this shit is slow.. ive been in a stock 08 yaris sedan with 15 inch rims that went 0 - 60 in 6 secs.. nothing but an oil change and chevron tech fuel system cleaner and an alignment.... if i still hung with the guy id get it on youtube
@StatusBaddest you're so funny, how in the world does a stock yaris do 0-60 in 6 seconds? maybe a mr2 turbo can, not a yaris. lol, this is funny as heck! if you're buying a yaris, i bet it isn't for speed. lol, 0-60 in 6 seconds? lol. made my day! i'd smoke you in my mx3 gs stock!
@forkliftninjaz I got a 2007 hatch manual, it does 0-60 in around 8-8.5 stock. Those 10 sec #s are for automatic transmission, I hate idiots who test 0-60 times in an auto it's just stupid.
@StatusBaddest Wtf? LOL, the new Scion FR-S does 0-60 in 6.2, no way a Yaris does 6. I got a manual hatch and it does around 8-8.5, no way the heaver sedan would pull off less than that.
Well 16 seconds is dirt slow. Not to mention not everyone is going to be like "oh let me press the pause butting right now and see what it was"... you're supposed to include that info without us having to take some stupid unnecessary action. Learn how to make a proper vid please.
@justinsn95 16-5=11 Oh and by the way you made yourself sound unbelievably lazy "oh let me press the pause butting right now and see what it was" That would take SO much effort.
I love how so many people are complaining of how you'll have trouble merging into traffic or how it's got unsafe acceleration when it's actually faster than most american cars were in the late 70s thru 90s... and I've had no trouble doing those things in a larger car of similar performance, or of 4-5 seconds slower acceleration...
What I'm saying is the faster the car is at 0-60 and beyond the sensation of speed becomes soooooo much greater, if in a fast enough car that doing full throttle for longer than a few seconds is no longer safe, the world and passing lines go by so fast along with the lateral G's being increased in All Axis, it's another world :D
I remember when my first car, the Daewoo Leganza, was this fast, I honestly thought my 0-60 was 4 seconds.. went to the drag strip and got smoked... I thought a BMW 530i I6 was fast enough. Then got in the 545i V8 and thought that was fast.. before all that I drove a Porsche Carrera S 0-60 4.5 geez damn.. I thought the 0-60 was like 2 seconds :D
@melvin0808 Why bother when there's one at the bottom left of the youtube window? I counted 0:05 at launch and 0:16 at 60mph. If you're really bothered about fractions of a second to 60mph in an economy car, you've got problems.
(And heck, for a small auto that's pretty good, I drive a supposedly sporty hatchback made in 2001 and it just squeaks in under 10s... But given this is posted by "MPGoMatic", why no mention of its economy?)
I own a 4-door hatch and think it's a great little car. It will easily keep up with all traffic in any situation. But if you're ragging on the Yaris for not being a drag car then you're either retarded or you've bought the wrong car. There's only so much you can do with 106 hp.
hey guys stop bitching like a girl about why these guys are mostly using auto trans cars. go to a diffrent channel to find a stardard car not this guyys site .

What will the guys from Toyota Marketing think of next? Probably... 2010 YARIS - Luxury Sedan (tax, tags, wipers and seatbelts included, with approved credit).
a cavalier has a 25% larger engine and its a dog compared to this(I used to have one) now I have a yaris hatchback. If you start in 2 ,then 3, then D its a 1000x faster
11 seconds is the average for most economic cars....so, whats the WOW? My 2007 Accent 1.4 liter makes 20-100 Km/h in 10 secs, so from 0 to 100 Km/h is about the same 11, maybe 1 or 2 secs more, with a smaller engine (0-100 Km/h is more than 0-60 mph, FYI).....Results?, Yaris is NOTHING impressive.
@wtrdogg20 : With the same car shown here, they achieved 50+ mpg at 65 mph over level road. So Yaris *IS* impressive. And has more than adequate power for *any* normal driving.
50mpg? Do you have any idea of what you are saying? hahahahahaha!! C'mon son, get the fuck out of here with that bullshit....Tell me 35mpg I will believe it....but 50?, dude, is it a car, or a motorcycle?? Yaris IS NOT impressive...It just have good fuel economy because the car itself is lightweight and WEAK...you really dont wanna have a very simple but also very expensive bumper crash. After all that scary recall, I dont wanna know what other nasty things Toyota does to keep the 1st position.
BTW, I've been interested in high MPG cars for a long time, but the Yaris (with its odd 29/35 EPA rating) slipped past me until recently when a friend got one. It averages 45 without even trying. I have not doubt about mpgomatic's results.
BTW, why in the world do you think the 1.6 would do better on mpg than the 1.4? Also, you seem obsessed with acceleration. Consumer guide found 0-60 in Yaris to be 1 second *quicker* than in Accent. But below 11s, it makes no difference in the real world.
Why 1.6 is more fuel efficient than 1.4? just think about this: Same car, same chasis, same weight, but a 1.4 engine with less power just Twin Cam, and a 1.6 with more power and Valving Time System, which one makes less effort to move the car?. Imagine one man pushing a huge stone, and 4 guys doing the same with the same stone, who is gonna make less effort moving the stone? You see.
It is basic science. I preffer a durable car, than a lightweight weak car that is 1sec quicker accelerating.
@wtrdogg20: Your grasp of science is faulty with respect to a larger engine taking less effort to move the car. You think that additional power comes for free? No. It comes because the 1.6 can burn more gasoline. *And* results in higher pumping losses. (Just ask if you don't understand why.) Yaris *is* durable according to the statistics. More so than Accent. And quicker. Not sure what you mean by "weak".
Go back to school and study PHYSIC, young boy....Now explain me why Accent 1.6 and 2006 Lancer 1.6 are more fuel efficient than the same models with the smaller engines available in each model (1.4 and 1.3)?. Well, I live in a country where we have way more options to chose from than the NorthAmerican market. Power is generated at specific RPMs, if the 1.6 engine does the same HP at lower RPMs than the 1.4 engine, You got better output with less gas consumed. Simple. Weak=non resistant body.
BTW, if you are talking about one of those tests with super fuel efficient driving nobody will drive like that in real live, My Accent 1.4litres makes 56mpg, and I am sure the 1.6 does it better, considering it makes less effort to move the same car....So, lets be realistic...OK!
I'm not sure what you would consider to be "super-efficient driving" about a steady 65 mpg. mpgomatic has not reviewed the Accent. But of the ones they have, the Yaris is the only one to do so well.
Yes, the crash rating for the Accent is slightly higher. But the difference is nothing to write home about.
I, personally, have not really considered the Accent due to its ho-hum reliability record wrt to Yaris and Fit. But then again, it *is* a Hyundai, so it's not really supposed to be top quality.
You are looking at old Hyundai....Hyundai has better reliability scores than Toyota...just checking the JD Power reports...Hyundai is above Toyota, and behind Porche, Cadillac and Lexus....FYI!
@wtrdogg20 : I'm looking at 2008 which is about the minimum time span in which to get reliable statistics. Hyundai Accent stats are better than average. Yaris' are superlative. BTW, I'd trust Consumer Reports ahead of J.D. Power any day.
@wtrdogg20 : Try not to get so emotional. Else there is no point talking to you. BTW, I *have* had two years of college physics. In fact, 2 years of mechanical engineering before finishing up my CS degree. Do you need me to explain the pumping losses issue to you? If you're not familiar, it is really quite interesting.
LOL! now you are a mechanical engineer, what convenience situation. Whatever, I just told you I am gonna take care of something else. Im a electronic and communications engineer, nothing to hide, and what I know about the engine power and pumping losses is from a friend of mine that is a mechanical engineer and he has a car tuning shop, for track and street racing, you know, turbo and superchargers, no bullshit, he works with engines everyday, I have nothing to make up, I trust him. Good Night.
@wtrdogg20 : Inspired by this "discussion" we took the Yaris sedan on a round trip from OKC to Ft. Smith and back today. Cruise set at 68. Wind negligible. Fill procedure:
1. Fill to very top of filler.
2. Bounce 15 times.
3. Repeat twice.
Result:
393.5miles round trip on 8.97gal = 43.9mpg
Typically, between 65 and 70 it's about 1% per mph. So 65 would probably be 45.2. Not 50. But far beyond the 35 you set as your limit of credibility. So I guess you can either deal with reality... or not.
Well, According with the Consumer Authority in my country, the Accent 1.4 is able to make up to 90km/gl, around 55mpg. You said you tested it, but I have no proof of it, so I'm not in the obligation of trusting it. I do know Yaris has a good mpg, but is not that amazing. I rented a 2009, and made a trip of around 500km, the tank last pritty much the same as my Accent 1.4, and the car ride and steering wheel driving quality wasnt superior to my Accent or other cars I have driven. Power was OK.
BTW, Thanks for thinking about me and spend money in very expensive gas just for a stupid test to poof me something. I never knew such a Sick Fanboy like you,
Thanks. I will take care of something else, get your Yaris, and I will keep my durable and good quality 2007 Hyundai Accent, It has everything a Yaris also has and more! Before buying it, I did a deep research and there were many cars in the list, including the Yaris, I am not a fanboy, I just know where to put my money, Toyota=Overprice
@wtrdogg20 : Rest assured that it was hardly about you. We enjoyed the trip greatly, and the La Huerta restaurant in Ft. Smith turned out to be quite good.
But I fear you are boiling over. Goodbye, and have a nice day.
It's not just about displacement at highway speeds ... gearing and aerodynamics are key. The Yaris has a more slippery drag coefficient then the Accent.
While we haven't tested the Accent yet, it's near the top of the To Do list ... it's primarily a question of availability.
The accent does an amazing job given what it is. My friend just bought one, I couldn't believe how smooth and silent it was for a 13K (CAD with taxes) car.
They updated the interior, giving it a bit more refinement.
Yarises are techier Tercels, they're okay as city cars, but nothing else.
This is a 1.5L DOHC that makes 106HP, and it's 4 speed automatic. My cavalier is a 2.2L 120HP with 130,000 miles on it, and a THREE speed automatic, which makes a huge difference.
A Saab? I know this car isn't fast at all but it has a great gas mileage, it's for those people that want that in a car and a pretty good performance when it needed. But let's be honest, the saab isn't close to the reliability of a Toyota or any japanese car and the parts are really expensive and hard to find.
Why is everyone complaining that the car sucks and it's slow? It's a Yaris...it's not suppose to break any 0-60 records. It's a great car for city and highway driving and that's it. Jesus Christ.
@theemceemurdah then people must stop tuning that shit its for family use and its a girl car. my friends granma driving this i'm ok with that but please stop trying to tune this car. look at the stock 0-60 its a nightmare.
@theemceemurdah yeah, i suppose ur right...i guess i wont add a comment now about how - oh, i cant say what im going to say because it would go against what your saying in ur comment...
@AntDX316 Yes, but in Canada a Yaris sedan moderately loaded (auto, A/C, power windows/entry, etc) starts at 17,715. The Camry hybrid starts at 31,310, nearly 2x the price. It's rated fuel economy is barely better at 41mpg-us to the Yaris 36mpg-us.
So the Camry basically just has comfort and power going for it, you don't pay 2x to save that small difference in gas. I often wish my Yaris had less power (1L engine?) to save gas and price, and it is plenty comfortable enough for my use.
@AntDX316 No, what I'm saying is you don't pay THAT much for a Camry Hybrid because you want efficiency alone. You buy it because you want a Camry but don't want to sacrifice the fuel economy. If you want to save on gas you buy a Prius if you drive in the city a lot or a Jetta TDI if you drive on the highway.
Nobody says "I bought my Camry to save gas, and it is large and comfy too!"
That must be some feat. Most car mags put it's 0-60 time around the mid 9 to low 10 second range. " 7 seconds. Easily." LMAO Sure you didn't mean 7 minutes?
Your Yaris does not do it in 7 seconds. The published time for an E30 M3 is somewhere between 6.7 and 7.0 seconds. Your Yaris is not as quick as an M3.
just think, that for example nissan skyline (new) has cvt, its racing on track. if it has CVT it would pick up speed in any position. because in my country, the traffic is crazy no lane system. i go though traffic and i need instant acceleration. if i use a CVT car its very easy, from my point of view they are fast, but if you are going to fast the fuel economy is not that impressive.
umm the skyline doesn't have a CVT... It has a double clutch transmission similar to VW and Audi's DSG transmission. CVTs are found in every nissan below it.
u are wrong i think lol. the nissan 350 gt which is the infiniti g35 had a 8 speed cvt in it. its just a cvt in maual mode basically. look it up. i think its cvt extroid capability. the skyline is a g35 not a gtr r35 that has a double clutch transmission

wtrdogg20 2 years ago
I'm not sure what you would consider to be "super-efficient driving" about a steady 65 mpg. mpgomatic has not reviewed the Accent. But of the ones they have, the Yaris is the only one to do so well.
Yes, the crash rating for the Accent is slightly higher. But the difference is nothing to write home about.
I, personally, have not really considered the Accent due to its ho-hum reliability record wrt to Yaris and Fit. But then again, it *is* a Hyundai, so it's not really supposed to be top quality.
sbergman27 2 years ago
You are looking at old Hyundai....Hyundai has better reliability scores than Toyota...just checking the JD Power reports...Hyundai is above Toyota, and behind Porche, Cadillac and Lexus....FYI!
wtrdogg20 2 years ago
@wtrdogg20 : I'm looking at 2008 which is about the minimum time span in which to get reliable statistics. Hyundai Accent stats are better than average. Yaris' are superlative. BTW, I'd trust Consumer Reports ahead of J.D. Power any day.
sbergman27 2 years ago
May be you are the hater unwilling to accept the reality, not me....
wtrdogg20 2 years ago
@wtrdogg20 : Try not to get so emotional. Else there is no point talking to you. BTW, I *have* had two years of college physics. In fact, 2 years of mechanical engineering before finishing up my CS degree. Do you need me to explain the pumping losses issue to you? If you're not familiar, it is really quite interesting.
sbergman27 2 years ago
LOL! now you are a mechanical engineer, what convenience situation. Good Night.
wtrdogg20 2 years ago
@wtrdogg20 : Inspired by this "discussion" we took the Yaris sedan on a round trip from OKC to Ft. Smith and back today. Cruise set at 68. Wind negligible. Fill procedure:
1. Fill to very top of filler.
2. Bounce 15 times.
3. Repeat twice.
Result:
393.5miles round trip on 8.97gal = 43.9mpg
Typically, between 65 and 70 it's about 1% per mph. So 65 would probably be 45.2. Not 50. But far beyond the 35 you set as your limit of credibility. So I guess you can either deal with reality... or not.
sbergman27 2 years ago
Well, According with the Consumer Authority in my country, the Accent 1.4 is able to make up to 90km/gl, around 55mpg. You said you tested it, but I have no proof of it, so I'm not in the obligation of trusting it. I do know Yaris has a good mpg, but is not that amazing. I rented a 2009, and made a trip of around 500km, the tank last pritty much the same as my Accent 1.4, and the car ride and steering wheel driving quality wasnt superior to my Accent or other cars I have driven. Power was OK.
wtrdogg20 2 years ago
BTW, Thanks for thinking about me and spend money in very expensive gas just for a stupid test to poof me something. I never knew such a Sick Fanboy like you,
Thanks. I will take care of something else, get your Yaris, and I will keep my durable and good quality 2007 Hyundai Accent, It has everything a Yaris also has and more! Before buying it, I did a deep research and there were many cars in the list, including the Yaris, I am not a fanboy, I just know where to put my money, Toyota=Overprice
wtrdogg20 2 years ago
@wtrdogg20 : Rest assured that it was hardly about you. We enjoyed the trip greatly, and the La Huerta restaurant in Ft. Smith turned out to be quite good.
But I fear you are boiling over. Goodbye, and have a nice day.
-Steve
sbergman27 2 years ago
It's not just about displacement at highway speeds ... gearing and aerodynamics are key. The Yaris has a more slippery drag coefficient then the Accent.
While we haven't tested the Accent yet, it's near the top of the To Do list ... it's primarily a question of availability.
mpgomatic 2 years ago
@mpgomatic : For reference:
Cd = 0.29 which is darn good. (Prius is 0.26)
Tires: 185/60R15
Final drive: 4.24
Top gear: 0.7
This works out to 2521rpm@60mph (which is darn good, as well.)
sbergman27 2 years ago
@mpgomatic : Hmm. My previous post got eaten. For the 2007 Accent:
Cd = 0.33
Tires = 185/65R14
FD = 4.39
Top gear = 0.69
For 2597rpm@60mph
sbergman27 2 years ago
The accent does an amazing job given what it is. My friend just bought one, I couldn't believe how smooth and silent it was for a 13K (CAD with taxes) car.
They updated the interior, giving it a bit more refinement.
Yarises are techier Tercels, they're okay as city cars, but nothing else.

My cavalier could beat this.. I have a video to prove it.
rudolphna54 2 years ago
Cavalier is 2.0 liters, more HP....I can beat it, for sure!.
wtrdogg20 2 years ago
This is a 1.5L DOHC that makes 106HP, and it's 4 speed automatic. My cavalier is a 2.2L 120HP with 130,000 miles on it, and a THREE speed automatic, which makes a huge difference.
rudolphna54 2 years ago
11 seconds! Impressive!! not.
boardskins 2 years ago
it would be better with the 5-speed manual, I think. To me, it doesn't make sense to have such a small car with an automatic transmission.

well why buy this when you could get a used BMW e46 m3 for under 10 grand......!.
what fukin idiots buy this cheap plastic japanese shit when you can get so many great used european cars for half the price........
my freinds subaru's 30,000 mile matinance was like athousand dollars.....
my Saabs matinace for that was a fraction of the cost....
it doesnt make since....
japanese cars fukin suck, my saab pwns them in relaibility..
Howie262 2 years ago
A Saab? I know this car isn't fast at all but it has a great gas mileage, it's for those people that want that in a car and a pretty good performance when it needed. But let's be honest, the saab isn't close to the reliability of a Toyota or any japanese car and the parts are really expensive and hard to find.
nando937 2 years ago
yes i agree i have an 07 sedan 4 door and for the tiny engine it has i got to say its pretty good, and it very good on gas

Why is everyone complaining that the car sucks and it's slow? It's a Yaris...it's not suppose to break any 0-60 records. It's a great car for city and highway driving and that's it. Jesus Christ.
theemceemurdah 2 years ago 48
@theemceemurdah then people must stop tuning that shit its for family use and its a girl car. my friends granma driving this i'm ok with that but please stop trying to tune this car. look at the stock 0-60 its a nightmare.

@theemceemurdah Well why make a 0-60 video for a car with a mediocre 0-60?
netster007z 1 year ago
@theemceemurdah
Alot of American folk believe all cars should have huge engines with XX amount of liters and all be sub 5seconds.
Fuel is also i fraction of cost that it is hear in the UK.

@theemceemurdah Thank you, and people like me would like to save gas. It doesn't matter how fast I get there.
ScenicMirages 1 year ago
@theemceemurdah Not talking about the Porsche 918.. but Hybrids faster than this and bigger and eats less gas.. I'm talking Camry Hybrid
AntDX316 11 months ago
@AntDX316 Yes, but in Canada a Yaris sedan moderately loaded (auto, A/C, power windows/entry, etc) starts at 17,715. The Camry hybrid starts at 31,310, nearly 2x the price. It's rated fuel economy is barely better at 41mpg-us to the Yaris 36mpg-us.
So the Camry basically just has comfort and power going for it, you don't pay 2x to save that small difference in gas. I often wish my Yaris had less power (1L engine?) to save gas and price, and it is plenty comfortable enough for my use.
creepynut 9 months ago
@creepynut yeah, for more efficiency u gotta pay up
AntDX316 9 months ago
@AntDX316 No, what I'm saying is you don't pay THAT much for a Camry Hybrid because you want efficiency alone. You buy it because you want a Camry but don't want to sacrifice the fuel economy. If you want to save on gas you buy a Prius if you drive in the city a lot or a Jetta TDI if you drive on the highway.
Nobody says "I bought my Camry to save gas, and it is large and comfy too!"
creepynut 9 months ago
@creepynut well, the whole idea to buy a Camry hybrid is to save gas and be large and comfy too

Your Yaris is not as quick as an M3.

just think, that for example nissan skyline (new) has cvt, its racing on track. if it has CVT it would pick up speed in any position. because in my country, the traffic is crazy no lane system. i go though traffic and i need instant acceleration. if i use a CVT car its very easy, from my point of view they are fast, but if you are going to fast the fuel economy is not that impressive.
tven99 2 years ago
umm the skyline doesn't have a CVT... It has a double clutch transmission similar to VW and Audi's DSG transmission. CVTs are found in every nissan below it.
hondafan16 2 years ago 3
u are wrong i think lol. the nissan 350 gt which is the infiniti g35 had a 8 speed cvt in it. its just a cvt in maual mode basically. look it up. i think its cvt extroid capability. the skyline is a g35 not a gtr r35 that has a double clutch transmission
occckid123 2 years ago
it would be great if it had a CVT transmission.
i think it would be better if sports cars had CVT transmission.
just my opinion
tven99 2 years ago
gross, CVTs in sports cars? That would suck balls. CVTs maybe great for fuel economy, but for performance....
