  • I have to say, of my four years in the music program in my school district, you are probably one of the best Jr. High trombonists I've heard! The only tip I may have, which I may be totally off because of video quality, is to open your jaw a bit when you play. That will give you a rounder, deeper sound (I try imagine a ping pong ball in my mouth to judge how wide to open, as weird as that sounds). With time your lungs will develop and you'll be able to support your sound. Future ahead of you! -J

  • For her age she is quite good. Just keep an open sound and I guarantee you'll sound even better.

  • From what i hear she needs to open her teeth it takes time but it makes the sound alot better i could be wrong but still

  • good accuracy but shes flat. maybe a bit more practice holding out long low b flats and a's...

  • Trombose Solo Ensemble 2011

  • at my first solo i somehow got distenguished ( highest rating ) i personally think i did bad i guess i didnt but this was very good :)

  • How can I get the full song that in the beginning of this video. help me please :(

  • @CadenzaTB it is the carnival of venice.. everybody knows this song.

  • @magarion I mean the version played by a brass quintet like in this video. I already have the orchestra version recorded by Wynton Marsalis. I guess version that in this clip played by canadian brass. Not sure. :(

  • For a 7th grader this is outrageously good.

  • estoy enamorado.....

  • very ugly!

  • @Airbus563 Ugly? Who the hell are you to judge? She's a child and need some coaching and with proper instruction and practice, she'll do just fine. A trombone is a temperamental intstrument and need YEARS to master.

    What an inappropriate remark.

  • I'm and 8th grader and have been playing trombone for 3 years in the Kawananakoa Band but I think its not really the cold, it's more of her squeezing her lips together so much that her lips can't vibrate. To help this she should try lowering the jaw and open up a little more. Also she should practice developing lip muscle for better endurance and hit the right notes. The lip muscle will also help the lip vibrate better. Air alone can't fix the problem if you don't have enough muscle.

  • U should open your mouth more

  • FLAT FLAT FLAT OH MY GOD CAN YOU SAY FLAT?!?! But better than I am when I have a cold, and it's only her second year.. it's alright :)

  • Good job!! Ive been playing for four years. You sound SO GOOD! Yeaa trombone!! (:

  • @thetarrbabyx Yes, she's very good at centering the notes

  • Considering her condition, I'd say she did pretty good, technically. I don't know if it is because of her cold or something, but her musicality definitely could improve.

  • @PatentClerk For two years and her age, she's doing great. She just needs to open her teeth further apart and that tone goes away quickly. It's an air flow thing.

  • better then i was at 2 years!! work on opening your jaw so your sound doesnt sound so much like a squeaky stair step. or it could be the quality of this...:) but you hit the notes very well. sister, im the only girl trombone of about 8 at our school. ;) obviously we can kick those guys ass.

  • Great job! But the beginning was incredibly deceiving... I was blown away until I realized that wasn't her playing :)

  • Good for her. Keep plugging away and always love what you do!

  • congratulations! lovely performance!

  • she'd be better if she would work on long tones.

  • im better and im serious but she is very good

  • good for ur age ?

  • You don´t feel the musik, you just play the notes you see.. you must make this notes to your owne!

  • @disudas She's in seventh grade bro.. Chill.

  • She has potential to be great

  • sh definetly sounds better than the trombone players in my band class no bout about that lol my band trombones still can't play mary had a little lamb...yep..true story..

  • MORE AIR.

  • HERMOSISISISISISISISIMAAAAA...!!!

  • OPEN UPP! Just work on your sound and you should be fantastic!

  • Feel what you play, let the music play you in the head. Greetings sends Christmas and New Year

  • is great!!

  • practise practise pracitise practice practice practice

  • She should be the featured soloist by grade 12.

  • @Nabokov50

I was utter crap my Freshman year.

By the beginning of my Junior year I was a jazz soloist and composed my own arrangements.

    Then I quit.

  • @noonedude101 Your comment made me laugh.

  • BRASS KICKS BUTT!

  • :3

  • carnivale de venezia lol im mexicano but i live in italia for right now (my dad's military)

  • finally another girl trombone player who actually is good :) no affense other ppls

  • what is the name of the song at the beginning of the video?

    please tell me!

    Thank you!

  • @lucasmarcolino32 carneval de venice ;-)

  • Sounds like she needs to move up to a larger trombone - probably with a C key. She's definitely ready for that. The larger trombone smooths out the tone a lot and gives it a warmer sound. You should also try teaching her double tongue for those semi accented triplets and 8th note runs

  • @noonedude101 a lot of people believe a large trombone smoothens out the tone, honestly you can get a great tone out of a pea shooter, just as good as any larger horn, larger horns require more work and more air support, they don't just magically smoothen out the tone...

  • @tr0mpwned True, true. I think the whole deal with it is that the larger volume of air being pushed forces a wider embouchure and naturally the air smooths itself through the wider opening - so there is less fine lip control involved. I play my larger horn when I have to go for tone quality and accuracy (on a lead part - nearly always) but when I play jazz I use either my smaller mouth piece or smaller horn

  • Good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's amazing for a second year student

  • aww she's sweet :D

  • I am a former trombone player myself and earned a degree in music education, and I assure everyone this is bordering on miraculous for a 2nd year trombone player! I can only assume that you have other musical training (perhaps piano or guitar), as your rhythmic and tonal confidence is REALLY REALLY high for such a short life with what I've grown to consider somewhat of a clumsy instrument. BRAVO of the highest order all around!!!! Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!

  • Congratulations!

  • Even though i had better tone than she does, she was way better than i was in the 7th grade. Keep it up (: lol

  • For her age, Anya is quite the exceptional player. As a fellow trombonist, I'll definitely follow her progress.

  • Wonderful playing Anya, for someone of your age! I would work a little more on tone and articulation, and the tuning in the lower register, but otherwise, very good for your age!

  • shes good i play trumpet/ trubone and i have to play music like this all she needs is to bow harder and raise her trumbone

  • Better than me when i was that age... By a lot.

  • Nice

  • Great job to you Anya! As a fellow trombone myself, I liked the amount of progress, especially for the 7th grade. Just a little tip: to help with tone, work with the Remmington half-tone, full-tone with BIG breaths and keep the throat open! A clinician I had recently for a concert band festival spent 20 minutes on our breathing techniques, having us say "HALP" (not help). Try this, it will help!

    Awesome job!
