  • 2:06 ..... O_o

  • 3:10 RUN HORSIE RUN!!!

  • damn owl...0:20-0:30

  • How do you know if this movie was banned

  • 1958?! Um...ti was made in 1949 withthe wind and the wellowes.

  • This was my first horror movie, and i was SO scared of ir,i was really young and it really gave me nightmare's :DD

  • banned? kids these days are spineless. a little headless horseman would do 'em good.

  • i absolutely adore this movie!

  • That was weird!

  • This is not banned and available on DVD right now. Saying it is 'banned' is inaccurate.

  • I wonder why this was banned. I don't see any problem that catches attention. My only guess is the whole superstition and Crane's imaginary daydream about Katrina.

  • @taurusgirl65 Maybe the machete was thought to be inappropriately/excessively violent and scary for children. I know this scene bothered me a lot as a child when this film was shown in school.

  • How did this not scare the living bajesus out of kids

  • ... is my response to this movie.

  • Oh my god that poor horse...

  • I watched this when i was a kid but i wanted to see again because nostalgia critic said the hero was a jerk and i wanted to confirm this... he was right...

  • NC was right: Ichabod is actually kind of a dick when you think about it. look for example at how he decides to eat dinner at that boy's house instead of punishing him, so that he would look forgiving and get a free meal at the same time. or how he really only thinks of the girl as a key to get all of her fortune. he truly is one of those people who is very intelligent and knows how to play a situation so it works out to his advantage while still looking innocent and pure. hes an evil genious!XD

  • @goldieboylover986 He's a bastard...no, he's brilliant...

    ...HE'S A BRILLIANT BASTARD!

  • Thumb up if Nostalgia Critic sent you here.

  • That was just awesome. Thanks for posting.

  • wait so the big jerk gets the girl?. that's kinda...wrong

  • @PrpleChan5 I used to think the same thing about this movie, but it's really not so cut-and-dry. Brom is actually not that bad of a guy. He's a prankster and immature, sure, but he seems pretty chummy with everyone in the town. He does intimidate the other single males into leaving Katrina alone, but that's really just the "alpha male" mentality. It also didn't seem like Katrina cared for Ichabod anyway, other than to make Brom jealous. As for why she did this, it's still pretty unclear.

  • @MyFairXTan that's kinda mean for katrina to play with Ichabob's heart like that.poor fellow

  • I just went from part 3 to this and Youtube's layout changed...I don't even :o

  • ....i remember kakking myself when I first watched this, but I LOVED the HH!

  • Thank you, for posting this! This cartoon scared me as a kid. I first watched this on The Wonderful World of Disney (on the NBC network in the early 1960s). Where I grew up, there were trees growing over the rural roads in the hollows. In autumn, it looked even creepier. Disney certainly knew how to serve up the scaries! This is one of my favorite animated stories. Bing Crosby's voice and singing were great!

  • ....Also the date of 1958 is wrong...the film came out in 1949!!!

  • I do not see Disney the company banning their own movies, what is so bad with this?

  • notice... Ichabod never spoke once lol

  • @pocket0987654321 he does laugh really scary though

  • the horse is taking a nap thats funny

  • 2:05 Creepy

  • Rules. Remember this from being a kid, circa late 1970s early 1980s. Disney is a retard for not still showing this. rules. Bing = 100% voice.

  • mmm feels like halloween now! thank you for uploading

  • Memories oh so missed. :(

  • @1:53: creepiest. laugh. EVER.

  • his laugh is fcking creepy

  • that was excellent!

  • i was scared as a kid.. im now 18 and shitting my pants :(

  • One of the most iconic images in Disney history or Halloween cartoons right here 5:02 the flaming pumpkin! Excellent , one of the most memorable parts of the movie.

  • 1:37 that must smell so good

  • wait i dont get it why is it banned?

  • BEWARE OF THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN!!!!

  • Scary, Huh?

  • FTW

  • OMG!

  • LOL

  • BOO!!!!

  • Happy Halloween!!!!

  • Poor Icahbod

  • that is strange the sound is missing

  • When I was little I used to hate how the narrator would say "man I'm gettin out of here" at the end. It just freaked me out especially after seeing all that headless hourseman stuff

  • 02:05-02:08

    Holy Shit thats creepy!

  • I remember watching this at 20:30pm in my house as 10 year old kid.Nothing scared me more than this as a child.Specially those graves with the spider webs and the fog covering the area. You have to eb insane to travel home thro that forest at those hours.

  • His laugh is probably the creepiest part.

  • cool

  • @cstoczyn what does ftw mean

  • @mistercarrot123 FTW = For The Win

  • This is a great cartoon.

  • @sandleford La leyenda de Sleepy Hollow

  • Comment removed

  • como se llama esta ´película pero en latino?

  • Does anybody know what the crickets are saying at the begginning? I can't really tell.

  • 4:23

That part always freaked me OUT as a kid.

  • Funny thing, when I was a kid I thought the Headless Hessian was fucking awesome.

  • Isn't there like a nickname or something for the headless horseman's laugh? I can't quite find the right word to describe it...

  • DAMN is the Headless Horseman Creepy!

  • You know that laugh of the Headless Horsemen remind me of a other movie. I just can't put my finger on it yet, but when I get the moive, I'll tell you. Maybe.

  • It was really funny to me, I laugh at the way they did the Headless Horsemen chase. Also it was really funny the way Icabin was really scared of the Headless Horsemen laugh. You got to love that evil laugh. It make that scene scary.

  • this movie scared the crap out of me when I was young

  • The only disney movie that can actually be considered scary is The Black Cauldron which almost caused Disney to go bankrupt due it's poor reception, when in reality it is probably one of the best disney movies made. I would bet that is the reason they never went after the horror market. Which really is to bad, I would have loved to see all of the sequels of The Black Cauldron.

  • They use the wind through the reeds to create a spooky effect where as in the little mermaid they used it to sound romantic

    sorry, just a ramdom observation

  • Now i remember this! I remember this used to creep me the hell out when i was a kid lol.

  • Seriously, the headless horseman turned around to look behind him. : O

  • damn the evil laugh!

  • Oh man that laugh....2:25

  • I remember this use to be on CBC around Halloween back in the day, haven't seen it in YEARS. The banned thing may be reason.

  • Thankyou for uploading this! I remember this from my childhood, also Disney's The Power of Love song shown every Valentine's, The Song of the South (banned for racism) and Punch & Judy, banned for violence. Give me a break! It really annoys me, especially when the society we live in is now more violent then ever before. I say, bring back the classics!

  • i used to have this on vhs. i was 4.

  • It's amazing how it's only scary when someone tells you about the 'ghost' or 'spirit' isn't it?

  • 2:06 LOL!

Headless horseman: Well it's about time you showed up now i can cut your head off. now hold still

  • to not look like such a ugly twat

  • so eventually the horseman turned back into prince charming which is icabot and then obviosuly he became the real bran bones becoz the actual bran bones was just a prick when icabot was really the nice man in life that only ment well for everone else and could of proberly made a better way of living for eveyone else thats why he had to make them see fear to understand the real beauty in thier lives. So the moral of the story is. icabot needed to perform cosmetic surgery on his self

  • @TheWarnabruva I never thought of it like that. It is just smart story of what could happen to you if you dont open your eyes. Icabot believed in people a little too much. He should know that Brom has his eye on that girl, and he should have known that he is an obsticle in his attentions. He was also a very superstitious man which helped Brom in his criminal attention.

  • i reakon he turned into the headless horseman or made mates with him only to tell all the pricks in his village how they really had to be cuz they were only living in there own sins and they didn't relize it becoz he never done anything wrong it was just everyone else

  • it was ban because it was soo freaken scary lol well for me at the age i was.

  • Kind of ironic that this movie was banned, yet 'The Great Mouse Detective' which had use of alcohol, smoking, people getting eaten alive, kidnapped, plain killed, AND bar-harlots is still being sold pretty much in every place that sells kid's movies.

I LIKED this movie. Yeah, it scared me when I was little, but I LIKE scary movies and games today, in part because of this movie and the story it was based off of.

  • Man how can the headless horseman get someone or know where to find or get them if he has no head?

    it dosen't make sense

  • @DanNZ4 it wasn't the headless horseman at all, it was Brom Bones.

  • @DanNZ4

It's folklore. It doesn't NEED to make sense. Curses are a large part of older folklore, and the headless horseman was cursed.

  • banned? the movie i saw when i was little was exactly like thiis =O

    Great moviee <3

  • ahhhhhh nothing like the classics who agrees?

  • @mywolverineyohan watching these just makes me want disney to go back to the classic way of doing things and stories. I mean, the animation nowadays is incredible, but I do miss the 2D look because it showed how much effort and work went into everything they made. Really showed they had a passion for the film, alone.

  • @mywolverineyohan I AGREE!!!!! NOTHING LIKE THE DISNEY CLASSICS!!!!!

  • 1. This scared the hell out of me when I was little! Although it takes away a lot of the mystery element when Ichabord swings around the branch and lands behind the rider... XD

    2. Even as a little girl, I never liked Katrina. I mean, she's designed like any animated girl little girls would usually like: Blonde, slender, beautiful, adored by pretty much everyone, and above all dressed in pink... XD However, this could never really disguise how she never seems to care about anyone but herself...

  • Poor Horse. He was scared to death the same time Ichabod was when they saw the Headless Horseman and his steed.

  • It's amazing how the climax in this movie is almost exaclty like in the book. The only difference is that the sattle didn't fall off, and it obviously adds humour because, well, it's a Disney movie.

  • @ROOKI3LINKX the other main difference being that in the book, Ichabod sees the horseman long before realising he was headless.

  • @athull08 Forgot that part. Havent read the book since I was 8.

  • I don't think this was banned, they were showing it at the Disney store a while back when I took my cousin there...

  • Wow,that was GOOD!

  • Actually, the movie was called "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" and was released in October 1949. The two shorts were later split up and shown separately for years, including video releases. As far as I know, this short has *never* been banned. This movie was first released in its *original* form on VHS in 1999, and on DVD in 2000.

  • lol the horses laugh is the funniest thing I've ever heard in my life

  • i am a girl and love to scare people at haunted attractions- had the honor of being the headless horseman and lord i wasn't getting paid enough.... a 14 yr girl came up to me and randomly started humping my leg... not aloud to break out of character or speak and one of the other actors was with me... the end i took off the outfit and we cracked up... if only that girl knew she humped another girl ;) (yes im straight btw just thought it was funny)

  • After knocking Ichabod unconscious by throwing the pumpkin at him (knocking his hat off as well, which is why the hat was found), Brom will have taken Ichabod somewhere secluded and killed him, and probably buried the body.

  • the laughing horse at 2:10 made me rofl XDXDXD

  • 1:36 his face is practically in the horses butt haha

  • I remember this so well - I loved that chase that the Headless Horseman gave to Ichabod. XD

  • Superb horror! Think about what people thought about in Swift's time, the unknown frontier, the whole continent was a mystery! Truly the personification of the collective fear, and done with such a smooth soundtrack to get your guard down. Great job!

  • At around 2:05 i freaked out. that's a creepy face.

  • Well, that's an unusual way to ride! lol

  • all the animals soud like ther saying things like

    Toad:headless horseman

    crows : beware

  • @shdowarrow yeah they're meant to :) and the toad's also saying "Ichabod"

  • ive always thought, when a demonic horseman with no head is chasing you, don't turn around once you thibk your safe, you keep running!!!!!!

  • @comprimiser

    Right?

  • its not so much the chase scene that creeps me out, its the suspense leading up to it

  • this reminds me so much of when i was a little kid WOW it takes me back

  • "man im gettin outa here" lol

  • can you hear the animals talk???

    Owl: who?..who?

    Frog: Headless horse men...

    Frog 2: oh oh.. oh...oh

    Crow..here he comes...

    Crow 2 ..Beware...

  • Bram was actually the horseman in the book. And why is this BANNED?What,to adultish for 1950's kids?):(

  • 2:32 is my new picture for forums :D

  • i still dont understand why this was banned

  • @xaviereartheart Probably because

    1. Disney realised this could scare someone

    2. The sword is a weapons

    3. The pumpkin hitting Ichabod's brains out wasn't seen, but was probably blocked because of course, when the pumpkin makes contact with Ichabod's oddly shaped head, Ichabod's brains and eyes will go out his ear. It's been logically proved that would be how Ichabod's body would look like, if it was ever found.

  • @starwarsfandude

Maybe they could turn this legend into a segment on that tv show "1,000 ways to die"!

  • Lol I laughed so hard watching him escape on that horse and get clothes lined lol!

  • Gosh, this still freaks me out like a little girl!!! A Classic!!

  • 5:36

Ichabod was a really busy man if he got 7 kids, XD.

Brom did get married to Katrina,i guess the dame was just testing if her Brom loved her enough to fight for her against Ichabod, ^_^

  • Constipated? Try 2:30 .

Welcome to pants shitting brown town

  • How come almost EVERY evil guy who rides a horse has an evil looking horse?

  • @wiseidiot5763 Evil usually means badass.

  • At 1:04 it looks like Ichabod grew a beard quickly.

  • So scary when the Headless Horseman appears!!

  • 2:06 this look scared the shit out of me!

  • This part scared me when I was little, but this film will always stick out in my childhood memories

  • Parents Magazine had a movie rating guide for films and would indicate which films were suitable for children. Mothers often used this to determine which films they wanted their kids to see. I'm sure that Legend of Sleepy Hollow would have had a few comments that it might terrify the smaller children, particularly the scenes with the Headless Horseman.

  • OMG! It's been 15 years since I watched this...

Now I'm 20... >.< And I remembered why I used to hate it!!!

<.<'' Not as scary as I remembered it though...

    I didn't know it was banned! O.O

    Thanks for sharing... ^_^

  • @CathObrien I haven't watched this in over 10 years. But i finnally found it.

  • @CathObrien It's actually not banned. The guy who posted this video put that in to get more views. I own this movie on DVD and it is certainly not banned.

  • @mmgcash522 lol I thought so too, because I have the VHS... but if he said so... -.- anyway... thank you for answering me (^_^)

  • I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but this is actually the second half of the feature "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad," which was released in 1949, so it's a bit older than 1958.

  • Thumbs up if u think the supposed "cool guy is a jerk and a**.

  • @SuperGoldenmoon Agreed!

  • @SuperGoldenmoon He is a murdurer, God damn it!

  • Such a disappointiing ending for a kids' movie... still a good short film. I haven't seen this in almost a decade.

  • @lu4y4pants me tooo!! Yea. just messed up. I feel really bad for the school master.

  • Best part is the horses laugh. Gets me everytime. I love how the horse is at first just a horse, then he becomes quite the character.

  • 7 people are about to have their heads chopped off.

    - Mr. Horseman

  • I'm surprised this was adapted by Disney to be honest

  • It was Brom Bones. If you read the story you know this.

  • @MichaelPT91 True, but in the Disney version it's implied that the Horseman is a ghost, and so he and Brom are two different beings.

  • @fivebearrugs how does it imply that? I can't see anything to suggest it's not Brom.

  • @athull08 I figured in the scene in which Ichabod looks down into the Horseman's head, or where the head should be...

  • @fivebearrugs for that, I think he just won't have been able to see Brom's hidden head because it was night time. In fact, IMO, this cartoon makes it even more obvious than the book that it was really Brom, with so many clues, including the horseman laughing, and using the very same sword that Brom had used at the party earlier, plus all the clues in the book.

Also, if he really was the spirit of a Hessian soldier, I would think he would be a rather better swordsman than this horseman was.

  • @athull08

Good point. But, I was looking closely at the Horseman's sword and it looks to be a greater length than the one Brom was using at the party. Brom's looked like a huge Bowie, while the Horseman's looks almost like a cutlass.

  • @Alcairo02 I'm pretty sure it's meant to be the same sword, and I'm still absolutely sure the horseman was Brom.

  • @Alcairo02 p.s In the book, the horseman was unquestionably Brom.

  • @athull08 Yes, even when I was a kid watching this it looked logical to me that it was Brom. If it would be real "ghost" Brom wouldnt tell that story in party. Great cartoon!

  • @athull08 a much better swordsman to have been a Hessian soldier!

  • @athull08: Well you got to amient that Icabin was really scared and he didn't realize it.

  • @sherlockzorro101 well, of course, he's not meant to realise it, but the reader, or viewer, is.

  • Comment removed

  • how was he laughing with no head

  • @vampireofthewest

ever heard of a HEARTY laugh?

  • nope but also how can he see where to swipe with no head

  • @vampireofthewest because he was Brom Bones

  • Thumbs up if you highly suspect the horseman was Brom Bones in disguise.
