This happened to me. I was playing a Team Doubles Game on Guardian. A player on the other team shot the plasma batteries by the sniper. It said I betrayed him even though I was over getting the Shotgun. PS: Your gamertag had nothing to do with it, it's just a glitch or somebody was lagging.

halo 3 is full of glitchy stuff especially in matchmaking, you'll see head shots that don't register as snipes, meleeing the front of a player and registering as an assasination, or other random crap that happens, so it's not too much of a shock to see this happen. it's a good game, but the glitch and lag problems just need to be fixed.
This sort of happened to me. I was playing on Avelanch however you spell it and I was in a Mongoose and then it said I betrayed someone on my team that was in a hornet. Nothing shot the hornet and it just expolded and it said I betrayed him. Kinda weird
I figured it out. Ok, in the very beginning when he melees that guy, you shoot him in the back, but only slightly. Therefore you are the last one to deal any damage to him, and it keeps that. The sniper hit the fusion coils (never touching sniper2477) and blowing him up. The damage you dealt to him carries over to the fusion coils damage, causing the betrayal. ^^ Or so that's my theory.
it can carry for about 20-30 seconds. You can test this by turning off shields completely and setting your damage resistance to 10%. Once you've done that, go to foundry in forge and build a soccer ball bouncing room. (4 shield doors close together and ball in center) So it's bouncing at a high speed. Let it hit you once, it won't kill you but it will deal damage. Then wait about 20-30 seconds and melee the ground or some object, it will kill yourself.
I can believe that because I've noticed lately on Halo whenever an enemy shoots you and a teammates cause you to die, it gives the other team the kill
I think that's because if you teamate is shooting at someone, and you run away from someone on the other team shooting you, and walk infront of your teamate who shoots you once, he doesn't really deserve a betrayal.
Also in slayer games betrayals aren't usually a negative 1 point for your team, if a teammate could kill you after the enemy got you down to no shields then they wouldn't get the point for them killing you. (basically its to stop cheating)

His shields would've recharged by then. And when you shoot the fusion coils, you get the kill.

i agree with underdoggyo did u damage him in any way? if u did thats wat it is cause if someone is damaged then kill by fusion coils of something like that the last person to damage him gets the kill/betrayal

it's only one kill, who gives a fuck. I woulda said "oops" and thought nuthin of it. u take this wayyyy too seriously if u went to ALL that trouble jus to find out if u really betrayed him or not. halo does that shit all the time, it has real difficulty placing kills correctly, i dont kno why.
I mean u can betray your own team mates by shooting at them after the enemy has but it doesnt count as a betrayal.
