I go to York, and I have to say this place sucks compared to other schools.

...The campus caters to over 50 000 students. A lot of those students live in dorm-style residences where they rely on the meal plan at York to eat. I wasn't aware it was "corporatization" to offer students as many food choices as possible. Imagine the horror of being able to get your hair cut or visit the pharmacy right on campus, instead of driving 20 minutes away.

@your81 And as someone else has said, the campus is by Jane and Finch. The security cameras aren't to watch you, Big Brother style, as you buy a "corporatized" taco. They're to try to ensure your safety. As for free speech, walk through Vari Hall. Plenty of students voice their opinions, regardless of whether there's a Popeye's on campus or not.

York has plenty of areas of potential improvement, agreed. But this is just ridiculous. Other than for entertainment value, disregard this video.

@your81 yet regardless of all these camara's for "our protection" there have been a number of laptop thefts and nothing is being done about it ...i personally know of 2 incidents (there are more in Excalibur)

york wastes our hard earned cash on meaningless renovations (like the ugly pieces of wood in vari hall) rather than ensuring that the necessities are met (if you have ever had an administrative problem you know what i mean)

Actually to name a few: U of t is probably more corporate... york just looks that way because it is isolated. How the hell else are they going to survive in the middle of nowhere?. Campus food can only extend so much. And besides, other than the malll the university is not even that corp.

U of Penn. The ivy league school. Damn straight corporate.... right in the middle of philly. Its modern ivy reputation has been build around wharton. Now that is corporate.

Listen guys....to those that are feeling uneasy about York, believe me when I say there is nothing like it! I transferred from UofT to York and it was the best decision of my life...I love my life, my academics are great, and I've made tons of great friendships. Sure, York has many corporate businesses on campus...but what university doesn't? York may just have more than the average, perhaps to accomodate the fact that Keele campus is quite a distance from the business center of Toronto!

I go to York. It's awesome. Sure there's York Lanes that's like a mall but that's just so students on campus have a place to go to in order to purchase books and food.

I've experienced the science faculty at York, it isn't so impressive overall. Many people assume that if you go to York, it will be easy to get a 4.0 gpa, but its not

Um... the nearest restaurants at York were at Keele and Finch. York is on the outskirts of the city, the campus needs York Lanes. You can't compare it to a corporation.

Although the case with Freeman-Maloy was unfair, I doubt the Pepsi vending machines, Popeye's or Blueberry Hill was to blame. I'm pretty sure it had to due more with the biases of the administration and student government.

erm, no it isn't. I work for York... and know that it isn't a fully know it isn't publicly owned. Although it receives money from the government, all Universities are private organizations. It isn't run by the Government, it's run by a Board of Governors. Thats why people pay tuition to go here... if it was public we wouldn't have to pay tuition.
