  • I love this Fantasy Piece. I'm playing for it for my sophomore recital at Delaware State University. I'm a clarinet major there. Nice job, but my personal opinion, try moving a little less, it can affect a person's tone.

  • This my solo this year too! :)

  • This is my solo this year :)

  • I think it's a great think to move because it makes you feels the music inside of your body. Of course, it will not be the same with a orchestra, but when you alone with the piano, you're allowed to to everything you want. You can take for instance, thew first clarinet of the philharmonic orchestra. When he's in the orchestra, he doesn't move, but when he plays solo, he'es dancing with clarinet and the music. An other case would be Charles Neidich, search him on youtube an you will see

  • I am 12 but i can't quite do the third movement

  • Very well played!

  • your going way to fast... thats not how you play the song.. it doesn't sound beautiful rushed

  • @clarinetfreak444 i get what you saying, but music isn't just about how the audience.not at all

  • I like the fact you don't stay still. It makes it look as if you're enjoying yourself. Played with control. Since this is an exam piece I would give it a 29 or 30 out of 30!! Very good.

Clarinetist/Saxophonist who knows this Schumann movement very well.

  • @NintPrankster126 its not a hard piece...but they try to make it seem like it is...

  • how old is this guy....or any of you that are playing this song. because i'm 13, and i play it

  • @2015072 same! im 13 and implaying this

  • @crazyme106 ME TO!!! but im 14 now...

  • I have to agree that the movement was a bit excessive. Especially when he started conducting while he wasn't playing. That's a tad unprofessional. But honestly, I find myself moving with the music when I play (though not that much) so I can't judge for that. My biggest problem with this is the tempo. I have a student preparing this for contest now and if I remember correctly, the tempo is 80. This was done closer to 112(ish). Mr. Schumann specified how fast he wanted it played. So don't stray

  • -__________- *jealous face*

  • I am so glad you posted this because I have to play this song in a competition in 8 days and I just couldn't get it to sound quite right. I feel a lot more confident about playing it now. You played it really well by the way.

  • Such controversy about moving.... I personally just do what i do.... for orchestral audition setting i would try not to move whatsoever...

  • Great use of dynamics, wish i could play with such quality.

  • if you think that the Clarinet is playing a Clarinet, instead that a Cello, you may understand why they picked a faster tempo :-)

  • I'm playing this for Lessons, and needed a reference on style. I must say, your tone is pretty good. Keep up the good work!

  • i'm playing this song for a solo and it's really helping me keep up with music to keep it flowing=)

  • I never said he played bad or anything. He's really good. I just didn't like the movements. But that's just my opinion.

  • a beautiful piece of music, played extremely well. wish I could play this :)

  • @howeyman09 I play the clarinet.

  • Stop dancing. You played it well. Just don't move around so much,

  • @piggyfart1 thats not how playing an instrument works

come back when youve mastered the recorder

  • @piggyfart1 I liked his movements. Your just stupid he was moving in a very well clean way it only added to the piece. Go watch Sharon Kam play the Mozart concerto. Also you probably suck the at the clarinet so. ya.

One of my favorite Schumann, love playing this piece.

  • @himrasmus101 Just because you move with the music doesn't mean your smart and an all amazing clarinetist. Our No. 1 Trombonist, in the State, doesn't move when he plays. It's all in how you feel about the music. My lesson teacher, doesn't move. I personally think it's dumb to move, and that's my opinion. Where as you like the movements. It's like UIL, what one judge likes about your style, another one may absolutely hate... Just depends on the person.

  • @titanband2010 well every single judge ive seen likes movement....and ive been in some concours and placed decently high...winners always have movement and i doubt that is a coincidence....and i have never seen a trombone move before or even play solo on stage...so i wouldnt be surprised if they didnt move. I played this piece for a concours 2 days ago....and scored the maximum points...and guess what i was complimented on the way i moved....from all th judges. strings/woodwind/piano movesmostly

  • @titanband2010 So what makes him better if he doesn't move? Quote "It's all in how you feel the music" I play the piano, I move because it gets me in better with the dynamics Solfège/Rythmique is the term for it look it up.. you sound a bit naive

  • @codycrowder Some of my favorite performances have been by musicians who move with the music - its almost as if their whole body dances with the notes. In the end, any movement that assists in the production of the music - that enhances its emotive and expressive qualities is appropriate. Only those movements that hinder music production and distract from the spirit of the piece have to be controlled.

  • your whole comment was an insult to his intelligence and the world of music.. plain and simple

  • @codycrowder I've been playin my horn for almost 8 years, & you tell me I sound naive. Yea might wanna check that. I'm not insulting him, I'm telling you my personal opinion. And you moving is how you get in to the music. Personally, I don't like moving, it makes me feel uncomfortable. I mean yes, I think that he does a phenomenal job playing this piece moving or not. I'm just saying that, if I played it I probably wouldn't be moving with this piece. No way in any shape and I insulting him...

  • @titanband2010 "I don't like moving, it makes me feel uncomfortable" Seriously, who cares. Just keep it to yourself. And 8 years is nothing when it comes to classical instruments.

  • @titanband2010 8 years really isn't that long. just saying, you probably think you know a lot more than you do.

  • I'm playing this song for a solo. Great job!! 5 stars :)

  • Why the hell is the clarinetist facing the wall and not the audience?? Also, too much swelling, it makes me seasick.

  • the piece is supposed to swell. its part of what robert schuman intended, he was actually thought to be crazed with some mental disorder when composing the fantasy pieces

  • thanks for putting this up, it eally helped me because I'm playing this for my solo in my music class, I really like how it's a little bit faster, it makes teh music more enjoyable, it moves it along

  • i have to learn how to play this in 2weeks!!! well nothing is wrong with bieng last chair

  • This was my audition piece years ago, awesome!

  • Wow...very nice! I've never heard it played that fast either, but it definitely puts it in the mood of a fantasy or Soiréestücke (night piece). Thanks for the inspiration for my audition with this piece!

  • Great playing !

I have never heard this played so fast but it sounds lovely - well done.

  • Playing this movement and the third movement of this for Senior Districts SE auditions. So easy!

  • bandxlover- haha me too thats awesome. its not that techniclly challenging...but it has to be amazingly expressive haha. good luck though

  • Yeah, and since it's rather simple, everyone's gonna have it. Dynamicssss. Good luck to you as well. :]

  • Me too. But it's not so easy as you say it is, when you include everything.

  • Yeah I know, but it's much easier then last year's. I didn't try out, but my parents had wanted me to.

  • Bravo, très bien joué avec beaucoup de forces et d'émotions

    שלום.

  • That's amazing.

I'm playing this for my grade five exam.

I hope I sound just like you :D

Thank you for this amazing video.

  • I'm playing the clarinet part for NYSSMA.

But I think he's playing it too fast.

  • very nice. i definetely like the tempo. it really makes it move nicely.

  • the Music has to make sense, that's all.

  • It's his interpretation of the piece, he can perform it anyway he wants as long as he feels it is right to him. I personally thought it was fine. When I performed this it was only a bit slower than this.

  • it's supposed to go at quarter note = 80

  • You can play the song however you want. It does say 80 BPM, and this is about 108 BPM. I actually like it better this way. It's actually whatever the musician feels is best.

  • i'm doing this for my recital at school

  • Pretty good playing here. But of all the dozen records I've heard I have and all the performances I've listen to then this must be the fastest played. Even Gervase de Peyer who I've always thought played it very fast doesn't play it near as fast as this. There are too many musical nuances lost and it doesn't sound too romantic.

  • I am not sure that there are so many musical nuances lost, and I think that you should hear the Cello version...

the music must go,the lines sholuldn't be broken avery 2 metres as happens very often

  • r u saying that the cello version must go?

  • just the Music... doesn't matter what instrument you are palying.

  • go as in flow right, no real breaks

  • this is amazing, i want to play this song for festival and i only hope tha i can play half as good asu did here. terrific work!!

  • I played this peice a few years ago and enjoyed it so much! I love playing and hearing the swells in dynamics and speed-just adds to the emotion so much! Thanks heaps. This is an awesome performance!!!

  • I played this peice a couple of years ago, and enjoyed it so much... I love playing and hearing the swells in dynamics and speed-just adds to the emotion so much. Thanks heaps. This is an awesome performance!!
