I did my lip myself. Once it started to swell just a little, I cleaned the outside of my lip with alcohol, rinsed my mouth out with mouthwash, cleaned the bar, and washed my hands before doing all of that.

I was soooooo scared of infection lol. Even though slight swelling it natural with any piercing x3

I was just paranoid :P

& I still have the piercing today, plus 3 more! :D

The first time I had my lip pierced I was 16 and my friend did it in the toilets in our local pub. It never swelled, pussed or hurt. I'm now 23, have 18 piercings and have re-pierced my lip various times myself at home. You absolutely have an infection :/ swelling can be normal but sometimes your body can try and reject the piercing. If it throbs and has a burning sensation - take it out.

Your lip will always swell I have done 23, of my own piercings..I'm not a professional, you don't take out a piercing that's infected you clean it, and take a antibiotic, if you remove it it's a open hole for germs.

I'm always really annoyed by this self piercing stories. If you do a piercing yourself you should expect something to go wrong. People train for years to do this and random people think "Oh, I'm bored. I think I'm gonna pierce my lip." It's plain stupidity. First of all, I'm not going to comment saying you're dumb because others have already told you. I've done my lip myself, the swelling was pretty brutal too, however it WILL go down if you use bactine and saline solution about 3-4 times a day.Taking the piercing out will only cause more risk of serious infection.

1. Dont do it yourself.

2. If you took Paracetomal/Aspirn; DONT because it makes the swelling worse. You have to take an Anti-Inflamatry like Ibuprofen or a cold compress like a flannel on it.

3. Make sure you clean it and dont touch it with unwashed hands.
