  • I loved when you looked up you could see the coaster cars glowing like rockets and stars and planets in the background. It made us think we were really looking up at space when we were kids back in the 70's. :) Haven't been on the new version yet....maybe when I move down to Florida in a year or two! :)

  • Really well done. Thanks.

  • Very well done!!

  • i remember standing in a hallway with a bunch of planits out of fake windows then wher i was boarding it there where astroids shooting across the rof tht was cool i went to the one in florida

  • went to disney member the old type love the new version too

  • I was there in agust i really like the new version....iv never seen the old version before but it doesnt look at fun as the new...sorry to those who love the old version...i still respect the old version though

  • I miss Dick Dale's Guitar music.

  • weird hmm they still have the entrance in my disney i gotta not go there DX o.o

  • Not to be rude but the one in Florida was the First 100% indoor ride.

  • @knucklesfan8 The one in Florida doesn't have music making the one in Disneyland much better.

  • @Chris9017

First off, it does now, and second, what does that have to do with what I said? And besides the roller coaster part in Florida is more intense and the blue tunnel there is better so I'd say I like the Florida one better.

  • @knucklesfan8 Does it during the roller coaster part? I've been on both space mountains, and I find the one in Disneyland to be more intense, and a lot more thrilling.

  • @Chris9017

I used to not. When they refurbished it they didn't add music right away but by now they have music. And I don't know. I just find the Florida one more thrilling. But I respect your opinion.

  • @knucklesfan8 I grew up with Disneyland Space Mountain, and I take it you grew up with Florida's so it makes sense and I totally respect your opinion too.

  • I liked the old 70s look better

  • also the music was a lot better in the old space mountain....

  • Disneyland needs to bring back the People Mover, that was the shit

  • I was very young I barely remember the old space mountain. I just remember the waiting hall thing. xD

  • i will wish to ride the old space mountain i never ride it

  • arg not disneyland

  • im scared

  • Space Mountain and I share the same birthday XD

  • the old boarding ride looks boring

  • they also ruined star tours, people mover and the submarine ride

  • I can remember on the People Mover ride here, they had an area where you were able to see into the ride. Miss the old Tomorrowland..SIGH..

  • Didn't the one in Walt Disney World come FIRST, though?

  • @RocketRodder Yeah, in 1975... although as the WDW Space Mountain was based off of DL's Matterhorn ride (some say exact same layout, some don't, but they are similar...) it could be said that Disneyland had it in 1959! Anyways, pretty much everyone thinks the Disneyland one is better.

  • I've got to say, I love the new Space Mountain, precisely because it doesn't feel new. New stuff is tacky, and new sci-fi is tacky. Space Mountain has a very seventies feel to it, it's got a sort of "2001: A Space Odyssey" feel to it. And that's a spacey as it gets.

  • Is there a reason they changed Space mountain or was it just to make it new?

  • @deflepnBonJovi4ever It was just to make it newer, update the track, senery, etc.

  • @beatledude64 That and to replace aging, cracking steel parts on the ride. S:

  • You do realize none of this is true unless at Disneyland! -.-

  • i went there a coupke yers ago, and i have to say it was fantastic! i loved it so much! not only is waiting in line pretty interesting because of all the things to look at, the whole space add a bit of mystery to it all. and in the boarding room if you watch over head there's stars and every now and then an asteroid. its just great! i cant explain how amazing it is to go on it for the first time!

  • @EvolutionRider909 u mean green and brown

  • i liked the brown and bronze it gave it a robot/futuristic look

  • i think its better now but i agree with keeponrockin404, it can't replace that classic feel that u had b4 they changed it.

  • 2:04

    before was better

  • Even though I never rode it, I prefer the old Space Mountain. It has that classic feel to it.

  • The new one is better. The music from the old one made no sense. It was a better fit for California Screamin'.

  • @Benstudio13 Ignorance.

  • @Keeponrockin404 So you prefer listening to surf music while your zipping through space more than the sci fi space music?

  • I went on the Florida one in 1978 it was great fun, I wouldnt go there now, all that fingerprint shit is mad, they dont do it in Disneyworld Europe (where it would be a thousand times easier for "Al-Kayda" to bomb it anytime, if they existed).

  • @soupage23 you realize that they don't actually use you fingerprint right? it's a biometric system that is taking measurements of the fingers bone structure. Even that information is only stored until your ticket expires.

  • SPACE MOUNTAIN LOOK BETTER IN WHITE PERIOD.

  • THE VIEWING WINDOW IS OLD SCHOOL,THAT WAS THE BAD ASS PART.I WISH THEY NEVER TOOK IT OUT.

  • space mountain suck when the mountain was gold, green copper color, also adding a tv, and robots made it worse,i like it better in the 70's.but now the real space mountain is back.

  • this was actually one of the few refurbs that has acually made me happy.

  • the new one sucks without that old SPACE music they would play as u rode the ride, in the old one,, that cheesy style space music of the 70's, was epic for the ride, and also u were able to see the star's alot brighter as u rode and the planets, and the outline shadow of the bars of the coaster, that looked like it was gonna knock ur head off as u rode, the new one just dont have the same feel of space anthem as it did befor

  • I loved the old Space Mountain, but I can understand why they felt they HAD to make a newer version.

Either way it's still awesome in my book.

  • the old one reminds me of the original 1978 star trek with the utopian feel to it ( or the original battle star galatica), the new reminds me of the 1980 and beyond star trek movies

  • you did a great job with this video! 5 stars:)

  • Here's something neat I discovered: If you have Google Earth, use the time slider over Space Mountain in California, and one date shows part of the dome copper and the rest white.

  • i like the new look. it feels more futuristic. the old one was kinda boring to look at. now its wow, like you are on a real spaceship

  • 1:48 looks like a rave in the queue(:

  • I don't like the new queue area at all. I miss the observation room.

  • i was to young when i went in 2002 i was scared we didnt come back till 2006 when i was old enough my sister said there both great so thats why i looked it up

  • I liked the old queue better because it felt more human with all the blues and whites, but the new one seems so much more alien with all the shining metals and reds and purples, aloso the loss of the veiwing platform was a reat drag because it was interesting same with the T.V.s

  • why was my comment removed? just wondering love the music FINALLY got it on my ipod

  • @leiviskaboy That's odd.

  • @beatledude64 dude ik but i guess it doesnt matter cause i was asking for an mp3 version of this and i got it

  • I don't like is the new queue area to Space Mountain. I liked the old Queue it was better. The old did'nt have welcome Space Travelers every min which it can get annoying. The Old had entertainment while you waited for some more minutes. The old had the com chat also inside the loading zone. The walls of the new make me feel clusterphopic. The old looked more like a space station also had the fedex robot. I miss the viewing glass. I like the old soundtrack better and old rockets better.

  • I love the fact that they keep the rides different from Disney land to Disney world... "It's not much of a surprize anyway since walt never repeated anything exactly the same twice"...it's more interesting that way

  • 1:00

    brown space mountain!!!!weird

  • I still keep thinking that Florida could have used a bronze repaint of their dome. It would look a little bit cooler!

  • LegoKid606 i think i saw it that way when i was little

  • i miss the viewing room

  • I just stumbled on this. I have been searching for the old "com chat" for years. It has been impossible to locate. Standing in the old space mountion with this playing as a kid was amazing. Who ever found this and uploaded GREAT many thanks to you!!!!!!

  • I remember the old space mountain. I liked the viewing window they had in the queue.

  • i miss disney i am never going again

  • aww! I feel bad 4 u leiviskaboy! as if.. I go every year D:

  • @101KisshuFan101

like ik not everybody does but im NEVER going again

  • Comment removed

  • I went on it when I was like 8.

I remember when it closed down.

    I hate it.

    because I couldn't wait anymore.

    Idk which I like better.

  • Sometimes "progress" changes things that don't need to be changed...

  • i remember this when it first came out we were going to go onto the monerail then a lady asked us if we would like to try out the ride before other people, so we tried it out, it was fun but not as good as the old one

  • You missed the robot at the loading platform that would scan the FED/EX boxes and talk.

    HE'S GONE!!!!

    :_( I will miss him.

  • wow, it seems prereno space mountain seems more, legitimately "spacey", I mean that if I didn't know any better I would believe that the deco matched the current technology......

but now.... just look at the queve! its like triangles that go inward and shit

  • So, when you say "old", you mean two re-dos ago? I'm so confused.

  • I mean pre-2003.

  • i have never been on the old space mountain. i fail lol. but iwish when i went it was closed. i like the new space mountain.

  • did it ever have a sound track before the refurbishing

  • It was not the first indoor rollercoaster

  • the first indoor coaster was space mountain at the Walt Disney World Resort

  • Thank you for some back-up.

Disneylands was not the first indoor coaster

  • 9 more days till the 32nd anniversary :]

  • what is this music called i really want to get it. if you have it in an i-pod format please reply to this message.

  • Comment removed

  • wooops nevermind

  • What does that have to do with it not having a soundtrack

  • not the one at disneyworld and tokyo disneyland those are the only 2 space mountains without soundtracks

  • disney world does have a sound track its called star tunnel music.

  • No that is the queue music i am talking about on board audio on the ride

  • Most of what WDW has on their soundtrack will be on Disneyland Resort Anaheim soundtrack. Whatever they both have to the same.

  • Disney World's Space Mountain would not be the same having a soundtrack. It's fine the way it is without music on the trains. The Disneyland soundtrack plays in the post-show.

  • No. The one in Japan got a sound track after the refurbishment. The one in WDW will get music because it closed April 18th for a refurbishment like the others did in 2005.

  • No the Japan one never got one after refurbishment

  • wowo we

  • umm...you are showing different for each part of the ride..like in the beginning with the hall way pictures your showing and comparing different areas just to let you know..

  • sorry i put a 1 star rating i went to pause and my hand jerked i meant like a 4.5 or 5

  • Space Mountain is so much better white than icky brown and bronze.

  • @bomberguy06 Good thing they had a refurb in 2003-2005......

  • Um how was this the first fully indoor rollercoaster when 2 years earlier SM opened at WDW and it is completely indoors?

  • I meant that the Space Mountain series of rollercoasters were the first to be completely indoors.

  • wow! Soo good! thank you for doing this, I forgot just how much they DID change it!

    I love stuff like this.....lol

  • What an awesome video! I definitely remember all those old features. I gotta say the new space mountain is better but there is one thing I miss... the viewing room.

It gave me the chills because it was a short glimpse of what to expect. I totally remember this huge piece of very dark plexiglass type stuff that you could barely see through. Still though I remember you could see swirling stars and a random cars racing around. It was sooo cool. Too bad they covered it up.

  • The reason they took it out is because it brought to much light in there ride. Too bad there is no way they can keep it with out bringing light in the ride. I remember passing by it and hearing riders scream as the cars zoomed by .

  • @briancalifornia1 They could have done is have a one way viewing glass like you see in movies or in supermarkets. The Mirror side goes to the ride side and glass side queue side. I know what makes it too bright is those disco balls . They could use top tech for star making . I would want the Aaron Richerd/Dick Dale soundtrack to return to Space Mountain.

  • Brings back the memories...

  • i dont remember the copper green color...i was ther in 98' (i was 3..but i remembered alot from that trip)

  • It's funny because I went there all the time between 1998 and 2003 when I was like 6 or 7 and I didn't remember it until I researched it about a year or two ago.

  • yeah, i only remember the paris one being that color

i love disneyland and my dad even worked there and i didnt remember that

  • It got repainted for the 1998 uplift of Tomorrowland, from the white to the copper. It was like that until 2003 when it closed for renovation, and became white again.

  • My dad use to work there to he worked on the autopia, matterhorn, submarines, people mover and other attractions

  • i went on space mountain 2 days ago and went on it 6 times

  • I went in 2005. I got to see the new stuff in the que. I didn't get to go on it at that time. It shut down on us before we got to the trains. I finally got to go on it in last year when I went in February. It was amazing! Space Mountain is awesome! :D

  • i have never ridden the old version at disneyland, but i have ridden the one at the magic kingdom. i like the one there a whole lot better than thew new space mountain

  • Some people like the one there better just because it has more drops instead of turns but i like ours better because it's alot smoother and darker and has a soundtrack

  • i hardly remember the old space mountain... i wish i could go on it again, lol. the music was sooo much better than it is now.

i think they should have made the new space mountain more thrilling

  • The new Space Mountain is the same layout as the new one. WOW!!!

  • I like the new Space Mountain better, but I miss the old viewing window. They should've kept that.

  • They should of kept the viewing window but the problem was it brought too much light in the ride

  • yeah...kind of defeats the purpose of flying through space.

  • whats the geosphere?

  • Right when u enter the space room, you turn 180 to the left. in that little "U" turn, there was an orange glowing ball thing, which was the geosphere.

  • cool, thanks

  • dam i went to disneyland 2 times 2003 and 2008 it was closed i wish they did it in 2004

  • i miss the old space mountain, seeing the trains pass by the queve line was very cool. i also remember more drops on the old space mountaint, but i could be wrong.

  • I liked the old queue better and I also liked it when they had the planets in there.

  • Copper-Green looked Real NIce!!

  • the new smoothosity was AWESOME! but i liked the gold, green copper color better...

  • @crazycaterpilla i know, i liked the gold/green/copper scheme better

  • One thing from old space mtn I liked better: the music.

  • the original never had music. im guessing you are refering to the first renovation when it was painted copper and the dick dale soundtrack was added am i right?

  • Ya, you're right.

  • old space mountain was much faster then the new 1.

  • There's no difference, and I found the new ride to seem faster.

  • i wonder how long the lines were for the new space mountain when it first opened? probably like 4 hours huh?

  • I have no idea. The first time I went on the new 2005 Space Mountain was in 2007.

  • I went on the 2005 Space Mountain on October 13th, 2007!! It was awesome!

  • October 13th, that's my birthday. Wow, what a coincidence!

  • You are incorrect in some areas:

-In 1:45, the "after" pic you showed actually used to be the upper part of the viewing room. You should have shown the area before the turn-around into the loading area

-at 2:27, the original name of the ship was CMB-300 space probe, the new one is DL05. It was named DL05 for Disneyland, 2005.

Other than that, good video ;)

  • 1:45

I knew that the "before" picture was in the area before the loading room, and honestly, I didn't think people would notice that.

    2:27

When I said "original DL-05", I meant that the ship in the picture was what the DL-05 is now, I didn't mean it to be the ship was called DL-05, but I wasn't sure what it was called, so I just put "original DL-05"

  • I was just clarifying, just in case :)

It's really a great video, with awesome pictures. You did an excellent job.

  • Like the befor and after pics.

  • wow thanks!! i really wanted to see again the room at 1:50!

    thanks!! :D
