by the time the melody/vocals come in, the crazy noises in the beginning are hardly noticeable. it's like being in a room with a fan on, in a few minutes you forget it's there. contrast at it's finest.
sort of reminds my of when your in a tent or some sort of trailer in the middle of an isolated forest, and you can hear the rain hitting the roof. ahhhhhhhhh.......so soothing.
I think that is indeed a shame that more people can not be exposed to the past works of AC. For they are literally genius, untraceable masterpieces conjured from the imagination. it is AMAZING how alien yet distinct albums like danse, spirit, and hcti were. I will ALWAYS congratulate AC for their genuine cerebral approach to music and their enigmatic quality! Will be my favorite band til i croke!
AC fans can like old or new stuff. It doesn't matter. Just like how you can like early Beatles or late. As long as you listen to them is the important thing. So shut up!
I'm a "new" fan of AC, but I prefer their old stuff. I especially like Spirit and Dense Manatee.
I feel like this band is still retaining a unique sound while becoming more poppy, but the problem is that they aren't really stepping out of the boundries of any genre anymore. Hell, they seemed to have created their own genre that only they have the skill to play, but this old stuff just couldn't be labeled into any box.
pride and fight is incredible, in the same way that is the first couple minutes of hey light. I would have given anything to see the performance in 01, it's on youtube. fking amazing sht
This video was uploaded 3 days after the 'My Girls' video. this one has 160 views at the moment, 'My Girls' has over a million. I think it's a shame how all those 'new AC fans' don't know nothing about AC's earlier work. They don't know what they're missing; this is far more intresting.
I kinda know what you mean. I found out about AC right when Feels first leaked, and immediately became obsessed with researching their mysterious past. As stuff became more readily available they continued changing their sound over and over. It really is wonderful to know this band in the fullest way, instead of just by their new, poppy material. I don't believe My Girls is a shame...it's just what they're doing and it sounds good.
@opgezettevogel But at least we're getting more people to listen to real Music! Some of them will adventure into what Animal Collective used to be...
In the same manor, you perhaps should be more open minded to their new stuff? Animal Collective still is Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Geologist, + Deakin; They're progressing in life, and their music is a reflection (always has been/always will be).
@opgezettevogel "far more interesting" is pretty subjective. This is something totally different and I wouldn't call their new work poppy. More like trance-evocative. The richness and scale of sounds they use in their new materials make a whole new world, whilst this may be also hypnotic, it's not that positive (which is not a bad thing, it's just different) and it's much less dynamic as the newer stuff.

I don't think 'My Girls' in general is a shame, but I do think this is one of their more interesting works.
