If it weren't for You Tube, I wouldn't know anything about Ron Paul. Those who only watch television are misled by an agenda. You have a great message here and I can only hope, that it sweeps across the elderly, before it's too late.
A more precise comparison of Ron Paul to any past president would be to that of George Washington.
.
Washington proclaimed the US neutral in the wars raging in Europe after 1793. He avoided war with Great Britain and guaranteed a decade of peace and profitable trade by securing the Jay Treaty.
Washington's Farewell Address was an influential primer on republican virtue and a warning against partisanship, sectionalism, and involvement in foreign wars.
I already told my grandma (both of them!) I am registering her to vote, despite what the Polish news is telling her! Btw, met you in NH and wanted to say that I love your Politically Incorrect Guide to American History. I look forward to more of your books :) i am doing my part with the music, but glad you have the hard stuff covered in a way that makes it SO easy for us to all understand!
I get so frustrated by older republicans voting for these unconservative hypocrites the Party leaders are pushing and giving tax favors to news companies so they'll smooch on them, I'm apt to be in dentures before my time; I'll grind my own teeth down.
First time, that a republican is actually serious about all that cutting spending stuff and not just talking about it; proved it through his lifetime, and the GOP hates him like a trapped wild hog.
IF YOU WANT TO GET A GROUP OF GRAND MA IN A MASS..... LOOK UP THE WOMEN'S GROUP RED HATS. GREAT BUNCH OF DAMES AND THEY GATHER IN GROUPS. NOT HARD TO FIND SINCE THEY HAVE ON RED HATS ON.....
I was a warmonger, voted straight Republican party ticket for 41 yrs! Eyes opened Now!!!! Kids we old F 's have been programed all our life's. It will take time for some to come around! So remember the INTERNET is a fairly new thing 30 yrs or so. Hell all we had was 3 TV station. Was easy for TPTB to con us!!! And our generation did make the WEB! so please talk with not to old folks.
Unfortunately the Rs and Ds have convinced grandma & grandpa their social security and medicare is going away if Ron Paul gets elected. Frankly, I don't think most of them have any real conviction about leaving the posterity with the crippling debt heir generation has racked up. They'll all be gone by the time our tab is due anyways. Give geriatrics the choice of bankrupting our nation or keeping their medicare/prescriptions and I'm afraid they're almost always going to choose the latter.
@joeynyc321 Yeah, I agree. I know a lot of people who call themselves conservatives who dislike Paul due of the media's onslaught to defame Paul. If you try to go any deeper than the daily talking points, it becomes obvious that many of these people haven't had a single original thought of their own about the man.
@john420e Its a shame because what he has to say is so essential to the US development, and he is a true conservative with no corruption. If only they would open their mind and listen for 5 minutes they would realize. His intelligence is profoundly superior to any of the candidates, and has clear understanding of the system. Im just glad his message is spreading and his supporters are growing quite rapidly.
@john420e They didn't leave this debt, SS would be perfectly fine if the politicians hadn't spent all the money and when they were young they were promised again and again that they would fix the problem and never did. Most of this massive debt was built up during republican administrations, the supposedly conservatives.
@christo930 Yes they did leave the debt, I'm sorry sir or madam but I haven't collected a single penny of Medicare or Social Security benefits, and unless you're 65 years of age or above you haven't either. I'm not putting the blame on them, human nature dictates we'll always take something as long as it's free. Let's not play the blame game, both parties have been very complicit in these schemes, let's just fix the problem.
@john420e I agree that both parties have played a role, but the republicans played a larger role. Every Republican in my lifetime has increased spending exponentially while lowering taxes. From Nixon to Bush, every republican White house has spent like a drunken sailor. Granted, congress was complicent too.
@christo930 I'm not affiliated with any party, but I must say our current pres has been spending like a drunken sailor as well. Quadrupling "W's"deficit spending was quite a feat. There are exactly two political ideologies politicians (aside from Ron Paul) in D.C. subscribe to, "the welfare" and "the warfare" state. You can choose which one you support, but eventually they will both lead this country off the cliff and enslave future generations to debt indefinitely.
@john420e One of the reasons Obama's deficits got so large so quickly is because he moved a lot of spending into the budget that was "off-budget" under the Bush era. I agree the system is going to collapse at some point, but the big question is, do we want that to happen while a libertarian is president? It would blamed entirely on the libertarian view.
ron paul has inspired me to go to law school..and honestly bfore i knew ab RP I couldnt of cared less but now i want to keep learning ab the laws and which ones r constitutionally correct and which ones arent..God bless Ron Paul..God please bless America and give us Ron Paul 2012!
Has anyone given any thought as to what would happen if Ron Paul actually won the election? The entire country would collapse because it's now built around the gov. NOW, you could argue, and I would think you are right, that it would be good in the long run, but the short term consequences would be economic collapse, there would be massive deflation and then all the keynesians would say, "Look, we were right! Paul is an idiot!". We don't want to be at the wheel when the car goes over the cliff.
@christo930 Actually I don't think it would. There would be a shift from inefficient jobs performed at the behest of Government and the financial sector, which are joined at the hip, to more efficient jobs driven by new demand fueled by lower taxes. This would translate to an improving standard of living. The fact that Ron Paul continually states that he would not leave those who are dependent on the state left in the lurch indicates it would be relatively painless.
@MacksPower75 Do you honestly believe that it would be a short, painless transition? Millions and millions of people would lose their jobs, there would be massive deflation and a period of stagnation that would last for several years at minimum. Just the deflationary period would be several years, Paul would have to be elected 3 times to start to see large scale recovery. There will be MANY unforeseen consequences. The transition will be very, very painful for most of us.
@christo930 Deflation would not be the problem you imagine. We experience deflation across many goods and services all the time. It's the nature of capitalism. Why would millions and millions of jobs be lost? Other than the Great Depression, a long depression in America lasted about 5 years. We could get through it under that time if politicians stay out of the way.
@rctube1958 Falling prices due to productivity gains is not deflation. Deflation is a decrease in the money supply that drives the costs of goods and services down regardless of productivity. You won't enjoy these low prices because you won't have any money. Millions of people would lose their jobs if their job is affected by gov spending, directly or indirectly. Given that 40% of our GDP is gov spending, that amounts to a great deal of our workforce being laid off.
@christo930 By 1933, a mere 4 years after the stock market crash of 29, 1/3 of the money supply had disappeared. Markets will crash and people planning on retiring won't be able to because of their 401k being worth much less, which will make things even worse, especially for young people. You would essentially see the 2nd great depression.
@joeynyc321 Reducing the debt ceiling would require us running surpluses, what do you think the short term consequences would be? Or how about the medium term(3-5 years)?
@christo930 Surpluses? you mean that could be used for important things like uhh.. fixing the borders or having healthcare available for everyone? im not quite sure where you are getting at.
I actually did this, and it's incredible that every time I do talk to my grandma, she always changes her mind, first it was romney, then it was gingrich, then it was santorum. Every time I explained the merits of Ron Paul over all of those guys and reconvinced her, but its scary that she is so influenced by political pundits in MSM
A few questions: What is Ron Paul's stance on an increase of taxes on the wealthy? That is a very popular position right now. What does he feel about Corporate Taxes, would he be willing to increase them? Will he address corporate loopholes? Is he in favor of deregulation of the banking industry? What about big oil?
@815Sox Ron Paul wants to lower taxes on everyone, both the poor and the wealthy. Ron Paul would definitely not increase corporate taxes. However, he would likely do away with corporate loopholes if they are actually unfair. Obama spews propaganda when referring to corporate loopholes which are actually just legitimate expense deductions. Ron Paul would not only deregulate the banking industry; he would allow the free market to dismantle it and re-allocate resources properly.
@815Sox Paul will lower corporate taxes. If you take a few econ courses you'll see how corporations don't actually pay taxes and corporate taxes hurt the economy in several ways. He will close the loopholes and lower the rate. That will generate more revenue as growth will be encouraged. There will also be less regulation in general throughout the economy. Currently it costs $4T in lost productivity and direct costs just to comply.
My Grandad is a Baptist Minister, he's voting for Ron Paul and he's influencing all his friends. He loves Ron Paul. SO yeah, reaching the grandparents work! GO RON!
i've been looking at answers to why ron paul isnt winning.... this explains it all. the people that actually vote (the elderly) get all of their info from the mainstream media! and the media makes ron paul seem like the devil! please go talk to your parents and grandparents! they deserves the truth just as everyone else deserves freedom and liberty! RON PAUL 2012
TOM IS JUST SCRATCHING THE SURFACE HERE, THERE SHOULD BE A SENIOR CITIZEN SUPPORT PACKAGE DEVELOPED....WHICH WOULD BE JUST ONE OF MANY...I'M ACTUALLY WORKING TO DEVELOP THIS STUFF..

Donate toward preserving the liberties which our government has grossly perverted since the founding of our nation. Help restore our rights and freedoms.
"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Abraham Lincoln
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" Edmund Burke
We've got to do everything we can to convince the parents and the grandparents and those who just simply watch Fox News instead of looking on the internet. So many old people support Ron, mostly because they don't use the internet and research it. If all of those old people looked at all the lies and flip flops of Romney, you'd probably see Romney's numbers going down fast.
Remember: RON PAUL MONEY BOMB TOMORROW SATURDAY 14
PEOPLE NEED TO SWITCH PARTIES 12 WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF THE PRIMARIES? IN MOST STATES.
IF YOU DO NOT SWITCH IN TIME YOU CANNOT VOTE IN PRIMARY.
IF YOU ARE NOT? REGISTERED REPUBLICAN YOU CANNOT VOTE IN PRIMARY.
IF RON PAUL DOES NOT WIN PRIMARY, NO GENERAL ELECTION ! REGISTER AS A REPUBLICAN. FIND OUT WHEN YOUR STATE HAS PRIMARIES. FIND OUT WHERE AND VOTE VOTE VOTE ! PLEASE !
WE NEED EVERY LAST VOTE ! Copy and paste this everywhere
So hard trying to explain this to my parents and grandparents! Our generation understands this but to get it across without the internet and REAL stories about Paul is difficult...
People this REALLY WORKS! I just talked to my grandparents and my aunt (who is 65+). I offered to come and visit because I had to tell them something BIG is happening in my life and i did not want to discuss it over the phone. I love them to death!!! This weekend I will be explaining to them about the Constitution and where this country is going and how all this has (and still is) changing my life BIG Time. LETS DO THIS EVERYONE!!! Ron Paul 2012!
Great plan. Both of my grandparents were intending to vote for Mitt Romney without knowing anything about his views other than how he's a "strong conservative who can beat Obama". I explained Ron Paul's views as well as I can and mentioned that Ron Paul is the only person who can get enthusiastic young voters out there to bring the conservative message to the mainstream once again. I ended up getting Ron Paul two new supporters.
GETTING BACK TO TOM'S THEME HERE, NOW THAT THE AMY TROLL HAS BEEN BEATEN INTO THE GROUND:
1. OLD FOLKS DO HAVE A VOTE...THIS IS TRUE.
2. AND THEY DO HAVE VALUES..THE 65-85 GOUP WOULD HAVE BEEN BORN BETWEEN 1947 AND 1927 SO MOST OF THEM AREN'T EVEN WW2 VETS...A LOT OF THEM MATURED AS ADULTS IN THE HEY DAYS OF THE FIFTIES, WHICH WAS KIND OF A NON THINKING NONINTELLECTUAL NON COMPUTERIZED ERA.
3. MY ADVICE IS TO USE THE KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID SYSTEM...KISS, LIKE YOU'RE TALKING TO THE AMYTROLL
The biggest problem is that the campaign dropped the ball on this. They should have had a TV ad geared towards seniors right after Ron announced his economic plan which would not affect Social Security, but cut most everything else.
ITS A FUNNY THING NATURE...as Steve Jobs once said, death is an important part of the development process....a lot of old people like levin who can't get it will eventually die off, which is a good thing, some people are forever young like Ron Paul...and some people are forever stupid...like the AMYTROLL..
@RonPaulgirls Levin gets it, he's just and entertainer and a schill, much more evil than one that just doesnt get it, Bain owns a good chunk of Clear Channel and therefore Levin, Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, Savage, etc
@ThefrypodiPod Thanks, I'm all about trying to do strategic, effective things that will help people better understand libertarian philosophy and promote it though candidates like Ron Paul...I think Tom has a good idea here...I'm working on other ones as well...we all just need to keep working harder and smarter.
Something that I do, that anyone can do, is to store Ron's weekly update number (1 888 322-1414) in their phone. When you are around others, dial the number and use "Speaker" mode on your phone.
Each day the support for Ron Paul keeps growing because of All of US! :^)
I cannot believe how incredibly creative the Ron Paul campaign has been. Like him or not, but it is amazing what this man has done to get people to talk about issues.
These older generations have been brainwashed for decades. It is much more difficult to wake-up after so many years of brainwashing. But the minds in my generation are fresh and easily attracted to Ron Paul's cause of LIBERTY! Ron Paul will do great things for every generation in this country.
Ask yourself: Do I want to be part of the Liberty movement that changed the US for ever?
Or watch the today show, they talked about Romney's five houses, and showed the 5 million dollar retreat in N. Hampshire, they showed Rick Perrys million dollar house, they showed one of Gingrich's abodes, million again, then they showed Ron Paul's house, dogged him about his plants, mentioned that it was on the market for 320,000 but was only worth 280,000. Yep, I know who I am voting for, and the fucker don't own no million dollar house, much less a half dozen of them.
I have already converted 3 of my grandparents a lonnnggg while back. 1 remains and I have tried but she is a hard case. I'll still try though! Everyone else should as well.
The older folks will love Ron Paul later.Afterwards when the dollar crashes because the Fed lent out 26.6 TRILLION fake dollars to Europe and Europe lent that out to most of the third world and to failing European Nations who can't repay.Oh yea and then their pension cheques bounce and the Medicare is suspended and American cities are being hit by suicide bombers and food riots. Then they will love him like the British loved Churchill when Hitler invaded the Rhineland.Oops!
Under Ron Paul America will have a more efficiently run Military, that defends America better than the current system does, from enemies foreign and domestic.
Ron Paul plans to make sure that all people above a certain age are taken care of during their retirement, but hopes to bring in during a transition period a system where young people can opt out of making payments, and instead keep all their earnings, and spend it many times more wisely than the current government ever could.
@dimeuno I hope so.He's the only one who sees the potential nightmare scenario approaching. If the dollar is replaced as the world's reserve currency due to an overwheming debt and reckless printing of fake money then it's value could go to ,?, 10%? This alone could sink America and noone needs to fire a shot.Russia and China are in talks to do just that as we speak.Iran is drumming up support for it. Lybia tried it last year. The Iran crisis is all about the dollar.
JOIN THE REVOLUTION-TAKE BACK THE CONSTITUTION-RON PAUL 2012!!!!
I AM TAKING MY 80yr OLD MOM AND MY 90 YR. OLD FRIEND TO THE POLLS TO VOTE PAUL IN THE PRIMARY!!! If you ever want to reason with people-those over 65 will sit and talk with you. Explain your position, persuade, don't put down their opinions, don't put down their TV heroes (like Bill O'REILLY (gag!!). Just explain where Paul is coming from-write down Ron Paul's name, offer to come and get them to vote. IT WORKS...
@reginaDexant BY THE WAY, YOU BRING UP AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT, WHICH IS DRIVING PEOPLE TO THE POLLS...THIS COULD BE A VALUABLE ADDITION....YOU COULD HAVE SENIOR CITIZENS NIGHT OUT AND DONATIONS....I THINK YOU'RE ON TO SOMETHING THERE.
Great idea, Tom, but good luck. Most grandparents are completely brainwashed, as you pointed out, ignorantly clinging to the world of 1950, watching MSM. They still think Republicans are wonderful. In many ways, the trouble we are now in is entirely the fault of our grandparents and greatgrandparents. They were on duty when the FRA was enacted, the Income Tax, the Gold Seizure Act, Social Security Act, etc. Maybe employ this angle to get them to awaken and atone for their sins.
They were busy building this country, no Web, so cut some slack ;-)) Hell my grt Granddad, built the firt radio in Iowa farm area, put in 1st telephone co. in his town. Family been here since 1788.
So i don't blame them! Build on what they started!!! and thank them!!!
Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.
@Amyls64 levin is a fucking moron..you must be pretty dimwitted and ignorant, if you think he's smart....he represents you're typical dirt stupid senior citizen trash...even though he's 20 years younger than Ron Paul, he's a decrepit physical and mental mess
@RonPaulgirls Im not spelling out anything for you asshole. Im not running for President. Ron PAul is . His plan is liberty, drugs ,illegal immigrat , allowing states to kill babies. I dont have to admit anything to you Bitch.
@Amyls64 Depends on how you define conservative. If u define it as representative of the current bankster oligarchy then ron is not. If u define it as representative of the spirit of our Constitution then Ron is the only conservative candidate. Semantics.
@milo476 No Ron Paul is very liberal on immigration. He is a not a conservative. He is against a border fence. And also he is not a representative of our constitution . IF he was he would make sure that Unborn babies are protected under the right to life clause.especially that he thinks that life starts at conception. Hes a hypocrit on this issue. ALSO ..He does not the eligibility of Obama is an issue. SO He DOES NOT represent the constitution IMO
@Amyls64 He knows that a fence isn't going to solve the problem any more than drones would. He follows the rule of law, and the law states that unborn babies are not defined as humans having a right to life: he's trying to change that. He also doesn't pander to the nutjobs that keep blathering about make-believe issues.
@Amyls64 Ron Paul wants to effectively repeal Roe vs Wade and turn abortion over to the states. He favors a "sanctity of life act" defining life beginning at conception.
He would enforce our current immigration laws, much more than any globalist would do.
@Amyls64 Sanctity of life act = recurring bill reintroduced in congress in 2005 by Ron Paul defining human life and legal personhood as beginning at conception
@milo476 Ok So if ROn Paul thinks that life starts at Conception( ANd I believe that too) then why would he leave that up to the states if in the constitution it says that everyone has the right to Life!
@Amyls64 Because the sanctity of life act has died in committee each time, it was reintroduced in 2011.....BY RON PAUL and will probably die in committee again. So he wants to BOTH fight it on a federal level, and failing that turn it over to the states.
@Amyls64 You can research that yourself, if you're serious. Point is the President's only hand in legislation is veto power and Paul would be on the anti-abortion side there. The President's job is to enforce the laws passed by Congress. Ron Paul would actually do this, really. Who is it that u support for president?
@Amyls64 Gardasil Rick?, the Bilderberg invitee who supported the NAFTA superhighway and forced innoculations?...you're a globalist and shouldnt vote in national elections.
@milo476 What do you know about the bilderbergs, I have to admit I know nothing. But I suspect a lot of what i hear is a a bunch of propaganda. I think Rick is the only experienced Candidate up there to be honest. Ron Paul certainly has no experience.. Voting Yay or Nay is not experience.
@Amyls64 Well, Grandma, since you dont support freedom, we'll just let the Medicarisites at the Nursing Home decide what's best for u from now on. They're the ones with the experience. Since u support Perry giving those little girls Gardisil, I guess I was wrong to keep the home from pumping u full of drugs, so i'm giving up my power of attorney for u.
@Amyls64 Grandma, do you really want to go stand in line at the polls at your age? Why dont u just let me fill out this absentee ballot for u. There ya go, sign here.
@Amyls64 Amy, Rick Perry is the scourge of Texas. Mister small government, deregulation Perry last June signed into law regulations for owners of intact dogs for the first time ever. Among the requirements are background checks for anyone who comes in contact with the dogs. Unannounced inspections of their homes, (no requirement that anyone be present during the inspection - what are they going to do, break in?) Minimum U.S.D.A. rules. Know anyone with a drain in their living room floor?
@Amyls64 You got it partially right. His plan is liberty. Liberty and smaller government. Drugs? If he legalizes crack tomorrow, will you start using it? Then stfu. No, seriously. You might desire a baby-sitter government, but I don't.
This is genius. It leverages the power of the grassroots, and those one-on-one interpersonal relationships where politics plays out in the real world. It's the free market of ideas and it bypasses the anti-Paul media.
I remember Sarah Silverman doing this to help Obama among the elder demographic in 2008. She spoke of talking to nana (your grandmother). Hey, Sarah, how's that hope & change workin' for you? Do you like your new wars, indefinite detention, and crashing economy?
i only wish my grandparents were still here....I'd love to talk with Pop about Dr. Paul...Pop was raised a dem who turned repub later in life...he was a self-employed barber who loved to talk politics
call the local voters registration office of your grandparents they will send out absentee ballots also you can go online to your states site and print and send into the local office a ballot ..ballots have to be returned by the wednesday before the tuesday election..keep up the good work ... ron paul 2012 !!
I am starting to build up so much hate for the older generations and their failures. These people have failed us in nearly every way people can, and now they'll fail us one more time.
"The greatest generation" - Give me a fricken break. JFK was murdered right in front of these sheep and they didn't do damn thing.
@FreedomsReigning Don't feel that way, back when Our parents were young they trusted the goverment. I know what you are saying but things have changed , people were over all good when they were gowing up.
Make sure you can vote in the Republican primary. Some states only let registered Republicans vote in the Republican primary. If you can't vote in the primary, you will get what you deserve for not paying attention.
I'm 50, my parents are in their 70's and my next door neighbor is 85. We are all voting for RP. Plus, I sent this to my daughter so she can forward it to her friends. This is an excellent video to motivate kids to talk to their families with purpose.
@theoremaxim Comments like that almost bring a tear to my eye. I hope people more than buy into Ron Paul the person and buy into his ideas as well. Ive bought books, ive ran for local government, and im trying to spread these ideas. And i hope more people take action too.
Ask your Grandparents if they remember what was going on 20 or 40 yrs. ago. Let them tell you about what they remember, get them to recall politics or the president at the time. The ask them if they know that Dr. Ron Paul was:
+ earning a Doctor of Medicine degree from Duke University's School of Medicine in 1961,
+ serving his country as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1965 and then in the United States Air National Guard from 1965 to 1968. ...and so on.
@nicko978 Glad to hear that! Wish Pauls numbers would go up in sc, being that theres alot of military families I assumed he would do better there then 4th place. I dont want mitt to win another one
My grandparents are deceased but tried talking to my mom whos a democrat and she hates when I talk politics and refuses to listen, as for step dad hes republican but he stold me all politicians are same, then he tried saying he doesnt trust RP hes that mormon guy and when I said no youre thinking of romney he was like no thats ron paul. Wtf?i cant get through to either of them
@libertarian4lyfe Use the pity party with your mom...Tell her she raised you well enough to pay attention to what matters for your future as well as her grandkids. Put up information around their house, or repeat yourself until you're blue in the face...Don't give up. It's worth it! I constantly make my mom mad, but I believe people think more when their angry, and I know she won't disown me over politics.
Seniors will be the hardest to convince because they will not vote for anyone that may threaten their entitlements (SS and Medicare), even if it's obvious that at sometime in the future all gov't programs will go bankrupt. It's still natural for someone to cling to their subsidy even if it burdens others, which is why spending is so hard to cut. They need to be shown that these programs are insolvent and only Dr. Paul has a plan that protects current recipients.
A good way to break the ice is asking about the high inflation that was going on in the 70's. I would think that Ron Paul's economic message would be a big hit with people living on fixed incomes and social security. High inflation hurts people on fixed incomes the most.

Most of this massive debt was built up during republican administrations, the supposedly conservatives.
christo930 1 month ago
@christo930 Yes they did leave the debt, I'm sorry sir or madam but I haven't collected a single penny of Medicare or Social Security benefits, and unless you're 65 years of age or above you haven't either. I'm not putting the blame on them, human nature dictates we'll always take something as long as it's free. Let's not play the blame game, both parties have been very complicit in these schemes, let's just fix the problem.
john420e 1 month ago
@john420e I agree that both parties have played a role, but the republicans played a larger role. Every Republican in my lifetime has increased spending exponentially while lowering taxes. From Nixon to Bush, every republican White house has spent like a drunken sailor. Granted, congress was complicent too.
christo930 1 month ago
@christo930 I'm not affiliated with any party, but I must say our current pres has been spending like a drunken sailor as well. Quadrupling "W's"deficit spending was quite a feat. There are exactly two political ideologies politicians (aside from Ron Paul) in D.C. subscribe to, "the welfare" and "the warfare" state. You can choose which one you support, but eventually they will both lead this country off the cliff and enslave future generations to debt indefinitely.
john420e 1 month ago
@john420e One of the reasons Obama's deficits got so large so quickly is because he moved a lot of spending into the budget that was "off-budget" under the Bush era. I agree the system is going to collapse at some point, but the big question is, do we want that to happen while a libertarian is president? It would blamed entirely on the libertarian view.

We don't want to be at the wheel when the car goes over the cliff.
christo930 1 month ago
@christo930 Actually I don't think it would. There would be a shift from inefficient jobs performed at the behest of Government and the financial sector, which are joined at the hip, to more efficient jobs driven by new demand fueled by lower taxes. This would translate to an improving standard of living. The fact that Ron Paul continually states that he would not leave those who are dependent on the state left in the lurch indicates it would be relatively painless.
MacksPower75 1 month ago
@MacksPower75 Do you honestly believe that it would be a short, painless transition? Millions and millions of people would lose their jobs, there would be massive deflation and a period of stagnation that would last for several years at minimum. Just the deflationary period would be several years, Paul would have to be elected 3 times to start to see large scale recovery. There will be MANY unforeseen consequences. The transition will be very, very painful for most of us.
christo930 1 month ago
@christo930 Deflation would not be the problem you imagine. We experience deflation across many goods and services all the time. It's the nature of capitalism. Why would millions and millions of jobs be lost? Other than the Great Depression, a long depression in America lasted about 5 years. We could get through it under that time if politicians stay out of the way.
rctube1958 1 month ago
@rctube1958 Falling prices due to productivity gains is not deflation. Deflation is a decrease in the money supply that drives the costs of goods and services down regardless of productivity. You won't enjoy these low prices because you won't have any money. Millions of people would lose their jobs if their job is affected by gov spending, directly or indirectly. Given that 40% of our GDP is gov spending, that amounts to a great deal of our workforce being laid off.
christo930 1 month ago
@christo930 By 1933, a mere 4 years after the stock market crash of 29, 1/3 of the money supply had disappeared. Markets will crash and people planning on retiring won't be able to because of their 401k being worth much less, which will make things even worse, especially for young people. You would essentially see the 2nd great depression.
christo930 1 month ago
@christo930 His change wont be as dramatic and radical as you suspect, i believe it will work out when the debt ceiling gradually becomes lower.
joeynyc321 1 month ago
@joeynyc321 Reducing the debt ceiling would require us running surpluses, what do you think the short term consequences would be? Or how about the medium term(3-5 years)?
christo930 1 month ago
@christo930 Surpluses? you mean that could be used for important things like uhh.. fixing the borders or having healthcare available for everyone? im not quite sure where you are getting at.

RON PAUL SUPPORTERS CAN'T EXPLAIN THIS: watch?v=1qhQ5bwuPKg
32whatsup 1 month ago
A few questions: What is Ron Paul's stance on an increase of taxes on the wealthy? That is a very popular position right now. What does he feel about Corporate Taxes, would he be willing to increase them? Will he address corporate loopholes? Is he in favor of deregulation of the banking industry? What about big oil?
815Sox 1 month ago
@815Sox Ron Paul wants to lower taxes on everyone, both the poor and the wealthy. Ron Paul would definitely not increase corporate taxes. However, he would likely do away with corporate loopholes if they are actually unfair. Obama spews propaganda when referring to corporate loopholes which are actually just legitimate expense deductions. Ron Paul would not only deregulate the banking industry; he would allow the free market to dismantle it and re-allocate resources properly.
ecnerwal999 1 month ago
@815Sox Paul will lower corporate taxes. If you take a few econ courses you'll see how corporations don't actually pay taxes and corporate taxes hurt the economy in several ways. He will close the loopholes and lower the rate. That will generate more revenue as growth will be encouraged. There will also be less regulation in general throughout the economy. Currently it costs $4T in lost productivity and direct costs just to comply.

For Liberty.
Vote Ron Paul!

LOCAL MEDIA IS KEY TO REACHING THE OLDER FOLKS
1. Write a letter to a local newspaper
2. Call in to a local radio station
3. Contact local tv to do a story
