The problem with news being required to get huge ratings is that it results in people being told what they want to hear, not what they need to hear. Telling them the Iraq occupation could be a bust might have caused them to change the channel, so they never got to hear it until it was obvious.

@hughster41 Well, actually investors and sponsors equal money. Ratings are just something you can show sponsors to suggest their advertising will likely result in product sales. That can be true or not.
The problem with news being required to get huge ratings is that it results in people being told what they want to hear, not what they need to hear. Telling them the Iraq occupation could be a bust might have caused them to change the channel, so they never got to hear it until it was obvious.

I don't even have a TV set. Everything I watch I stream or download. And the average age of the FOX "News" audience is the mid-sixties. (Mid-fifties for MSNBC, although I bet Cenk's audience is a bit younger.)
Still it is important because old people vote and people in power are old. And they need to see Cenk on TV.

3pm Eastern is 6pm Pacific. And there are a lot of people flipping burgers or working odd hours or working part-time because of the economy.

@ForTheRepubl1c Fox News' audience is over 95% WHITE, currently so called "whites" are the majority, therefore they're going to have higher ratings. The fact that they often finish first in the ratings, is indicative of catering to said "whites". By no means is it indicative of "fair and balanced" news. If it we're "fair and balanced" it would be more diverse of an audience, representing a wide range of views.

I've always presumed Fox's ratings come from catering to the right. While the other news stations are left with the left minded viewers split up among them, and CNN seems to TRY to get moderates and moderate conservatives but..with people like Bill and Glen providing what the right wants to hear, and absolute comedy for Left viewers.. it's going to be hard to EVER beat ratings like that.
