@yohaijohn I think a stupid person responding to a negative test result in this way in real life probably happened a long time before either of these two sitcoms even existed! Its a pretty obvious joke, hardly think you can call it copying and if it is it was also copied from somewhere else by Seinfeld. And whats all the "what do you think of your world now?" about? You idiot. For the record, I love both of these shows just this video is just stupid.
Milton Berle once commended a co-star for a punchline, saying, "I wish I'd said that," to which the co-star would invariably reply, " Don't worry, you will."
I have even heard a few examples of what I perceive as the writers of Seinfeld using concepts that were used/discussed on early 90's Howard Stern Show - I would listen to clips of the HSS on here and it would be extremely similar to a concept or situation portrayed on later Seinfeld episodes...but purely conjecture on my part
I don't think that qualifies as stealing a joke, or jokes as it says in your title. I've seen that joke used hundreds of times before. It's just overused and cliche. Seinfeld did it the funniest but I don't think they were the first either. You'd have to find more "evidence" to actually convince anyone on the planet that The Office is stealing jokes from Seinfeld.
Do you not understand that it isn't really "stealing" a joke. That joke has been made years before seinfeild was made! And what do I think of my world now; you my friend are fucking stupid. You live in our world too, which makes it your world as well. So don't give me this "your world" bullshit. And how do I feel about it now?! I'm so shocked that a joke that has been told for decades now has been re-used. I don't know how I'm going to be able to watch the office ever again, I'm just too hurt...
seinfeld was not even in the first 100 to do the its negative? Oh my god I am going todie....its and old skit and many shows and comics have used it..
Writers and comedians often use or borrow jokes from others as an homage or tribute. It ain't no thang. Unless you're Dane Cook and Carlos Mencia. Then you're straight up stealing.
@billytamer Usually okay but always annoying... would rather them just cut the audience sound out. Sometimes i miss what they say because the audience is so loud.
I've seen jokes repeated on all kinds of sitcoms and stand up routines - some copied word for word and the delivery has been imitated to. This isn't so bad. I've seen Gervais and Merchant borrow jokes pretty heavily from the Office and use them elsewhere in other shows they've written (not even great jokes).
well, the seinfeld gag is funnier, but that's prolly because george costanza is funnier than michael scott. no shame in that, michael is still a very funny character.
as for stealing jokes, that particular line is such a common observation, it's hardly worth pointing out. "stealing" it is laughable. there were plenty of people who told that joke before Seinfeld aired it.
It's a good joke though, I imagine people make that mistake a lot. Besides, the two shows are from different eras, about 10 years apart, so it's totally fair game.
While I agree that it is the same joke, to be fair, once you've watched I love lucy, seinfeld, the dick van dyke show, and arrested development; you have effectively seen the entirety of television.
@Kirnus Okay, you've got a point about Black Books and the evil snake from harry potter. But I don't see boosh as something that everyone "needs" to see. And I'd like to think I know a fair bit about the crunch.
@existenceisrelative Your impressively versed I'll give you that. I was merely trying to point out that your suggestions hardly cover the wide and awesome range of tv comedy.
I think my world is basically spherical, rotating on a slightly tilted axis (in relation to the star Sol), and mostly covered in water. How about you?
Nobody steals, but everybody is inspired by Seinfeld. Just look at Friends and How I met your mother. There is a reason why Seinfeld is widely considered as the greatest sitcom of all time.
I can't fucking believe it. How can this be? in 180 episodes of Seinfeld and 162 episodes of The Office for a combined 8000 hours there is only one similar joke? Outrageous.
@TenYetis although i agree that shows with naturally have overlapping concepts, where the hell did you get that math from? 8000 hours? theres not even 200 hours between the two shows
well you could argue that both of them "stole" it from only fools and horses since american comedies simply can not think of funny and witty ideas for themselves..... but as NathanBLawrence said, "Nobody stole from anybody else. Jokes are like packages: it's all about delivery."
@yohaijohn What do I think about my world right now? Wow, you've really taken the wind out of my sails with this one. I don't really know how I will continue after seeing this profound video. It shook me to the bones. It rocked my very being. It made me quiver with anger, confusion, and hurt. I feel betrayed.
@hypertyper23 LOL, How many hours of footage do you think we'd end up with if we posted a clip from every television show, movie, play, or stand up comedy routine that contains this joke?
idk what i think about my world, economy's down the drain, america is involved with more wars than u can count, global warming is destroying the earth, and i have a cold thats been goin on for three months, but two shows use the same joke? STOP THE FUCKING PRESSES!
@Trashcansam123 I rented out the entire first season (and watched it all) and while it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be it was still very bad. The B.B.C. office is far superior!

Don't like the US? Stop watching our tv shows, get the fuck off of YouTube, and stop speaking English. Have fun making a porn film with Bin Laden's dead body.
@jfranko29 As long as US citizens keep denying the decline of their own country, the worse things will get. Unemployment, health care, mental health issues and education are massive concerns. It's time you see that these "United" states are in serious trouble.
I'm not trying to engage in political debate here, I merely hope for your own good that you begin to concern yourself with your country's own problems and your incessant intolerance before making uninformed statements about others.
@AtomFA you spelled new wrong...and really this joke is pretty done up...by many...and in terms of the office it was kinda expected...you just would not expect micheal scott to know that testing negative for cancer is good thing
my world's fine, although now i'm aware of one more idiot in it which isn't so good. but yeah, in 30 years this joke was bound to come up more than once. if you wanna make fun of something the office stole, how about the original office?
@stancosmos it didnt really steal it...considering ricky gervais...the creator of the original is the executive producer...and really you cant compare the 2 anymore...the british office was great but only good for 2 seasons, with what, 6,7,8 episodes per season? the us office has been hilarious for 7 seasons, going on its 8th...u maybe had one or two bad seasons...so really the us office deserves more credit than the british!
aside from the fact that it might not have been inspired by seinfeld, i think it fits that 'office'-moron very well, considering how he always has that kind of retarded things.
actually jokes like this are used all the time. Larry must of taken it from someone else.
there are jokes in my language, which are very old, i mean the sixties, jokes like these.
i my self have used this exact same joke before id seen seinfeld, the office.. i didnt copy anyone... i just think of jokes and i came up with this... it was like a different tone, different facial expression... but the same joke.

my world's fine, although now i'm aware of one more idiot in it which isn't so good. but yeah, in 30 years this joke was bound to come up more than once. if you wanna make fun of something the office stole, how about the original office?
