Mazda is having a hard enough time trying to get their new 16X engine to pass very strict future global emissions laws, that development of a 4rotor could quite literally put them on the verge of bankruptcy.

just to manufacture ONE 4rotor eccentric shaft costs about $15k if you know of any one of the 4 or so machinists in the world who have already built a few of them with little success in the longevity of the motor

since its a rotary wouldnt 9k rpm be more like 27k rpm? that would explain why it sounds faster than a cbr600 which revs to 15k (rotarys have 3 explosions per cycle)

a 4 rotor is more equal to a 24 cyl than more rpms. rotarys are 3 per cycle vs piston engines are however many pistons every other cycle.

rotarys just make a completely different sound that will never be matched by a piston engine
