I agree, EssJay00, I completely agree. I'm a total chickenshit and love scary games. It doesn't take much to scare me, so I was looking forward to this...but I was so disappointed. The atmosphere was dime-a-dozen horror cliche, the sound design wasn't anything special...it was all BOO scares. Phooey, I was expecting so much more, like Silent Hill or Siren Blood Curse. I would've been happy with a Resident Evil clone, but it wasn't even that. I'm SO easy to scare and it didn't scare me. :(
i agree that the game does have and indeed relies on cod scares at times, but what strikes me is the pervading sense of "somethings not quite right here" that I think is one of the game's strongest points. At the time it came out, I was blown away by it. There's no game since this, in my opinion, that has even approached the mastery of the shootouts and the graphics are still pretty good. However, it isn't perfect like I said earlier lol.

Then again, it is different when you play the game by yourself when this was recently released.
It focuses on the FPS play and i have to admit that things get really old.
