Why do people have to pidgeonhole everything? I never saw a single vinyl having a "This is New Wave" sticker on it. Everyone has his own suggestion of music styles and it's ok this way ;)
Listen guy, David Bowie is glam rock, Eurythmics is synthpop John foxx would almost be early industrial more than new wave at best it's also synthpop, Peter Gabriel in general is not new wave but this song sort of is, I guess. But Gary Numan is more dark wave than new wave, overall good songs, but 5 out of ten definantly aren't new wave
I don't agree with you man. New Wave is the general term - industrial and dark wave or synth pop can be its subcategories . All these songs were written more or less late 70s and early 80s and artists like Gabriel or Bowie were always into trends so we can call their songs of that time as new wave.
Look, I'm not arguing the point that Gabriel's music can in any way be generalised as 'New Wave', because it clearly isn't. However, like most true creative geniuses he always had a finger on the pulse of musical trend. If you're seriously telling me that you don't think 'Games Without Frontiers' is New Wave, then what exactly do you think it should be categorised under?
All this pablum. Flying Lizards and Devo, and Nina Hagen were real New Wave. You do have Gary Numan, who I see as part of the real New Wave. I do have to admit I listened to The Furs back then, and I danced to the Eurythmics- there wasn't much else to listen to in Phoenix at the time.
Metal was murdered by New Wave. Doesn't matter if you liked it or not. At the time this was HUGE. The influence from New Wave and synthpop is evident in nearly every single piece of music produced after the fad.

New wave was the best. In LA we had KROQ and it rocked all day and all night. I just want to go back to being 14 thru 20 when life was fun. This crap world we live in today sucks..So does my mid life crisis. I feel 20 but I am 43, it sucks so fucking much. 80's forever. I used to always have girlfriends and had Sex. Bitches today are not interested.
