I'd like to know more about what led up to this. If what happened was an unprovoked attack on Rainbow Family members by law enforcement as was described here, then yes, the event is appalling. But I do remember the '60s, and there were cases when members of the hippy community themselves initiated violence against the law; it's just not clear to me what happened here.

The LEOs entered Kid Village with their weapons drawn (Kid Village is a camp for parents with kids) We politely requested the LEOs put their weapons away in the presence of children. Rather than doing that they opened fire on us with pepper balls. Check the other vids if you don't believe me.

This was my first gathering and I met veterans, teachers, former police officers, lawyers, artists, spiritual leaders (pastors, monks, ect). I did meet a few homeless people but these are not regular members of the rainbow family gathering. They are just homeless people from the area who hear about the gathering (free food, water, entertainment, education, ect) and come to take advantage of that. We do not believe in turning anybody away! We accept people of all walks of life.

It is this Incident Management Team that came into kiddie village in riot gear pointing guns at children, and slammed a woman on the ground for asking them to stop pointing there guns at her children (she asked over and over but was polite about it). She was nice about it, but she kept asking them over and over. Explaining to them there was no need to be pointing guns at our children. I'd like to know more about what led up to this. If what happened was an unprovoked attack on Rainbow Family members by law enforcement as was described here, then yes, the event is appalling. But I do remember the '60s, and there were cases when members of the hippy community themselves initiated violence against the law; it's just not clear to me what happened here.

I was at rainbow when this happened, but in a different area. If the rainbows had resorted to violence, the police would have been outnumbered and driven out. Its easy to harass people that won't fight back.
I heard from several people that a little kid was shot and detained.
Anyone know if there was any truth to that?

This was my first gathering and I met veterans, teachers, former police officers, lawyers, artists, spiritual leaders (pastors, monks, ect). I did meet a few homeless people but these are not regular members of the rainbow family gathering. They are just homeless people from the area who hear about the gathering (free food, water, entertainment, education, ect) and come to take advantage of that. We do not believe in turning anybody away! We accept people of all walks of life.

I ran out of space, I was going to add that I know a lot of the people there cleaned some of the homeless people up, took them into there homes, and helped find them jobs. The rainbow family gathering is a great place for a homeless person to find kind loving people willing to help them get back on there feet.

People dont pick up cameras till after the cops started causing problems... the cops caused this not the rainbow family.
It is this Incident Management Team that came into kiddie village in riot gear pointing guns at children, and slammed a woman on the ground for asking them to stop pointing there guns at her children (she asked over and over but was polite about it). This is when the cameras start rolling. They had no reason to slam her on the ground and that is why people are upset.

Actually the cameras did not come out until after the woman was grabbed by the hair and slammed on the ground for asking the officers to put away there guns in kiddie village. She was nice about it, but she kept asking them over and over. Explaining to them there was no need to be pointing guns at our children. They got mad after a while because she would not stop asking them to put away there guns so one officer slammed her on the ground. Grabbed and pulled her hair, and put her in cuffs.

lhdahl, I myself have had the law mess w/ me, in the Utah gathering of '03, I was detained for 2 HOURS! in the heat for walking down the road to get to the city to buy milk, I'd done nothing wrong, They handcuffed me & refused to give me any water. After a search, finding nothing, no one said anything except for the female state trooper, "GEE I'M SUPRIZED THAT YOU'RE WEARING A BRA, THE OTHERS' DID'NT."
Gathering in '06 was better, but they were very mouthy & rude.

They ran after the forest service, they threw whatever they could pick up and most of them were too stoned to care about the kids. Nobody did anything to move the kids. Tell the truth. Actually nobody stopped anybody from being arrested. Nobody threw rocks (just watch the videos) and there was a big effort to keep the children safe. There was lots of people trying to keep as many children away from the commotion as possible.
