I remember this movie when I was a kid (early 70s). I wondered where would it all end? Would Grant Williams shrink so small that he would do battle with a molecule?
I wanted to watch this movie, but hearing Mr. Welles awesome voice made me want to watch it even more. He was working on one of my favorite movies, Touch of Evil at the time
I love the film and also read the novel recently. If you loved the movie you will ADORE the novel. The movie skipped over a LOT of things in the novel, things Im not about to go into here for fear of creating spoilers. But believe me, the novel is MAGNIFICENT. It's called "The Shrinking Man", the "Incredible" bit is absent. And the ending is different, too. You really need to read this excellent book.
This was a very philosophical film. It was well shot and very well acted. Everything leads up perfectly to the end and the ending doesn't disappoint one bit.
It's easy to say they should remake it because it's such a great concept, but you just know they'd bastardize, likely stripping away any emotional depth and replacing it with equal parts explosions and tits.
@Boris247 You know the sad thing? I really wanted this movie remade. With exactly the same serious tone but in a modern setting, with more detail and scenarios. Maybe a college age character, maybe a regular bachelor or maybe a working husband, the possibilities were endless. And now it's gonna be a crapfest for the Disney channel. I think I'm gonna be sick.
I know, SUCH a moving movie. The isolation and loneliness that were put across were so great I almost cried. Didn't quite like it's subliminal messages (let you're woman get too big for and she...well get's too big for you). Such a pity they're going to remake it :(

One thing he could have tried in the basement was writing a message in the dust in case his wife or brother-in-law ventured down there.

This already was re-made, way back in 1981. It was The Incredible Shrinking Woman, with Lilly Tomlin.

This movie is good enough to not need a remaking.

Bad news: They are propably going to remake this movie. They maybe want to use Eddie Murphy to play as main character.
