Seriously folks...does it get any better than this? Two iconic legends, Coltrane, and Morgan together on one of the greatest recordings in history. Just my opinion of course, but talk about swing!!! Thanks for the amazing post!!!
In my 20s when I started to like jazz I went to the record store and I found this cd. The only reason why I bought it was because of the name, Coltrane and the photograph on the sleeve; but when I went back home and I listen to it, I was shock ; instantly it became one of my favorite albums. And today, after more than 20 years, is my favorite Blue Train version and the sound of Lee Morgan's trumpet (minute 3:25) still hits me and hypnotizes me!!!
This comment doesn't necessarily relate to Coltrane, but I noticed 23 people disliked this. I am a little confused as to why. Then, I thought of the heartbreak that a hardcore Nickelback fan(or another bore band) would feel looking up his personal anthem and seeing that a whole lot of people don't feel the same way.
Stop being so hipster about this. I happen to love both Coltrane and Gaga. If you bothered to look into her more, you'd see how intelligent, passionate, and talented she is. You don't have to like her music, but to say she doesn't have talent, or passion, or intelligence, is very ignorant.
To jonathanguitar27: dear Jonathan, you used a word that fits reality perfectly when talking about Lady Gaga and the kind; you said "we'll never have another Coltrane or Miles because NOBODY BELIEVES IN music. That word, "believe in " is crucial. Nobody really has a PASSION for music just to complement what you said. "Believe", yeah, I drink to that word; I think there's something of the sacred in music, you must have faith in what you do, not only count the money, although everybody needs it.
I have never even seen weed in my life, and whenever I am listening to jazz or describing jazz, people say I look and sound like I've been smoking a blunt.
Such is the power of this music that it has the effects of narcotics.
it's been discerned time and time again that the effects of drugs debilitates anything you do.So actually,if all these musicians would have stayed clean they would have been even MORE productive than they were anyway.
What do junkies and crackheads do nowadays?

whenever I read jazz critics spew, I think of Ray's sitter in Jerry Maguire.......my 4 year old grand daughter is spinning in circles and bobbbing up and down listening to John Coltrane. I think she likes his music.
underlying every bit of jazz criticism is the notion that black males are better at music than are whites straight out of city college 1936-2006 nothing has changed and also country artists are stupid and racist because they are white except for taylor swift
@elvispresley718 You came to this video just to complain about supposed reverse-racism?Especially with the name "elvis presley"? LMAO , are you jealous?
They should make a movie about John Coltrane like they did about Charlie Parker and the main acter should be of corse Denzel Washington because he looks like John a lil bit :)
