Did he ever live in those three and twenty years for a thing but movement and location? If she'd raised her voice not her sparkling shallow eyes to indict my movement and location Would the battle be lost? You can watch the tape You can try to hit your spots But don't do it for anything but the love of movement and location Or the battle is lost
So they went with a different recording set up, big deal. Good musicianship and song writing is still good musicianship and song writing, no matter how you capture the sound.
Jazz-electro-trance-grass!?!?! these goobers are having way too much fun! jump on their bandwagon or bemoan "their old sound" on the side of the road they're paving!
@drsuessre14 the music itself is fine, not as interesting as the older stuff but still good. It's just the mix itself has made the music lose its spark. It feels more like a radio hit rather than their older stuff which had a stronger lively vibe
@professorlamp No complaint as far as your reaction goes. I do wonder about your "engineer/mixes" comment. There are several versions live on youtube. They're playing the music, I'm pretty sure. Or am I misunderstanding what you said? Also, something else to consider: their songs being less "in your face" as far as technique goes is no point against them. From comments Thile has made, in fact, it seems like he's becoming much more about the soul or emotions that are invoked.
@drsuessre14 (Cont.) Notice as well, as I'm sure you have, that there's quite a bit of incredible technique going on in this song. Here I'm thinking of the banjo especially. But even if that wasn't the case - suppose the song had no fanciness in it at all - *still*: this song takes you away. It lifts your heart (or at least it does mine). It's the Punch Brothers reaching new heights or *different types of* heights... Anyway, just some thoughts. ...
@drsuessre14 If you and some others don't connect with the music as you once did, then, in a sense that's a strike against the Punch Brothers. So, I definitely think your reaction is something to take into consideration. My reaction, though, is one of complete satisfaction. ...So far. (Haha.) Peace.
@professorlamp I definitely hear what you're talking about, in that the album is far less "Live" than the previous two, and has a more studio/produced feel, but I think it fits these songs much better. Antifogmatic was very raw, but I think for something like Blind leaving the blind, it was necessary. This is a new album with a new sound, but I definitely like it, and think that they have made another fantastic album.

Love the song. I wasn't sure if they could top "Antifogmatic". Just pre-orderded the new CD and can't wait to hear it all.

Gotta be honest, a bit disappointed :(
Sounds like they have a new engineer doing the mixes and the song itself is just a bit mumford and sons.
I'll still buy the album and just hope they have some stronger tracks on it.
