  • WOW , the shade cloth is a great substitute for it is light, breathable, transmit shade and sunlight and easy to cut . Speaking of which , People need to realise that this idea would be long lasting for the owner intended to house some pigeons . Do your research. Doves are not efficient for fraying this for they do not have curved beaks the way parrots do . To conclude, great job and i hope the birds are really enjoying it :)

  • @younesmarkiis1995 Thank you for your comment, mate! It is magnificent to watch the pigeons really fly inside this avary. They are certainly enjoying it!

    :D

  • i just brought my second parakeet home because the first one was lonely, and the first one Autmn just started mauling the other one with love abd face cleanings X)

  • That is ridiculously enormous.

  • nice aviary you got i just perfer myself you have budgies

  • @lectro28 Thanks!

  • wow that is an amazing aviary! well done

  • @aurorascopic Thanks!

    :D

  • how much did you spent in making that?

  • @TheArvinian01 About $800, if I recall correctly. We just bought the materials and we built it ourselves.

  • how do u keep it hot in the winter?

  • @bangalikid Oh, we really don't have winter here. During our "winter" we could have a few nights of 4 to 6 Celsius degrees, but during the days it always goes to a very warm 25 C.

  • @CillianTheJoker What if a gum tree snaps in half and destroys my own house? Ha ha ha...

Mate, I will start worrying about it when -or if- that happens...

    Enjoy life!

    :D

  • @Nannaroo17 I think he means because shadecloth is very easy to slit open with scissors or a knife, as opposed to standard aviary wire. It's also very easy for birds to chew through. Just saying, be careful. Great frame though, I like the design.

  • @mynuttybirds Yes, you're right when you say that shade cloth can be cut very easily, but here there is no chance of somebody breaking into my yard -I have four dogs- and setting the doves free. That would never happen in Australia..., not in small towns anyway. You can see kids' bicycles carelessly left on the driveway and nobody would steal them, etc.

Now, there is a campaign asking people to lock their car and not leaving the keys in the ignition!, ha ha ha...

    I love Aussie Wonderland!

    ;)

  • where did you buy that mesh?

  • @TheKettavan At Mitre 10.

  • @Nannaroo17 do you think i can buy galvanized mesh?

  • @TheKettavan Sorry for the very late reply, mate.

I'm not sure, to be honest. I guess you can use galvanized too, but you will have to ask at the store.

  • @Nannaroo17 Galvanized anything can kill your birds if they put their beaks on it.

  • @14Raine14 Oh, I had no idea!

    Sorry!

    :/

  • jelous.i wish i had the money to do that

  • @greenpalaka Honestly, it wasn't that expensive: We got the door and the poles for free as "metal scrap", dumped by people.

We just bought the poles for the roof and the joints, the aviary mesh and the shade cloth.

    We built it ourselves.

The most expensive thing was the permit from the council. :/

  • Hey i like your style of aviary - i might use some of your concept on what i build. I'll pimp imine out though and heavily plant it - lots of branches, logs and perches & their beloved shelter from the wind/rain. My birds love their home - they'll go kicking & screaming till they know they went for someplace bigger than they thought was big. Good job to you.

  • @poppylaw1 Thank you for your comment.

  • the enclosure was pretty spacious!..anyway?? australian wildlife is pretty much in-your-face... parrots of all kinds seem to wander everywhere..

  • Have a room for a human?

  • What kind of human??

    :D

  • I can see your dogs wagging its tail in the background heh. It's nice to see someone go out of their way and build a nice big aviary for 8 little doves that cost about $25 each in the USA. I had three of them once but they got adopted. I love the coo they make. Nice thing you are doing. Does it ever get cold enough there that they need an enclosure?

  • Yes, the ringneck doves are pretty cheap here too. We adopted them from the RSPCA. And they are 10 now, because two chicks were born a couple of weeks ago, ha ha ha... ;)

...And as you could see, my dogs are pretty happy with the aviary too, ha ha ha...

During winter we could have a couple of nights with 4 degrees C (39 F), so the doves can stay in the aviary all year round.

Thanks for your comment, and warm regards from Down Under,

    :D

  • it is so weird that you have such a beautiful aviary and you keep birds like doves!

  • Sorry, mate. Maybe you don't know the difference between pigeons and doves. Or maybe you don't know about the unique Australian wildlife. If I would release my doves into the wild -something I certainly would LOVE to do!-, they would be all dead within days! In Australia there are NO ring neck doves in the wild! Too many predators down under. I'm just saving their lives. Nothing is perfect, mate. Sorry! You can ask the RSPCA (from where we adopted them).

    :)

  • No man, you misunderstood me. I know all of that and i actually keep Australian species here in Greece and its the same thing. The fact that i find weird is that you have an awesome aviary and you keep doves that in my country are as common as the house sparrows and the pigeons. And in their place you could had beautiful species as gouldians, firetails, strawberry finches, etc. I didnt know that you were from Australia :/

Here we keep your diamond doves in the same way ;)

  • Sorry for the misunderstanding, mate! (And I am a woman, by the way... ;) ) Well, I heard about a couple of doves and a chick just seized from a house where they were kept in appauling conditions and in a very tiny and filthy cage. So, we adopted them and wanted to give them a nice life. Now there are 8 of them! That's why we built the aviary.

We also have 4 dogs, and all of them are adopted or rescued.

I will have a look at your videos. :)

  • If I was a dove I would want to be in your aviary, nice job!

  • Thank you IndigoBlu35 for your very special comment!

If you were my dove, I would let you free, knowing that you would return to me. No aviary needed. ;)

    :D

  • Like your aviary, just wondering what happens when it rains? I hope you are going to cover one end to provide your birds shelter.

  • Very good comment!

Yes, we already did. I have to make another video of the aviary the way it looks today.

This video shows the aviary as it looked after being just finished.

Thank you again for your clever comment! ;)

  • we have hundreds of these here in england living wild, i hear them in the morning cooing to each other on the roof,

  • I love their cooing too!

We adopted a couple with their chick from the RSPCA, and now we have 8!

They are so very happy in their aviary!

Here in Australia I haven't seen any in the wild yet... :/

Thank you for your comment, mate!

    :)

  • you have RSPCA in australia too? good stuff :) and your welcome mate :)

  • damn dude u live in australia? u lucky and wtf dude u have none of these in the wild? strange i always see them,an i think u are doin a good job with them, but shouldnt there be a bigger space for them to fly? ioh yh try an experiment let some of them on the wild ones u have more and see if u can make them live and breed in auystralia, dat wud be cool

  • Yes, I'm very lucky indeed for living in this Aussie Wonderland!

I would love to be able to let my doves free, but they wouldn't survive for long. We have lots of Whistling Kites and other predator birds and also Possums and snakes. All of them would kill all the doves in a matter of days. Sad, but true.

This type of doves would live about 5 yrs in the wild -except in Australia, as I said- but about 25 yrs in captivity!

And about building an even bigger aviary, well it is a thought... ;)

  • Very Nice!

  • Nice! I just wish I didn't have a cat... then I'd have a nice Aviary outside in which I can move around if I wanted to if I so happen to move. I dig your aviary... looks cozy. :)

  • Thank you, Mabelphoto6!

The only cats I sometimes have are my neighbour's. :/

They lay down on the aviary's roof trying to figure out how to get in...

    :(

  • Great video, we have them wild here in South Central Texas. I have a short video at my site.

  • Hi Rztexas,

I just watched your nice video of the ring neck dove. It is very nice! :D

    Thank you for your comment!

    Regards from Down Under.

    :)

  • WOW...........

    very very nice

    great work!

  • Thank you!

    :D

  • Wow, that is just amazing. So relaxing too lol.

Where do you live? The trees in the video are so cool. My Ringneck's would love something like this!!

  • Thanks for your kind comment.

    We live in Queensland, Australia.

Our doves really love their aviary. Before we built this for them, they were in a cage about 1.2 metres long and they were hovering like helicopters instead of flying.

    Here they can really fly!

    :D

  • my little aviary would fit inside yours!! regards from ireland.

  • Ha ha ha...

Warm regards from Ozland to you!

    :)

  • Wow - it looks awesome - I won't show our dove, he'll go green with envy :)

  • Thank you for your comment, mate!

    ;)

  • Congratulations! It's enormous and looks great.

  • Thank you, Viking!

I hope our doves will feel happy and almost free in there!

    :D
