somewhere else than The Pizzeria. Awesome as always!!!!! Would love to hear some originals. Love your voice, Mike.
This is singularly the best video of any cover song I've seen on youTube - and trust me I've watched 1000's of videos. It is simply AMAZING! The two of you have God given talent and you play beautifully together. I don't think Boston could have done a better version. A big, big, BIG thanks for putting this video together. Rock On!
I listened to your cover of Long Time, then I listened to the real version of it, and I couldn't tell the difference. Like no joke, you have such a great voice. You have an amazing gift. Use it to its fullest extent. Keep rockin' man, you and Jeff!
Wow, I'm just totally speechless... nobody does Boston, right? At least not in the past 30+ years... Man, that was beyond great... You guys have no boundaries!!!
Who needs coffee? This is a brilliant pick me up; the great time you were having recording this song is infectious. Hope there are more like it. I just hope the adulation from the pizza customers doesn't go to your heads too much though ehhh?
mike can u cover this song.. forevermore by side-a band,, i know you are not familiar with that but it`s a nice song,,just search it here on youtube,,
You guys must be the coolest dudes in all of Utah.. Get on the road and give the US a taste of your kick ass covers!!!!!!!!!! -- how many times have you heard this request and is there any chance of you guys doing a little road trip with sprinkled shows here and there?
GREAT JOB! As usual. Glad i ran across you and jeff on here. It cracks me up when you guys do a killer rendition of a song at the pizza pit and you get a few slow claps. And you just kinda laugh. GREAT STUFF GUYS!
Unreal mike! I truly hope people realize the talent it takes to hammer a boston tune like this! There's not many people who can confuse me as to if it's the original singer or not...but you can! Keep Rockin the jams dude!!! A++++++
ok, so they hired the Home Depot guy to replace Brad. if you had posted this 2 years ago you would be fronting Boston now. I'm not kidding. And who knows, HD boy can barely shake a tambourine and has no real musical background. It's never too late.
mike.. what can i say that hasnt already been said..but this is a rocking verson of long time.. and i cant wait to hear the next one- and jeff hall you rock also.. ..
I had my tonsils removed in my teens and I tended to have a higher vocal range, but I also think that using the capo helps you to sing in higher ranges.
@mikemassedotcom That's true, some songs are written that way... I don't know what I was thinking. Are you using a harmonizer or is that a backing vocal track?
There should be 7 million view and not 7 thousand.Man what a great song from Boston. One of my all time favorite group. You do it justice my friend.I've seen other cover from Boston, but you kick ass!!! Keep them coming and rock on my friend.
Just watched one of your other songs and how could I not click on this video right after. Can't get enough of Mike Masse. Thanks again buddy for sharing your talent. Cannot wait for more!!!!!!!!!!!
@aorphia Hmmm, interesting theory, but I doubt that's the reason. Probably more to do with me 1) taking allergy medication daily now, and 2) getting my tonsils out a few years back. My throat has generally felt consistently better since then.
WHO THE FUCK ARE THE 2 PEOPLE THAT DISLIKED THIS VIDEO?????? I shall hunt you down, tie you up, then play this song on repeat until you like it!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic as always. Finally got around to subscribing but have been checking in on your channel religiously for months now. Best vocals on youtube. I know you're bombarded by suggestions, but mine would have to be 39 by Queen. Would love to hear you guys belting out those harmonies at the pizza place : ) thanks again.
I had to show my wife this video as it is unbelievable great. She insists that you guys are not playing and singing. She said nobody can sound that accurate to the original. LOL!! Great job guys. I love all your video’s – especially One Tree Hill by U2.
A Marvelous Work and a Wonder... You were able to capture the sheer joy of Boston's "Long Time" using an acoustic, a bass, some hand claps, and your voices. No Wurlitzer, no electric, no percussion... Simply amazing work. I've seen Boston so many times over the years, including a performance at BYU back in late 80's (Third Stage album). I will admit that your work and Jon's One Man Band are running neck-n-neck doing this cover. I will pass this off to a friend of mine who will really enjoy list
When the video got to the Delp-Doo, I busted out laughing and my 19 year old son just thought I had lost my kind. Had to backup and play again I was laughing do hard! You did an AWESOME job! Harmonies are gorgeous!
Thoroughly awesome! It surprises me to this day that after "Man I'll Never Be" Tom hasn't hit you up. Radio Head to Boston - - - - - Woo Hoo you are the only that could pull it off. Can't wait for the next surprise.
I mean. I know you don't live in California. But. If you ever wanted to play in a pizza parlor in Santa Cruz, I wouldn't be opposed to you playing at Woodstock's Pizza. Just saying.
Boston kick ass! Your voice get so much better overtime... It's crazy. Even if I am not a big fan of those groups you're covering, I can appreciate the talent and works you put into them. It really shows off, so much that I do listen to your songs more and more. I would so like to hear some type of songs that are more progressive. (Rush, Genesis, YES, Camel, Cream, Opeth, Nevermore and so many others). Thanks for those good videos by the way!
couldnt hit subscribe fast enouph....you obviously have a real talent and a love for music! thanks for keeping it rockin'

You guys sound great as usual. New rule though. If you are going to do any more Boston songs, Jeff has to wear a Red Sox hat. ;)

I mean. I know you don't live in California. But. If you ever wanted to play in a pizza parlor in Santa Cruz, I wouldn't be opposed to you playing at Woodstock's Pizza. Just saying.
Do it. Thanks in advance.
