Yup, it is weird, but in the context of the entire show it worked and was quite funny. "Lola" took on new meaning throughout the show and I think it actually deepened the character.
Hmm -- I'd have to say that a gender-swapped version of "Damn Yankees" is an intriguing idea that maybe didn't quite work!
(If you're going to turn "Lola" into a man, why not rewrite the song lyrics as necessary so that the character can be, well, a bit more macho? Forcing the male singer to call himself "leetle Lola" adds a touch of campiness that doesn't seem to fit the story or its 1940s setting...)
It does appear rather out of context of the show. The character "played" this attempt to distract Jo for this song and when that did not work, went to his "normal" character- lost the accent and all. The Lola character has a change of heart about his service to the devil and this scene was early in the show. The audience loved the whole show, but I can see how bad it would have been if the character remained this shallow.
glad you liked it. They are in rehearsal now for the next show- Into the Woods, only 3 guys,Baker, and the 2 princes. 20 girls will play all the other roles. James (Senor Lola) will play the Baker. Watch for it in March.
Because it was performed at an all girls school- so they switched the roles around to cast as many girls as possible, casting an all girls baseball team. They also set it back 10 years to when the All American Women's Professional Baseball league was running (1940's)
I am not sure what you mean by "the full", but I am glad you enjoyed it. It is fun to show another wy to set this show, and as I don't want to infringe on copyrights, this is all I will post. Thanks for commenting.
lol lola as a boy.
i did this musical in high school. i almost wish we'd thought of that
I have to admit, i don't care for the 3 random ladies.

uh.... sorry i must say i dont care for the gender swap. its weird to see a guy lola because lola is very slutty in this scene.

Strange, but I am entertained. This fellow has a wacky, lovable quality that the poor chorus girls distract from. Next time pick La Cage Aux Follies.

Me too, but they cut that one from the show. "Lola" never had a shot at it!

This is really great, I love this video. You should put up A little brains, a little talent. I'd love to see how Senor Lola acts that out.

This confuses me.

that's ok, it is supposed to be odd enough to tickle your funny bone.

Oh, it's more than odd. It's nonsensical. Try a Charles Ludlam play next time.
