Soooo cute! Funny too! I had a painted female last year, and she always would follow my hands after I would empty food into her aquarium. She was a good turtle. I let her go though so she could go 'winter.' She was already wild.

Our turtle used to follow me up and down the house all the time. It was cute, 'cuz he'd scamper down the hallway just like that, and just when he reached me, I'd have to go back down the hall again. He always looked back at me like "Dude, SERIOUSLY? I just got all the way here!"

My friend's R.E.S. is a 10 yr old 1 ft. female. She has set up the spare bathtub just for her. She has it fixed so the turtle can get in and out on. It roams freely through the house. It does know it's name and it's preferred place to sleep is in my friend's lap. She will set in the floor and it will crawl into her lap by itself. It is trained, in that it does use the tub for eating and doing it's business. It's amazing at how intelligent this turtle is. You would have to see it to believe it!

I can't wait until my baby red-eared sliders are of this age! I got them last August as hatchlings, so I'm marking this August as their one-year checkpoint. They are all so healthy and beautiful! I have three of them and they are all moving to a 100 gallon vivarium soon, though I know by the time they are this size I will probably be down to one or two of them and they will be in outdoor ponds, like you said. I love turtles, they are wonderful pets. I DO recommend getting one!

@TheBettalover123 I got my turtle from a pet store because they found her in a parking lot. If it's gonna be your fist turtle, Red-eared sliders are best because they are more hardy than painted. I have a Female Painted, and a Male Slider. You can find them at many lakes and swamps.

Just to follow up on the description (great advice), a good alternative would be Yellow Bellied Sliders or Map Turtles as they are both similar in traits and needs to Red Ear Sliders except they stay a lot smaller. Males will usually only get 5 or 6 inches, I think females get around 8.

Anyway, judging by this video and the fact you installed a pond outside, it seems like you're taking good care of your slider which is more than I can say for alot of people so thumbs up for you :)
