  • Seriously folks...does it get any better than this? Two iconic legends, Coltrane, and Morgan together on one of the greatest recordings in history. Just my opinion of course, but talk about swing!!! Thanks for the amazing post!!!

  • This smooth jazz

  • I love Curtis Fuller, wrong notes and all.

  • All of the solos in this song are perfect. God damn I love me some Coltrane and Lee Morgan!

  • Call me lester Corncrake but i like this sheet

  • Why are my ears full of jizz?

  • @Scottcreek942 interestingly enough there are several well documented accounts saying that jazz does actually stem from the word jizz

  • Beautiful, just beautiful....

  • Nice :-)

  • Lee Morgan is bopping off his rocker here!

  • AKFG?

  • Comment removed

  • it just sounds so smooth doesn't it?

  • In my 20s when I started to like jazz I went to the record store and I found this cd. The only reason why I bought it was because of the name, Coltrane and the photograph on the sleeve; but when I went back home and I listen to it, I was shock ; instantly it became one of my favorite albums. And today, after more than 20 years, is my favorite Blue Train version and the sound of Lee Morgan's trumpet (minute 3:25) still hits me and hypnotizes me!!!

  • 1:44am. Still good.

  • thank you. this has been added to our playlists here and on facebook.

  • Denzel Washington looks a lot like John.

  • My neighbours have been listening to this all day long... Whether they like it or not!

  • yeah forever jazz

  • so hard to understabd coltane...so easy to be addicted to him

  • My favorite blues solo. Period.

  • BADBADNOTGOOD

  • Jazz is the worst music in your world,as you inhabit a world of cripple-minded numbskulls.

  • L'accord à 10:20 me tue à tout les coups

  • @MrSeniorLoveDaddy J'accepte !

  • John Coltrane is BY FAR my FAVORITE Jazz Musician!!!!

  • This comment doesn't necessarily relate to Coltrane, but I noticed 23 people disliked this. I am a little confused as to why. Then, I thought of the heartbreak that a hardcore Nickelback fan(or another bore band) would feel looking up his personal anthem and seeing that a whole lot of people don't feel the same way.

  • @lucasfreefoot Hahaha! That's the funniest damn thing I've heard in ages...! Nice one

  • @lucasfreefoot lold

  • Asian Kung-fu Generation - Blue train :)

  • @Szili0 Which has no resemblance to the John Coltrane's Blue Train.

  • Stop being so hipster about this. I happen to love both Coltrane and Gaga. If you bothered to look into her more, you'd see how intelligent, passionate, and talented she is. You don't have to like her music, but to say she doesn't have talent, or passion, or intelligence, is very ignorant.

  • @dannybrenful Thank god someone who agrees! I thought I was alone on this.

  • Lee Morgan was 19 years old when he recorded this! 19!!!

  • Just be quiet and listen.

  • Un virtuose de l'instrument et un thème original, à écouter en boucle .

  • Amazing song! Telio!

  • To jonathanguitar27: dear Jonathan, you used a word that fits reality perfectly when talking about Lady Gaga and the kind; you said "we'll never have another Coltrane or Miles because NOBODY BELIEVES IN music. That word, "believe in " is crucial. Nobody really has a PASSION for music just to complement what you said. "Believe", yeah, I drink to that word; I think there's something of the sacred in music, you must have faith in what you do, not only count the money, although everybody needs it.

  • @MrAllright2

There are still plenty of musicians that play with full passion, man.

  • I have never even seen weed in my life, and whenever I am listening to jazz or describing jazz, people say I look and sound like I've been smoking a blunt.

Such is the power of this music that it has the effects of narcotics.

  • @AuroraCelest

it's because much of it was played and composed by addicts, this hardly helped their lives but definitely helped the music

  • @BayanTheOne WTF are you talking about?

it's been discerned time and time again that the effects of drugs debilitates anything you do.So actually,if all these musicians would have stayed clean they would have been even MORE productive than they were anyway.

What do junkies and crackheads do nowadays?

Shoot, rob and scrounge themselves to death.Totally destructive, not at all creative.

  • @lousehr

first learn some manners, internet worm

next, wtf are YOU talking about? as if it's only NOWADAYS that junkies behave antisocially and in the past they all were jazz musicians LOL

junkies don't have the talent and/or skills no matter what time period they're living in, that's why they're not creative

  • @lousehr ok, youre a bit asinine. but you can have your opinion.

  • Dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmn

  • For some reason, in this version of the song, all of the instruments are panned to the middle. Totally different on itunes.

  • The dislike bar is like a ninja, its there but you can't see it

  • simply....uuu yeahhhh!

  • Cant go listen to any song on YouTube without seeing someone moaning about Lada Gaga or Justin Bieber. I love Hip-Hop but stumbled across this song because Lupe Fiasco covered one of John Coltrane songs. Now I love it. Stop moaning about all the music you dont like and start enjoying the music you do like.

  • @UndrGrnd4life364 Damn Right If They don't Like The Music Don't Listen And stop posting on other videos and just Listen the Music Stop Bitching And Moaning and enjoy the music

  • @UndrGrnd4life364 aren't you, essentially, moaning about lady gaga and justin bieber?

  • @UndrGrnd4life364 Yeah, all music is beautiful.

  • @UndrGrnd4life364 that's a good way of thinking about it...

  • u lookin at me bitch?

  • GENIUS.......................................

  • There's no music like Jazz.

    NONE

    .

    .

    .

    .

  • ya there is its called hiphop/rap

  • i just love the way this song starts its amazing

  • 2 a.m : perfect time for jazz !

  • @Anto194 true, so true

  • @Anto194

2:53 pm: also a perfect time for Jazz haha

  • @Anto194 ha i gues 4 a.m. it's a nice hour too

  • @Anto194 What are you talking about? Anytime's a perfect time for jazz :D

  • I have been listening to this on the way to work, in my car on breaks, on the way home, and when I get home. Hot new track that came out 54 years ago... Beautiful!!!

  • whenever I read jazz critics spew, I think of Ray's sitter in Jerry Maguire.......my 4 year old grand daughter is spinning in circles and bobbbing up and down listening to John Coltrane. I think she likes his music.

  • she is on her way isn't she? next thing you know she'll be hanging with jay-z

  • underlying every bit of jazz criticism is the notion that black males are better at music than are whites straight out of city college 1936-2006 nothing has changed and also country artists are stupid and racist because they are white except for taylor swift

  • @elvispresley718 taylor swift is a whore

  • @elvispresley718 REALLY??? Did you ever listen to George Garzone?

  • @elvispresley718 You came to this video just to complain about supposed reverse-racism?Especially with the name "elvis presley"? LMAO , are you jealous?

  • @BlacknesUnforgivable when john coltrane is always the greatest in new york city and athe beatles suck! fuck you!

  • I made a hiphop instrumental sampling this please listen , much appreicated,

    great original song !

    youtube.com/watch?v=5CyWuK90sPI&feature=related

  • The harmony at 0.28 kills me everytime.

  • This song is not classy

    Classy is this song...

  • Lee Morgan at around 04:54 shows everyone how it's done!!!

  • that one note that they hit when the harmony kicks in is like the sun rise.... i swear

  • @smoothmiles24 coltrane, davis, monk = my heroes!

  • Dislikes must be because they saw the terrible ad and thought that this was Coltrane. Stupid kids.

  • soooooo PURE!!! one of my faves by 'Trane. Thanks for posting. God bless

  • West Liberty Tri-state Select Honor Jazz Ensemble

  • Such an amazing tone !

  • When I heard that intro, I stopped listening to all other music.

  • They should make a movie about John Coltrane like they did about Charlie Parker and the main acter should be of corse Denzel Washington because he looks like John a lil bit :)

  • @arijanbejtulahi I was thinking the exact same thing!! lol

  • Happy Birthday JC - 89.9 FM WKCR Columbia Univ NYC

  • 1957, when music was about the music, not the money.

  • @DPsk8er96 well said my man well said

  • modern music is going back to jazz. ask thom yorke. it will be resurrected through sampling and frontier electronic based hip hop... you shall see. for now we lay just beyond the pinnacle of the top of the distribution of terrible music throughout the years. Thirty years from now we will hear something beyond our current capacity to comprehend. And that too shall pass.

  • can you elaborate on thom york?

  • Comment removed

  • To hate this song is to hate genius.

  • Words can hardly describe the greatness I'm hearing.

  • This is ...

No word yet exists to describe how epic this is

  • YEP THAT'S TRANE.

  • bravo lee!

  • Jazz is the music of the future. Nobody's really understood it really. Yeah, carry on listening to Lady Gaga (funny it means "really stupid" in French "Gaga") and you'll get as stupid as people of power want you to be. It's a music that has evolved too fast. A music of its time therefore! Coltrane has such a personal sound; impossible to imitate just like the greats's.

  • @MrAllright2 It's funny how everyone makes fun of Lady Gaga while great guitar players like Jeff Beck are covering HER songs. I can't even imagine how honorable that must be. She's not the best songwriter, sure. But she's a very talented overall musicians. Not great, but good.

  • @jonahtran1 Jeff Beck will do anything to get popular support.

Gaga is for braindead trolls like you. It's not music at all,and I know half of the guys who play in her band and THEY know they are just being pop whores and getting the money and running with it.

  • @lousehr That's absurd. He's never done something to get popular support. In fact he's one of the most private musicians I've ever heard of. He doesn't get a lot of commercial success, what would he gain from covering a Lady Gaga song other than the fact that he likes her music. And yeah. You know her band. I believe that. If you look at something other than her trashy, whore music, her rock/techno stuff is actually pretty good. Like it said, not great. But good.

  • @jonahtran1 he likes her music maybe he just wants to hit the skanakywhite girl!!

  • @elvispresley718 ..... or maybe he just likes her music.

  • @MrAllright2 i 100% agree weve had 100 lady gagas and 100 more are on the horizon but we will never have another miles or coltrane or blakey or core or hancock because (almost) nobody believes in music anymore

  • @jonathanguitar27 *corea

  • @MrAllright2 Typed a lot to say very little.

  • @MrAllright2 Jazz is the worst music ever.

  • Funky music

  • Ah...yes...the velocity and virtue of the swing.

  • simply superb,, the trumpet awww genius,,,

  • This is sooooo good. One of my faves by Coltrane for sure!

  • @Coleunodos If I were them, I wouldn't be embarressed, I'd just be happy SOMEBODY could do this

  • This is real music!

  • 20 people took the red bus.

  • my people are bless, i love my culture we are a a wonder to this world that need to be understand, but never will because,JUST BECAUES....

  • Increíble, magistral clase. Hay 20 capullos que no tienen ni idea de música y esuchan a lady gaga XDDD

  • jesus christ how fast is coltrane playing!!!

  • @henniebogan1 Fast AND tasteful!

  • This reminds me of Vehicle

  • omg love it :D

  • All of a sudden I love jazz...and I used to lkisten to Heavy Metal...wow Love this!!!!

  • i mean why even listen to this, if your going to dislike it?!

  • 20 estann .l.

  • I play tenor sax, and for the longest time I thought it was a lame instrument (this is in grade 7, a long time ago) until I heard some of John Coltranes work. Now I love it! John Coltrane is a huge inspiration to all saxophone players worldwide!

  • I am a visual person. A photographer.I wish my genes were musically inclined but they are not.

But this rendition speaks to me. Guy had some gusto. And all time favorite of mine.

  • simply, great music

  • 20 people got thrown under the blue train. The rest of us 2,498 people rode off into the sunset blasting solos all night aboard the blue train

  • that was nasty!

  • why... why dont you like it ? explain... please somebody... why ?

  • It's so chaotic yet makes so much sense.

  • I love jazz, so don't get me wrong when i say i can completely understand when someone says they don't like this. its an acquired taste, and isn't for everyone. I hated it when i first heard it. Lets face it, for every style of music there are going to be people who don't like it. Im sure theres a style of music you don't like. I don't see why people can't understand this, and get on with their lives

  • @DayleKT There needs to be more people with your view in the world.

  • @DayleKT yeah I mean I liked it the first time I heard it but I'm a classically trained cellist. It's hard to digest this music if you haven't been prepared for it somehow.

  • le jazz c'est ma vie!!!!! la musique de coltrane ma apportée beaucoup j'ai achetée ce disque a l'age de 19 ans maintenant j'ai 22ans j'adore toujours!!!!

  • Calm yourself for forgiveness is divine. Being illiterate is not a sin . It's possible

they meant *dis I like*!? "Know Off Fence", enjoy . LOL =>Stay Frosty !

  • How in the world does this get a "dislike"?

  • @beckjam56 Forget that fool. Anybody with a brain and 2 ears can hear just how funky this song is. From the intro with the call and response with the piano and horns to the player's solos this is incredible imaginative and creative. As someone who's learning how to play jazz, this is a clinic. The beginning musical motif (the head) to the vamp that Coltrane and him band is playing over is so complex it is simple. Props to people that got good things to say about this tune

  • On a personal interview, john coltrane stated that this was his favorite album..and you could see why!!!

  • i will try to find who could equal this kind of jazzz. this is great.

  • Lee Morgan is the best on trumpet, my favorite on trumpet even over Miles Davis he sounds like a buble bee you go Lee. And my boy on bass Paul Chambers from my home town Detroit!!!

  • I love jazz. John Coltrane is a giant of jazz!!!!! The best on tenor sax.

  • This is what you think of when someone says "jazz". much better than this what they call "modern jazz"!!

  • Great jazz <3

  • Very cool.

  • I only watched this because of mighty boosh

  • @Zagexi Me too. Though I found the Thomas the Tank Engine theme first.

  • @Zagexi me too lololol

  • 4:54 Lee Morgan. Soul.

  • i wish he was still alive so i could meet him, hes my musical hero

  • i have listned to this song since i was born, its stll my favorite

  • Man, I wanna dance. John Coltrane, you're divine.

  • @ajdrags Hahahhaha you so gay cant believe u actually said that

  • @DanFindling So my apparent lack of understanding and/or appreciation for a particular genre of music has in some way indicated to you my sexuality? Your methods seem both extraordinary and unorthodox, almost as though they were based on any sort of merit

  • eargasm

  • Makes me feel like Nerdfighting... :)

  • Wonderful.TY sowhat for posting.

  • i think that 19 people dont know what is good music...

  • @MrCarlitostheone No one cares?... Go away.
