This happened to me once.The trick is to punch it right on the nose. Avalanches have sensitives noses and it will cause them to swim away

I love the fact that when they get dropped off by the chopper, there are chunks of windslab blowing around, and they still go for it - all at once! Talk about not reading the signs.

Its a layer of compacted snow caused by snow being loaded on a slope by the wind. You can see the chunks blowing around in the video. It's a real tell tale sign of avalanche danger. Probably the most obvious one short of there being a big crack in the slope!
