i had doom for xbox the collectors edition, cool box neat features and the only way to play doom 3 on console, but damn the pc version was so much better, it actually felt like a horror action game, where the o.g xbox felt more like a action game, now a days any modern pc or laptop can handle doom3 so to all those that played doom on xbox check out the pc version
@andree1991 id didnt release anything since this game, unless u count cell phone games and quake wars, quake 4 was only licensed by id, raven made the game, they also made the new wolfenstein.... Rage, however will be the first true id software release since doom 3
i love all of id's games Doom 3 is definetly my favorite but their next game Rage looks fucking killer and i cant wait to get my hands on it looks absolutely amazing
@AshCosgrove fuck are you talking about? 2d sprites. The base of Doom is 3D and introduced a lot of shit. Sectors, sector height variations, much better dynamic lighting. Back in 94', Doom kicked your fucking ass.
Man, i miss Icon's so much, electronic playground. extended play.... Tech TV was awesome. Now we are left with COPS re-runs and crap like cheaters.... Thanks G4
@KrackHead1231 When I pre-ordered it I got a baron of hell figurine. When I actually got the disk It also came with the G4 stuff and interviews with some ID staff, and doom 1 and 2. Definitely didn't regret buying it.
2D games refer to you only being able to walk left or right. Perhaps some jumping up but overall it's all about 2 directions. 3D games are those you can turn and move in any direction. Sure the sprites were 2D but who cares? It's 3D, you can go through a door and turn the corner and walk all the way around the room and come to the same door and walk out.
That's a 3D game at it's absolute simplest. Who cares if it's 2D sprites...it's still a 3D game.
you've got it all wrong. 2D means that of the three dimensions (horizontal, vertical, depth) only two are used.
weather it's Super mario using horizontal & vertical (but no depth) or Doom using horizontal and depth (but no vertical) it's still only 2 of the 3 demisions and there for it's 2D.
1. too much attention to beautiful scenery not enough attention to high paced action, i mean the old doom 2 featured a battle with 30 demon knights and doom 3 the most demon knights you fought were 2 OMG dare to dream
2. its 100 years in the future and the marines are too stupid to tape their flashlights to their guns, as well as a base that has no emergency lighting ????
3. where the gore?? the old doom had demons throwing up blood when you shot gunned them.
John Romero isn't part of id, he left right before Quake III arena was made to start the company Ion Storm. He used the Quake II engine to make a game called Daiakantana or something like that, can't remember the exact name. John Romero and Carmack were best pals. The split happened after Quake II was made, where id got a lot of publicity. The thing was Carmack wanted to make good programs, but Romero wanted an empire. So Romero started his own company, but unfortunatley didn't do as well as id.
He left during the development of the original Quake due to creative differences actually. He wanted to make an in depth Action-RPG, and the guys at id wanted to make another Doom like game. and that was that.
Doom. So awesome that it inspired a game about Chex cereal.

The funny thing is that Doom and Wolfistine weren't 3D.
They are just very clever 2D games.
In mario you could run left and right and go up and down, but there was no depth.
In Doom you go left and right, and you have depth but you don't have height.
You climb stairs to create an illusion of height, but there is never any real 3D calculation going on.

i wish i knew why g4 only has cheaters and cops what the hell does infidelity and criminals have to do with video games and technology
