  • I am from Albania and a practicing muslim and we have aboned the practice of male circumcion, and so have the muslim countries of the former Soviet Union.

I hear many youth specially among the upper classes in Lebanon,Tunisia,Dubai,Syria,Pakistan,Indonesia and others are abandoning the practice of Male circumcison rapidly anyone know?

  • Actually both male and female circumcision are only sunnahs.

The Koran does not mandate or obligate any form of genital mutilation on either sex.

Although many muslims think male circumcision is obligatory it is only an honorable deed, not an obligation.

  • i feel ashamed and embarassed as a muslim myself because customs and religions are mixed up resulting in conflict and mis interpretation like fgm. like other issues people claim in some countries (mostly in arab) silly things like locking their wives covering them so they are unrecognisable fgm and other extreme practices like the shias do(beat themseleves in the month of muharram) these things are all a result of lack of religious education and teaching.

  • ofcourse it is as common in arab countries thanks sonwamac alot of ppl denie it some dont but the sad fact is how these ppl are brainwashed and brought up to believe in fgm. Fgm is a traditional custom and not a religious act. Islamic scholars were not the messenger of allah no where in the kuran and i am egyptian does it accept such behaviour. Throughout islamic history like in any other religion even still today one shiekh (priest) says things in favour of fgm while the other does not.

  • She says it's mostly not practiced in Arab cultures but is in African cultures who have inherited it from Pharonic times..she is in denial as many pale Arabs are...this practice is as common in the Arab world as in Arica...absolutely

  • The quran kareem to some degree allows female circumcision according to the majority of islamic scholars...and what about polygamy, is that also practiced by christians?

  • Well, Vierotchka is right in sofar as there are Christians who pratice female genital cutting and even polygamy is upheld by some Christian fringe groups (e.g. a small group within the Mormon denomination, Davidians).

  • It must be noted that female circumcision is also practiced by Christians in several African countries, including Egypt, and that it is rooted in tradition and culture and not in religion.
