In NGE, there is mention of the Dead Sea Scrolls and what they prophesize. Although the NGE prophesies were probably alittle off compared to the real thing hehe. Man plays god and attempts to give death and rebirth to his entire race... umm no defiance there.

Different scrolls, they actually have nothing in common with the scrolls of the similiar name, they are actually called SEELE's secret Dead Sea Scrolls.

And No defiance, at least, SEELE certiantly didn't think it was, instead, it's goal was to 'save humanity', while Gendo's was just seeing his wife again.

... No, I'm saying NONE of this was done with God in mind, in the end, yes, they're all 'sinners' and overall all were misguided in some way.

Neither SEELE nor Gendo wanted humaniy to be 'recreated', that wasn't the plan, with SEELE, they just wanted to 'save humanity' (themselves included) in the only way they thought possible, while Gendo just wanted to see his wife and leave the rest of humanity out of it.

There was no religous involvement or undertones, no one is even religous in Eva.

Well, I can see where they may have gotten it.

Hideaki Anno used a ton of Judeo-Christian symbology and legend. All the names of the "Angels" are names of Angels from Catholic lore. Anno didn't use it to be controversial though. It was because Judeo christian symbolgy looks mysterious to the Japanese the way the symbols of Eastern Religion look mysterious to us. Beside all that, great video.

Well thats not completely true.. It was completely intentional on the part of the series makers to incorporate Christian mythology, and I have to say they did there home work. They even went beyond and included elements from Eunucks and Jubilees by including the Nephilim, which were repusented by the Evas themselves!
