@linorf - no because the record companies and agents are afraid of anything going wrong which could affect sales. Unless the "something going wrong" is staged of course, for publicity purposes.
was reading marc spritz's book on bowie and it referenced this interview, summin about bolan lookin like a puffed up pixie or summin like that, true he had lost some of his early 70's edge, not quite as bad as i was expecting though
Aw, so sweet and polite. And he was a real risk-taker in fashion as well as in music, I can't imagine anyone wearing the clothes he wore and looking as good in them.
fuck all of you guys laughing marc bolan was a musical genius, amazing both lyrically and musically. soo he liked to dress differently most people did in the early seventies. so fuck you for not understanding. i love marc bolan :)
Marc Bolan woke England up with his music at a time when rock was becoming jurassic. Fact is Bowie idolized him in his own way, and if imitation is the highest form of flattery Mr. Jones certainly paid him such.
Marc, for all the love he continues to get, is highly underrated for all he's done for rock and roll.
@putdownan8dude You wrote two years ago "not many rock stars of his caliber would be so polite and kind to a nerdy kid's tv show host. much less even show up at all" Some close friends said in interviews that MB had a nasty dark other side you do not want to meet. With other words...how people appear on tv or in public doesn't say how they are in real. No matter how kind and lovely (and nasty)someone appears to be, one should be carefull with a judgement..But I agree he is very polite and kind
I think the other guy's clothes are extraordinarily horrible - Marc's outfit looks cool in comparison, although admittedly it was probably quite outrageous in those days. I don't know who chose his outfits, but he wore the clothes that suited his personality.
They both look like they're wearing costumes, but Marc actually looks like he knows what he's wearing. I love when he wears the tight pants with mary janes...too bad we really don't get to see his bottom half.
I love this clip. The host seems like such a sweet, earnest guy who is surprisingly unfazed by the uber cool Marc. They're both charming...but in much different ways.
if you dont like Bolan then why even post? Sure some of his music was abit more pop orientated the Bowie's but he virtually started glam rock singlehandedly and he does deserve credit.
try being objective and admitting the man had talent even if his music wasnt quite your cup of tea.
The interviewer looks like Richard Whitely's ghost! Marc used to mention the "David Niven film" in every interview, but I don't think it was for real! Marc used to wind the media up all the time, he was a great showman!
It's so bittersweet seeing all this footage that we Yanks never got to see while Marc was alive. Such an amazing artist and star (not that many who are both nowadays) and he is really missed even this far down the road. Thank you so much for sharing the footage.
Not lying as such, Marc was a fantasist and enjoyed winding up tv and press people as he always gave them something interesting to listen too. He could talk a load of bullshit but it was all part and parcel of being a 'star' and he was the brightest star ever!
I think it's because for Marc he lived and breathed the music. It was all about the music and his love of the music. And he had true talent. Who nowadays has true talent, a real gift? All anyone is in it for anymore is money and getting laid, nothing more. Just a bunch of pretty faces with empty heads. And a bunch of people with empty heads who buy their cd's and other crap are what keeps them in business.
I met Marc a few days after this TV show was recorded - It was at 'The Palace Lido' gig on 'The isle Of Mann' and - he was still wearing the same clothes! - RIP Marc x x - Robbie - Liverpool UK
I met him few days just after this interview in 1975 on The 'Isle Of Mann' where he was performing a gig in the 'Palace Lido' - he still had the same clothes on what hes wearing in this TV interview! (Ive got the pics to prove)!! RIP Marc x x - Robbie - Liverpool UK
The guy asking the questions is Steve Merike. He was the first ever DJ on Pennine Radio in 1975, which is now of course the Pulse. If I remember right am sure he once stood in for Tony Blackburn on Radio 1 in the early 70s for a few months. Worked all over place Trent, Picadilly etc..
that nerdy show host is one of my college tutors. He's awesome.

I like how the first thing he says about travelling is that he doesn't like airplanes... while it appears he's wearing a pretty glam airplane pin.
Like the thing about cars and driving, I guess.
