  • I think it's good.

  • Speaking as a person who has used trash bags as a rain poncho and stayed dry, I 99 cents sounds good to me.

  • Very true, cheap stuff has it's place. Use a good one to sleep with and use the cheap one for a hundred other uses.

  • there are so many uses for these..

  • What do I think?

I think that you don't always have to spend big bucks on gear. Sometimes the cheaper stuff works good too. Sometimes it doesn't. It just depends on what it is.

Of course, the more expensive stuff should last longer, that's why it cost you more. But there will always a place for more affordable versions of something.

Everyone likes saving money on things...

  • yes this it true. don't knock the cheap stuff it can be very usefull at time and won't put a dent in your pocket.

  • I've got 2 of these cheapies, and cheapie ponchos, in all of my vehicles. They are there for "emergencies" and nothing more. Better to have it, and not need it, than to need it, and not have it. I do throw a couple of wool blankets in each vehicle in the winter though. Got stuck in a freak snow storm, with a hundred other vehicles, once. And we were one of the few that didn't run out of fuel running the engine for the seven hours to stay warm. Amazing no-one died of asphyxiation in that mess!

  • Frugal is smart. I love finding ways to meet my needs on the cheap. My favorite right now is using Dunkin Coffee mylar bags as water storage. How about that one?

  • I agree 100%! I had to use a cheapy with a buddy of mine on a day hike when the weather changed fast on us. We were "cold & wet!" Used a Target 50¢ emergency blanket (they were half off) to reflect the heat from a fire and it worked great! It meant cutting it and duck tapping it but at that cost and weather, who cares?

  • I think they're nice n small, and the quality depends on what you're using them for. For a little more bulk, and a lot more firepower for a low price, I like the giant heavy duty trash bags. I'm not all that impressed with the AMK blankets. I do like their big bivvy bag. If you could find some cheap full length plastic bivvy bags, I think those would be an awesome addition to any kit. The thin space blankets don't make good blankets, but they are good multipurpose items as you said.

  • i love these, however they look geeky when being used in a non emergency situation. thats why i carry my snuggie (in cheetah print) =D The ones I have are marked "space" blanket, I got caught without a sweater on a disneyland trip once and this thing helped out a lot. It pays to be prepared!

  • nice video keep up the good work

  • The difference between $400 and $100 is $300. The difference between $4 and $1 is $3. $3 is definitely worth the price of having an EMERGENCY piece of equipment be a better quality. If you are using one of these blankets you want to be 100% sure they will stand up, etc. For me, for the price of a Starbucks, I'll try to get the best equipment available. The cheapie blankets tear a lot easier, and nothing reflects when covered in duct tape. MHO.

  • Can you use one of these to hide from an FLIR?

  • all i heard was wooosh wooooosh wwwoooooshhh wh wh whoosh lol

  • i used something similar last night, and it makes a lot of annoying noise

  • @bmx1994mathisen Lol, yes, it sure does, but it will keep you alive in a cold survival situation.

  • @Jesses001 I know, but i will not recommend this to use as a primary shelter

  • I would buy them!

  • I think you're correct. The "best" is not always required. It's all about getting the job done in a cost appropriate manner.

  • wow, thats cheap.

we have to pay 1 euro over here in germany for those chinafoils!
