Christians just say it,Extremest Muslims actually stone and murder Gays(Iran hint hint). "Two gay men in Iran have been sentenced to death by stoning for taking part in and taping homosexual acts", the International Committee Against Stoning (ICAS) Jan 2011. People get mad about Christians. At least we dont go around murdering people for their life styles.
@bmxtrickyman So what, he may have been brought up a Catholic however he may realise the delusional folly of religion and how corrupt, immoral and depraved the Catholic church is.
@syraeuniverse Lol! The clip is of people quoting the bible: why shouldn't we? And there is nothing subliminal about the message in this clip. Do you understand what "subliminal" means?
If atheism had a Pope it would be Richard Dawkins. Christopher Hitchens would be the Cardinal for America. The only thing is that RD would allow consenting adults to use condoms, he would condemn peadphiles and not hide them. He would say that homosexuality is just a part of nature and not wrongful. He would not be devisive.
@roac7777 In my world, Richard Dawkins is atheism's Pope <3. And Christopher Hitchens is the Cardinal for America.
But I also understand that if someone does interpret a religion in a "negative" way, it is just because of their past and their level of consciousness. Merely the result of the person's genetic predisposition and environmental factors such as upbringing. And any judgment I make about them, I make about myself. That acceptance, is love.
@garage13 You talk of love, then it must be unconditional love, not that proposed by a non existent celestial dicatator, who wants you to fear him but love him at the same time. That is Sadastic Masochism and the act of a tyrant. If the god of Abraham came to me as he did Abraham, and tell me that I must gut my children in order to prove my love to him, I would say: No fuck you.
@roac7777 Put it in context. God didn't just tap Abraham on the shoulder out of the blue and say, "Offer up one of your kids as a burnt offering to me." Ishmael was a gift from God, and Abraham had seen many things by this point from his own aggrandizement at God's hand to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham knew God, and perhaps he even knew that God was testing him.
Whether or not this is myth, stay true to the narrative
@dblthnk02 God mentally tortured Abraham and in the case of Jephthah he actually had to sacrifice his daughter in order to prove his love for this sadistic celestial tyrant.
No sane or moral person would do such a thing. As for it being a test, you therefore have a god who you fear and yet are supposed to love that is sado masochism.
@roac7777 God "mentally tortured" Abraham? You are just drawing your own conclusion, but based on what? Based on the simple fact that you don't want to believe in the God of the bible? Then don't, but your rejection doesn't change the bible one bit. And if the bible is true, then you are rejecting truth.
What is so "sane or moral" about that?
Btw, scripture does not overtly state that Jephthah sacrificed his daughter, but he did do something, and she knew about his vow ahead of time
@dblthnk02 You have just proven my point by your riposte to my statement. Religion makes people say stupid things, it also makes normally good people commit atrocities. Your god is genocidal, infanticidal, homophobic, slave condoning, rape condoning, sadistic and a tyrant. It is all there in the Bible.
There is no scientific evidence that your god or anyone else's god exists. The Bible is all myth, just like the Greek Pantheon of gods are myth and the Norse gods; Odin and Thor.
@dblthnk02 Why?.. you ask, because of scientific fact that is why. And no, I am not a god I would and could not be as no one can suspend the laws of nature and science.
@dblthnk02 If you have read the whole bible, you should be able to find out that 'Love' and 'Kindness' is what it is all about in God's eyes. Being a Christian, we should love others and not to judge others. No matter they are homosexual or straight, God love them as they are. As long as their love is true and real, God will also bless them.
@roac7777 wait... so let me get this straight: you just said, "God mentally tortured Abraham"... but you don't believe God exists...? you just contradicted yourself, buddy
@roac7777 ...I don't see how that applies as a response to what I said... lmao like it just doesn't... Also, you don't seem to be using 'prevaricating' properly? But I suppose I should not have expected you to make much sense. Ah, well.
@GrannyDances That is because I have used the word prevaricating in the correct context. You know perfectly well what I meant when I said that god mentally tortured Abraham. I was making the point that if god exists then he is guilty of being a sadist and is also guilty of the following crimes: genocide, infanticide, homophobia, murdering his son, and is a Fascist dictator. If you wish to debate me then make comments that are not evasive, deceptive or false. That is prevaricating.
Perhapss it would be just as suitable to categorise this video under "Education," seeing as though Bartlett is doing some serious schooling right there.

If you were to grill an Orthodox Jew about silly bullshit in the Talmud, that Jew would stand up, demean you with ingenius rhetorical word play, call you a pagan Nazi and make you wish you had shut the fuck up about Abrahamism. That's the difference between Jews and gentiles.
I've had the luck to meet very few Christians who have that viewpoint. It pisses me off how these people make all Christians look bad. And this, this is perfect. God I love this show!
Everyone must analyze the Bible in a "historical critical" way, to recognize the difference of opinions back then and the ridiculousness of trying to relate those beliefs to modern times..
Here's some facts: unfortunately there are many Christians who can be considered Literalists and take the Bible word for word as it is, and it's easy to view that as ridiculus, but when you find a man or woman like this anywhere, who only uses pieces of religious teachings that promote the cruelty of man towards the homosexual but deems other pieces no longer true, THAT is hypocritical in its PEAK.
Great. If you're going to buy into part of a book written in the Iron Age by a bunch of desert dwelling nomadic goatherds, you ought to buy into all of it, however ridiculous it makes you look.
@ishtarg8 I've personally found that the Bible has good lessons in it, ones that you don't have to be religious to learn from. Of course there are crackpot parts of it, as you said, it's pretty ancient. There's also way too many concepts in the Bible to follow all of it. It'd be easier if people didn't have to take things so literally, twist it to their own means, and just recognize that, yeah, much of it doesn't apply in our society today. I hope you aren't offended, there was none intended.
AMEN SIR, AMEN!!! I'm gay and I'm Christian, yes we do exist! I have people tell me that I can't marry a woman that it would be an abomination; my own mother is one of these people sadly. She says we could live together but we really shouldn't get married. I want to say this to people, I really do!
@sillykatz I'm sure she didn't mean for you to be gay...Cause what is marriage? A bond made by a piece of paper...and a bond that is held together by a piece of paper...well, you can easily tear that shit apart.
ALL of this shit is Old Testament. You should read the New Testament. The arrival and teachings of Jesus is VERY important. He pretty much denounces all of the Old Testament rules with logic, reason, and love.
So why not get rid of the Old Testament? Thomas Jefferson wrote his own bible where he removed all the "miracles" and supernatural hokus pokus. It is funny that the American public think that the founders of the US were so christian when in fact they were not..
@bergis81 The founders of the US were not Christian?... They were devoted believers of God. This country's foundation was built on their faith in a God that was VERY real to them...They didn't have computers , tv, cars, etc to occupy their thoughts...They actually lived in reality...
@bergis81 Thank God these men kept their opinions to themselves and decided to build this country's foundation on God...otherwise, who knows how we would have turned out...
@bergis81 LoL and these quotes do not denounce their faith. LOL! Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin were living in a time when churches and clergymen were corrupt and instilling fear into the hearts of the people...and John Adams, well, is that not true? Most of humanity's wars are caused by religion...Why dont you give me a quote by George Washington? :)
It is rather revealing what they thought of religion however. I thought it was just teenage girls that used such expressions as "lol", but I stand corrected.
Clergymen and churches will always be corrupt. But he did not say "The churches are corrupt" did he?
I did not say that I disagreed with Adams, quite the opposite.
"Thank God these men kept their opinions to themselves and decided to build this country's foundation on God...otherwise, who knows how we would have turned out..."
They did not keep it to themselves did they? Hence the quotes. Jefferson wrote his own bible!!! How is that keeping it to himself?
What makes you think they built it on "god"? The constitution is a secular document last I looked..
@b3njamin0912 The founders of USA were not all Christians, but yes, the country's foundation is built upon the belief of a God.
How?
Well, you see, there was a little something happening in the 17th century called The Enlightenment, and within it was another little something called Deism. T-Jeff and Ben-Frank were both Deists.
Christianity isn't the only religion with a God, but I understand that this concept is shocking to someone with a tiny mind.
@areyoukidding Well Jesus Christ was a man and apparently He was also God. Jesus was a man. So am I. I believe in myself, but when the time comes when complete darkness seems inevitable, God (Allah, buddah, etc) is the light at the end of the tunnel.
@b3njamin0912 Well, I'm a Deist, so while I respect and appreciate Jesus' effort towards humanity, I don't dig the whole son-of-God deal. It's true that religion provides the hope that people need to get through tough times though.
It's when assholes decided to use that holy light at the end of the tunnel as a weapon against other humans that shit goes down the drain, and a lot of shit is going down the drain.
@areyoukidding Treaty of tripoli, ratified 1797, personally signed by John Adams. "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion, and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."
damn, my friend posted this on fb. This is exactly what I needed to hear. I came out to a good amount of my friends at a party a couple days ago. Some laughed at me, some gave me dirty looks, and others were just frozen. Embarrassed, I walked out literally in tears. I don't understand why being homosexual has such a negative stigma.
LOL..I just love it how he misrepresents Scripture in this. Wow, the ignorance. And of course they wrote the ignorant diatribe in such a way that the woman could not answer. LOL.
@woohootrainiscoming Apparently you don't understand the meaning of the word "misrepresent." Anyone can quote Scripture, but quoting it in context and with understanding of the historical issues, is something different.
@CRoadwarrior Apparently you didn't understand any of what I said. It's there in the bible, go look it up. The point of this excerpt isn't to say "lol bible has crazy shit", it's to explain that picking and choosing which parts of the bible is a hypocritical practise which results in fundamentalist christians ignoring parts of the bible. Go read Johnathan Dudleys blog on the matter.
@woohootrainiscoming I understood clearly. Now since I can actually read the Hebrew and Greek originals of the Bible, and thus I'm not some ignorant boob claiming to know something from just reading English translations, I would think I know the Bible and what it means in context better than some ignorant script writer on that show, and anyone on this forum arguing they know the Bible when they don't.
@CRoadwarrior Then please, do explain to me your thoughts and opinions on how homosexuality is viewed in the bible, and how the bible instructs us to view it today.
@woohootrainiscoming I will keep this real simple. From Old to New Testament, homosexuality is condemned (Lev. 18:22; Rom. 1:26,27). This cannot be said for many other laws and regulations, mostly misrepresented in this video.
@CRoadwarrior Ok. Well, I disagree with you, but ok. I'm not gonna bother pursuing the point much further, as I don't think either of us will change our minds.
@woohootrainiscoming I know you disagree, but you have no Biblical basis for it. I'm just pointing out that ignorance and misrepresentation are not bliss.
@CRoadwarrior@woohootrainiscoming are you under the impression that the 'original bible' was written in greek? Hebrew, possibly, but certainly Greek would've been an early translation, at best, and already littered with problems. For instance, the 'virgin birth', if we're talking about translation playing a part in misinterpretation...how about the fact that the word 'Almah' (the word used in Isaiah 7:14) simply means a young woman.
@woohootrainiscoming In fact, the only reason we refer to it as the 'virgin birth' is because a greek translated it to 'parthenos' which denotes a sexually pure woman. Eventually Christian followers latched onto that and gave it the mythical qualities it has now. What the character is clearly alluding to is that you can't pick one quote from the old testament and say it's untarnished, but ignore the rest.
@CRoadwarrior For example, Ex. 21:7 is NOT about selling a daughter into slavery. It's about the ancient custom of how a woman was given over in marriage in arranged marriage. The context was ignored, along with the cultural issues of the time. Ex. 35:2 is not absolute, as Jesus made clear in Luke 13:15,16 and Matt. 12:1-5. But that was not explained. Those questions were an ignorant rant designed to confuse and deceive.
@CRoadwarrior The ancient custom of arranged marriage was actually pretty similar to slavery, if you read an actual history book instead of believing the Bible is real history, you would know that. The fact that an omniscient 'god' would step in and write a rule/guide book for the human species which doesn't apply to the human species practically at all within two thousand years is preposterous. God would've written something to be 'perfect', it would either not have to be updated...
You cant take these quotes literally. Given a choice of keeping religion or destroying it what would you do?
Consider how much comfort religion brings to people in grief, lonleyness and support. Its a personal thing that should be taken in moderation, and never forced upon anyone.
@calvinoespiranto And there you have the religious principle in the founding of the United States of America. Religion is a thing of the people, not of the state. Which is why the state should not look towards religion to justify its action or inaction, but to its laws, which in the case of the US state that all people are created equal, and should not be hindered in their pursuit of happiness.
On that same note, that means that people like homosexuals should not be hindered in their pursuit of happiness because of shitheads who don't know their own religion.
@calvinoespiranto You're right. In fact, none of the bible should be taken literally, because it's a huge bag of incomprehensibly evil horseshit. If someone presented me with a "annihilate all religion button," sure, I'd press it. What harm could it possibly do?
@TheDesperateHodges Yes I know. We in England have a Deputy Prime Minister who is an atheist but he would not come out with a statement such as that. However his atheism has not stopped him from being voted in which shows that we English in general are not bothered about what a politicians beliefs are. As long as they do not mix it with politics.
I am so tired of people looking down upon, hating, and being idiotic concerning my life and how I live it. As a gay person, I grow weary of trying to change anyone's mind. I have known since I was 7 that I was attracted to/wanted to be close to males. A child that age cannot make a sexual "choice", let alone understand totally what sexuality is. I was never molested, my dad was a great guy and role model, there was a strong masculine presence in my life. But yet, I'm gay. Wake up; let us alone
@allottaforchina Yes, since 7. I knew I wanted to be around "older" males for some reason. By the time I was 13, I knew why. I was never attracted to girls/women in this way
@fuck192ass Aw come on! These are old rules that applied 2011 years ago, and that are not applicable in today's society...I don't know if a God there is, maybe there is, but it is clear to me that Bible, Coran and any other religious book has been written by a handful of malicious men that knew they could control anyone they want with these "divine rules" no one would dare deny! And it worked!
And seriously, would u follow these rules u would just kill yourself for having a pseudo like this!
@yezek67 Still the same twisted-ass God though right? If said God is supposed to be perfect and at one time told people that in his supreme authority as himself that all those Old Testament laws and their punishments were perfectly right, proper and righteous then he was and still is by today's human standards of decency a giant asshole, end of story.
There is a clear distinction between the laws that only applied to the people of Israel for the purpose of their specific civilization and the laws that are to be followed universally by all of creation, for all time. Homosexuality falls into the second category. It is a law of creation and unlike the other laws of the Old Testament it is still present in the New Testament.
@cwackabawol Really, can you point out the verse in the bible which makes that distinction? Better yet, if faith is the only relevent factor in salvation, as the doctrine of sola fide establishes in the Protestant Christian religion, why is the action or sin of homosexuality any more or less evil than any other sin readily forgiven by God through Jesus' sacrifice? Even supposing that for some reason some laws from the Pentateuch apply to us and some only to the Hebrews it should be irrelevent.
@cwackabawol And there are verses in the New Testament which indicate that the 'whole law' must be kept, even Jesus saying that you must keep God's commandments in order to attain salvation and he can only have been referring to the laws of the Old Testament. He condemns pharisees for upholding the letter of the law and not the spirit but never says the old laws were abolished but that not a word of them would change. Still, no insight to the complications of sola fide or relativistic morality?
No dude. It does not "attack the bible," just some people's interpretation of the bible and their slavish adherence to precepts that no longer make sense. To me the bible is just a book. No better or necessarily worse than a John Grisham novel, most of which I greatly admire. It occurred to me that it might be interesting to see in a thousand or two thousand years what could happen if someone came across the Harry Potter series for instance and decided that was holy scripture.
I thot of essentially the same thing. I call it my "Chuck Norris concept". People always joke about Chuck Norris. But obviously we know it's not true. Well, what if 2000 years from now, someone finds our Chuck Norris jokes and thinks they're real? I think it might have been the same thing with Jesus. He was just a popular man, who, 2000 years later, was misinterpreted for a messiah. I think it's possible.
I've just been watching this over and over. I love it! OWNED! Where I live there's a lot of people like her and it's really refreshing to know that there are people out there who don't agree.
Religious people remind me of a two year old child; Tell them something they don't want to hear and they just stick their fingers in their ears and go LALALALALA!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This program attacks the bible beliefs because the rather please people than God, why if homosexuality is not wrong then how come two men or two women together can't reproduce? Stop attacking the bible, what you are doing is fighting against God and you won't have the last laugh.
@htownghost They don't have to reproduce because heterosexual couples can do that. There are many abandoned children out there. Guess who adopts them and raise them as their own? Homosexuals do. This is not attacking the Bible. It's attacking ignorance.

Everyone must analyze the Bible in a "historical critical" way, to recognize the difference of opinions back then and the ridiculousness of trying to relate those beliefs to modern times..

Ugh, that character is PERFECT. : )

Great. If you're going to buy into part of a book written in the Iron Age by a bunch of desert dwelling nomadic goatherds, you ought to buy into all of it, however ridiculous it makes you look.
ishtarg8 2 months ago 8

I want to say this to people, I really do!
sillykatz 5 months ago
@sillykatz I'm sure she didn't mean for you to be gay...Cause what is marriage? A bond made by a piece of paper...and a bond that is held together by a piece of paper...well, you can easily tear that shit apart.
b3njamin0912 4 months ago 3
ALL of this shit is Old Testament. You should read the New Testament. The arrival and teachings of Jesus is VERY important. He pretty much denounces all of the Old Testament rules with logic, reason, and love.
b3njamin0912 5 months ago 2
@b3njamin0912
So why not get rid of the Old Testament? Thomas Jefferson wrote his own bible where he removed all the "miracles" and supernatural hokus pokus. It is funny that the American public think that the founders of the US were so christian when in fact they were not..
bergis81 4 months ago
@bergis81 The founders of the US were not Christian?... They were devoted believers of God. This country's foundation was built on their faith in a God that was VERY real to them...They didn't have computers , tv, cars, etc to occupy their thoughts...They actually lived in reality...

Lighthouses are more useful than churces - Benjamin Franklin

But I am sure you are right....

@bergis81 Thank God these men kept their opinions to themselves and decided to build this country's foundation on God...otherwise, who knows how we would have turned out...
b3njamin0912 4 months ago
@bergis81 LoL and these quotes do not denounce their faith. LOL! Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin were living in a time when churches and clergymen were corrupt and instilling fear into the hearts of the people...and John Adams, well, is that not true? Most of humanity's wars are caused by religion...Why dont you give me a quote by George Washington? :)
b3njamin0912 4 months ago
@b3njamin0912

They did not keep it to themselves did they? Hence the quotes. Jefferson wrote his own bible!!! How is that keeping it to himself?
What makes you think they built it on "god"? The constitution is a secular document last I looked..
bergis81 4 months ago
@b3njamin0912 The founders of USA were not all Christians, but yes, the country's foundation is built upon the belief of a God.
How?
Well, you see, there was a little something happening in the 17th century called The Enlightenment, and within it was another little something called Deism. T-Jeff and Ben-Frank were both Deists.
Christianity isn't the only religion with a God, but I understand that this concept is shocking to someone with a tiny mind.

@areyoukidding Well Jesus Christ was a man and apparently He was also God. Jesus was a man. So am I. I believe in myself, but when the time comes when complete darkness seems inevitable, God (Allah, buddah, etc) is the light at the end of the tunnel.
b3njamin0912 2 months ago
@b3njamin0912 Well, I'm a Deist, so while I respect and appreciate Jesus' effort towards humanity, I don't dig the whole son-of-God deal. It's true that religion provides the hope that people need to get through tough times though.
It's when assholes decided to use that holy light at the end of the tunnel as a weapon against other humans that shit goes down the drain, and a lot of shit is going down the drain.
Peace. ;)

CRoadwarrior 6 months ago
@CRoadwarrior He doesn't misrepresent scripture at all. It's all there in the bible if you'd like to look it up.
woohootrainiscoming 6 months ago
@woohootrainiscoming Apparently you don't understand the meaning of the word "misrepresent." Anyone can quote Scripture, but quoting it in context and with understanding of the historical issues, is something different.
CRoadwarrior 6 months ago
@CRoadwarrior Apparently you didn't understand any of what I said. It's there in the bible, go look it up. The point of this excerpt isn't to say "lol bible has crazy shit", it's to explain that picking and choosing which parts of the bible is a hypocritical practise which results in fundamentalist christians ignoring parts of the bible. Go read Johnathan Dudleys blog on the matter.
woohootrainiscoming 6 months ago 2
@woohootrainiscoming I understood clearly. Now since I can actually read the Hebrew and Greek originals of the Bible, and thus I'm not some ignorant boob claiming to know something from just reading English translations, I would think I know the Bible and what it means in context better than some ignorant script writer on that show, and anyone on this forum arguing they know the Bible when they don't.
CRoadwarrior 6 months ago
@CRoadwarrior Then please, do explain to me your thoughts and opinions on how homosexuality is viewed in the bible, and how the bible instructs us to view it today.
woohootrainiscoming 6 months ago
@woohootrainiscoming I will keep this real simple. From Old to New Testament, homosexuality is condemned (Lev. 18:22; Rom. 1:26,27). This cannot be said for many other laws and regulations, mostly misrepresented in this video.
CRoadwarrior 6 months ago
@CRoadwarrior Ok. Well, I disagree with you, but ok. I'm not gonna bother pursuing the point much further, as I don't think either of us will change our minds.
woohootrainiscoming 6 months ago
@woohootrainiscoming I know you disagree, but you have no Biblical basis for it. I'm just pointing out that ignorance and misrepresentation are not bliss.
CRoadwarrior 6 months ago
@CRoadwarrior @woohootrainiscoming are you under the impression that the 'original bible' was written in greek? Hebrew, possibly, but certainly Greek would've been an early translation, at best, and already littered with problems. For instance, the 'virgin birth', if we're talking about translation playing a part in misinterpretation...how about the fact that the word 'Almah' (the word used in Isaiah 7:14) simply means a young woman.
AList82 5 months ago in playlist West Wing
@woohootrainiscoming In fact, the only reason we refer to it as the 'virgin birth' is because a greek translated it to 'parthenos' which denotes a sexually pure woman. Eventually Christian followers latched onto that and gave it the mythical qualities it has now. What the character is clearly alluding to is that you can't pick one quote from the old testament and say it's untarnished, but ignore the rest.

bergis81 4 months ago
@CRoadwarrior For example, Ex. 21:7 is NOT about selling a daughter into slavery. It's about the ancient custom of how a woman was given over in marriage in arranged marriage. The context was ignored, along with the cultural issues of the time. Ex. 35:2 is not absolute, as Jesus made clear in Luke 13:15,16 and Matt. 12:1-5. But that was not explained. Those questions were an ignorant rant designed to confuse and deceive.
CRoadwarrior 6 months ago

Its a personal thing that should be taken in moderation, and never forced upon anyone.
calvinoespiranto 8 months ago
@calvinoespiranto And there you have the religious principle in the founding of the United States of America. Religion is a thing of the people, not of the state. Which is why the state should not look towards religion to justify its action or inaction, but to its laws, which in the case of the US state that all people are created equal, and should not be hindered in their pursuit of happiness.
fvschie 7 months ago 3
@fvschie
On that same note, that means that people like homosexuals should not be hindered in their pursuit of happiness because of shitheads who don't know their own religion.

KentRigeI 11 months ago
There is a clear distinction between the laws that only applied to the people of Israel for the purpose of their specific civilization and the laws that are to be followed universally by all of creation, for all time. Homosexuality falls into the second category. It is a law of creation and unlike the other laws of the Old Testament it is still present in the New Testament.

cwackabawol 11 months ago
@cwackabawol Really, can you point out the verse in the bible which makes that distinction? Better yet, if faith is the only relevent factor in salvation, as the doctrine of sola fide establishes in the Protestant Christian religion, why is the action or sin of homosexuality any more or less evil than any other sin readily forgiven by God through Jesus' sacrifice? Even supposing that for some reason some laws from the Pentateuch apply to us and some only to the Hebrews it should be irrelevent.
KentRigeI 1 year ago
@KentRigeI Romans 1:26–27, 1 Corinthians 6:9–10, and 1 Timothy 1:8–11, Jude 7
cwackabawol 11 months ago
