If you havent seen or heard of the mass end of season poisoning which we are receiving almost daily reports of, all I can say is you're very lucky where you live.If I were racist, I would not be spending all my energy writing letters to your ministers/ mayors of the various municipalities, send euros or have all the greek friends I do.I even had a newspaper article of mine printed in Kos yesterday to show you how dedicated I am. I did come to Greece and that is the problem, it was end of tourist season, otherwise I would never have known about the "end of season poisoning regime" which was told to me by greek people. There are many good greek people who are ashamed of their own country but what can they do, the govt will not listen and the mayors are the ones who, a lot of the time, instruct the municipality workers to put the poison out. You need to find out more information.Locals individuals use "fola".

As I said to someone before, generally humans are in control of their own destiny whereas animals are dependant on us. I am at an age now where rightly or wrongly, I have no interest in humans hardly at all, just animals. I am lucky enough to have many greek animal loving friends who admit they are in the minority.  One quoted only recently to me "we gave the world civilisation but it is a shame we did not keep some back for ourselves".

You sound like a decent guy but alas in denial somewhat. Sometimes outsiders know more about another's country, an example I did not know about the vile queens guards fur helmets until a greek friend informed me about that. Now I can hopefully help in that direction.

When Greek gov wanted stray dogs of Athens removed, Athenians disagreed and kept them. Now the streets of Athens are full of stray dogs, all sterilized with their collars and health inspections. None of them found burned as homeless people in New York.

There are approx 12 million population in Greece and therefore, per capita, greece now holds the worst animal abuse record in the EU. 15,000 animals were "removed" just prior to the 2004 olympics. WSPA and PETA went to greece to discuss problem but the agric min did not want to know about neutering and humane euthanasia, so WSPA & PETA have sadly dropped Greece. There is no need for anyone to be homeless in u.k., these people choose that lifestyle instead of a shelter.

No lady, 2001 count showed 10,881,000 population (including the 1,200,000 immigrants). Greek population has been reducing for years now.

Only 150-200 dogs were removed from Athens during the Olympics (do you realize how ridiculously huge of a number is 15000 dogs, as you said, in a city). Now, all those dogs are returned to the streets of Athens, all sterilized with their collars and health inspections.

I myself visited the temporary shelter and adopted one of those dogs.
