Its a fake fart... its easy to tell by how cold the gas is. The gas would at least be the same body temp as the rest of you, which means it would glow white... not be pitch black (as in very cold).

Ok. Mythbusters figured this one out on their website. But the video is definitely fake. In the upper right hand corner it says that heat is shown as white. This is clearly seen by skin temperature of the farter and the passing people. By this logic then, a human fart would show up as white, since the gas comes from the human body.

Your thinking of thermal imaging. FLIR is "foward looking infared". It has been used for a few decades by the military, and working its way into the civilian markets on cameras. I agree that the film was faked, thats just too much gas to be real.

techinically with a FLIR you can set it to Black Hot, making hot things black instead of white. SO, saying this is a hoax because the spray is black... untrue. This video is, however, a hoax because the FLIR is clearly set to white hot, as evidenced by the fact that the fingers are darker than the arm, and extremities get colder as you move further away from the center of the body.

It's a fake. the FLIR should show hot gases as lighter color (not black). Also, how can the fart gas instantaneously go through the as if unimpeded by both the undewear and pants? There should at least be a delay before the gas escapes in a dispersed cloud.

Sorry, but this can't be real. The way infrared works is that cooler things are, the darker the light, the warmer things are the brighter. The guy must be expelling some other cool gas with his left hand. Doesn't make a lot of sense otherwise :\
