  • i am bout to convert to linux but frist im trying to figure out if it is conpatable wit my favorite programs i use like, fl studio , itunes , real player , sony vegas pro ,winrar , winff , cool edit pro , bittorrent , k - lite , avast , adobe products , and most inportant my netgear wireless usb wi fi adapter . if u can anwser any of my question plezz do so .And im wourding what programs linux use for music , and other tasks related to features i use so i can research them befour i be consern

  • @piaaMRBASS No.

  • @piaaMRBASS You might get some of those running with Wine, but you don't need all of the programs you mentioned. Avast isn't important, Transmissions is a nice bittorrent client and File Roller replaces Winrar easily.

  • I've just heard about Fedora and I wanna make one question: does it have the same gaming support as Linux - Ubuntu?

  • I am so happy to meet Fedora .So good it is!!

  • Fedora is awesome .. Its specially for Experts not for begineers. Ubuntu is based for begineers .

  • Whenever I'm trying to install this I'm getting a "dracut Warning: No root device" error. Can't seem to get around it either.

  • @SomethingGodAwful thats why we use google

  • LXDE++

  • So there is no task bar? If I minimize a window where does it go? it just disappears in to the dash?

  • @axeell92 no u go into the activities thing in the upper left hand corner and then all of the open applications are listed there

  • My biggest mistake upgrade my f14 to f16. Ridicules desktop theme. I removed and install f14.

  • This version crashed on me after a few hours of use. Also, am i missing something or is there really no software center!?

  • @Jonedcc going into all applications...add and remove software is the equivalent of the Ubuntu Software center...not as pretty but it is the same thing

  • well , i used it , and i didnt like it .. the best till now is opensuse 12.1 .. but thanks so much for that video.

  • This Distribution is the greatest, stupid, colour-less Linux-Shit inclusive GNOME 3, which I`ve got ever testet. I cleanuped the OS 2 houres later and installed PinguyOS 10.x/ 64-bit. I use successfull PinguyOS since 4 month.

This Gnome 3 will drive again the WALL. I hope, PinguyOS won`t jump on the GNOME3-Horse-shit.

  • I find it so stupid that the governments of almost every single I land in the world uses BILLIONS on windows every single friggin year. Imagine how much money could have been saved...

  • Doesn't 5:38 just copy Mac OSX's "Spaces"?

  • @pgeske Mac copied Linux. You've been able to do this on Linux for ages.

  • @xxblueheartxx oh. nevermind then..

  • @pgeske ya the mac os is linux-based

  • @naveenc69 unix based not linux based

  • @LeonardoDBarbosaG oh.... wait didn't linux originally come from unix?

  • i want to install this but can i still play games like cs or gta4

  • @monkeh88 if you download wine (which is free) then yes, you can

  • @monkeh88 only under WINE (a windows emulator) but some things can get a little buggy and slow. If your really care about games you should dual-boot.

  • Wut is this shit ?

  • guys pls pls pls join this group on fb n solve my probs n get ur probs solution as well

  • I didn't get Fedora 15 just because it's incompatible with my AMD graphics card = (

  • They may make a bunch of different cool looking operating systems, but Windows will always be the most used and the most popular.

  • @FinalOmega97 Its good. We get to keep linux for ourselves.

  • So, is this pretty similar to Windows? Or is it at least easy to get the hang of?

  • @popflickcatchland Although it's not very like windows, this distro is easy to use one you've learned the basic stuff. If your looking for a more windows type OS i'd try Linux Mint.

  • @Nijokaz Could I access my applications and files I already had with windows? I have XP, for what it's worth.

  • @popflickcatchland No. Windows applications aren't compatible with linux. To access your files you'll have to back up to a portable hard drive.

  • @Nijokaz You are completely wrong. @popflickcatchland you can install linux side-by-side Windows, or "duel boot" and from linux you can access your windows files. Now, most windows applications won't work on linux, but you can use Crossover or Wine to help that. However, you can't access linux files from windows.

  • @harrypotter1479 I am not "completely wrong" I said windows apps weren't compatible with linux and that is true. Wine only emulates and for most programs it doesn't do it very well. Popflickcatchland evidently is a noobish user (no offence meant to him) he wouldn't now how to partition his hard drive properly.

  • @Nijokaz what would you want to emulate on a linux box if you are dual booting anyway? I do all my application, daily things in linux and game in windows :/

  • @cacophony1

    Wine

    Is

    Not An

    Emulator

  • Why does it lags a lot? Is it heavy on resources?

  • @kerayzey He's running it on virtualbox. So it's not a proper install. Thats why it lags.

  • You can have this gnome shell bullshit, I had rather just click applications and launch my program with 2 clicks of the mouse.

Both fedora and ubuntu are going down the toilet with this nonsense.

  • @skilo1983 so set up a dock and click once, and open up your applications. Honestly, it's not nearly as complex as smashing two rocks together.

  • @skilo1983 Thats while i'll being sticking with linux mint

  • Can You Post The Link To Download This

  • Video mounted and uploaded with windows live movie maker.

  • dose all Windows software work with Fedora 15.I want to install all my windows software such as Majicjack. DVDFab. or other goodies will it work wonderful.or is it not compatible with all.........64 bit I wanted to try. is 64 bit compatible with every thing

  • Good review. I sort of see the why some of the features I didn't like; might be attractive to others after this review. I still don't care for this particular distro. For me, Gnome 3 feels more like the iPod menu: you hit the menu button, everything is alphabetical. It feels lazy, yet more like work. I LOVED how fast 15 loads. The did some speed ups. I would have kept it, but "throw back" mode to simulate 2.x felt like the rape of Gnome. I went back to 14 and 2.x.

  • I tried linux mint, ubuntu, suse before i tried Fedora, and in comparing the other distro's I really love this distribution! Don't want to change or try another, because Fedora does everything i want.

  • SO Fedora 15 or Ubuntu 11.10 64- Bit for both. Which would you chose as a primary desktop OS.

  • @tenchidbz Well... Unity just got a new update making it very stable, and it has an "APP Store", making it very easy to find application. from my biased point of view, Ubuntu.

  • One of the best overviews of gnome 3, thank you for the review^^

  • where do you buy a linux computer?

  • @crustygymshorts You don't. It doesn't exist. Linux is free, you download from the website and burn to CD and install, there are many types of Linux like Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Backtrack (some shit hacker copy :) ), etc...

  • @Ithrilian can you install on both a pc and a mac?

  • @crustygymshorts You got a complete tutorial on ubuntu.com

  • @crustygymshorts ubuntu.com There is a complete tutorial, don't ask me how to install Fedora, because it's the same as ubuntu installation. Just follow the tutorial. Fedora looks awesome, by the way, I never used it.

  • @Ithrilian ok thanks

  • @crustygymshorts You don't. You download and burn the distro's to a DVD, or buy a Linux distro DVD and install it on a computer.

  • @PassiveEngine That's not entirely true, a few brands are starting to offer linux pre-installed (for free)... Dell being one of them

  • @Kue57 I know it isn't entirely true. It'd be better for him to learn about doing the hard work himself though.

  • haha you edit that at the windows move maker

  • @ClopClap Thats Linux for you.

  • lol it looks lika a mac

  • @underground958 Mac was built on linux.... (in short) The difference is Mac is is closed source, not very expandable, and very expensive....

  • @TheSealed Mac was built on BSD UNIX. No linux code was involved.

  • @TheSealed Your both wrong MAC is as close to linux as Minux is or a BSD it was produced from the MACH kernel From Unix and brached a different way from BSD who also used MACH neither OSX or BSD still depend on it or update it as they are two unix like clone branches. MAC used that for Nextstep then Openstep til finally Darwin AKA OSX.Linux is more of a conglomeration of GNU, some minux made monolithic and written mostly in assembly. BSD is the true pure unix clone if there was one.

  • @CookieW95 mac is shit though...

  • Fedora for life.

  • Interesting watch.

I'm thinking about switching from Ubuntu to Fedora and this video review of Gnome 3 might be enough for me to take the plunge.

  • @CougarRand God I hate Gnome and never liked Fedora, I consider Ubuntu switching guis a positive.

  • So I've recently installed Fedora 15 and I dont know why my fedora doesnt look as amazing as your fedora. I dont have the "Activities" tab, I dont have any side bars, Its actually kind of bland as compared to ubuntu which I love. Maybe I need to install something to get it to look as cool as you show it? IDK let me know what you do to get yours to have all the tabs, side bars and icons like that please?

  • I have used fedora since f10 and have not had a crash, mac osx crashes onve a month...

  • this is RAM eater anyway,it use 1 GB RAM

  • this is RAM eater anyway

  • They should add option for ANY screen corner to bring up the launcher screen, or even mouse click on the desktop. I hope they kept mousewheel scroll for desktop switching. Mousewheel scroll on screen edge would be nice.

  • They're not copying anyone? Who gives a fuck, copy Apple, I'm not going to wear it! On the other hand, System settings looks like an ugly copy of apple's system settings. Keep alt pressed for shut down? how can you know that? why don't you keep the mouse pressed for 12 seconds. who shuts down? I do, 35 times a day! Nice soft glow? WTF, how about hardware support, drivers and updates, security, applications support!?! Change the title man, this is not a Fedora 15 review !....

  • @ermalkoci Just because you mentioned it, the hardware support. I still didn't try Fedora, but in Mint, hardware support is very good. The key is to choose a mobo which isn't the latest model, aka seek for a model 1 year before (so the last distro could fully support it). For example I have chosen an MSI 760GM-E51 which is supported out of the box. And it gets up to 4X amd cpus :)

  • I like Fedora 15, but font rendering is not so good. Does anyone know how to get better font rendering?

  • can this version run exe.'s

  • @tman45005 Any version can run with WINE / PlayOnLinux, otherwise no, why would a Linux system run Winshit software?

  • Thanks a great and informative video. I've been using ubuntu 11.04, mint 11 and Pinguy 11.04. This seems completely different so I'm going to give it a go in virtualbox or live distro.

  • Omg so many nerds...O.o

  • I can't get this to work on my Dell XPS L502x whenever I boot into it I get this error:

2.936895] [drm:intel_dsm_platform_mux_info] *ERROR* MUX INFO call failed

    Dropping to debug shell.

sh can't access tty; job control turned off

    dracut:/#

  • Unity isn't "just built on GTK2", in Ubuntu 11.10 it's GTK3. It was designed with GTK3 in mind. Gnome Shell looks pretty neat (very similar to Unity!), I'll definitely be giving it a go when I update to Ubuntu.

  • Lol, the first thing i did when i insdtalled Fedora 15 was Removing Gnum and installing KDE :D

  • This is my second time using a Live USB of Fedora 15, and I kind of fell in love with it and Gnome 3 here.

Is there still really a Desktop anymore or would you have to go into the folders and go to Desktop? I use Ubuntu Linux 11.04 (& Windows and Mac) and I think that this new UI is pretty awesome.

  • Suspend encourages the ignorant "computer petrolheads" to continue consuming massive amounts of power for up to a whole day or more. This should be removed on the grounds of greenness.

  • PENIS

  • @MindzEnt yes you like penis

  • @TheCOB98 penis?

  • Great review dude. I'm glad there are others out there with an opinion about gnome 3 thats not a bashing circlejerk. Gnome-shell is polished and a pleasure to use.

People say its not customizable or that its locked down are full of shit. gnome-tweak-tool + extensions there are plenty of tweaking to be had.

  • i love linux but i also love gaming ...:(

  • i was wondering, what would you say are your top 3 linux distros, and your top 5 system softwares all over the board

and i think that linux is finally becoming a real competitor against mac and windows, but i think i would still go for windows atm, because of all the pre-installed software, the general all over the board support for most programs, the technical and customer support and such. but id say, in maybe a year or 2, linux will become as possible. what do you think?

  • @bigmwhite While I respect your opinion, Oracle, Red Hat, Intel, AMD, Toyota, and an assortment of about 30 other companies all financially back and provide development code for Linux. 4 billion phones run Linux, 413 supercomputers run Linux, and we wouldn't have Facebook, Twitter, Google, or Amazon without Linux. So although only 2.25% of everyday PCs run Linux, Linux has a future, and probably will have for a very long time to come. Thumb up if you agree! :-)

  • @InfinitelyGalactic ,your 2.25% is way high, unless you have a url to back it up. Last I knew it was .8%.

StatOwl seems to disagree, so where are you grabbing that stat ?

No comment on other stats as I've not googled it. I just know that the only linux I might use , itself uses patent encumbered code, so why bother . There are too many distros, hence fragmentation is rampant, no matter how good the core is. Most I've tried, Im sorely disappointed in, and Ubuntu noway due to mono.

  • @InfinitelyGalactic ,

Your 2.25% is way high, unless you have a url to back it up. Last I knew it was .8%.

StatOwl seems to disagree quite a bit with your stat. No comment on other stats as I've not googled it. I just know that the only linux I might use , itself uses patent encumbered code, so why bother . Linux is not ready for primetime , and I have tried them all. I admire linux and its license, but business wont take it serious as its too fragmented for desktop.

  • @leebojammin Sure, if you go to wikipedia slash Usage_share_of_operating_systems that will give you the 2.25%, I completely understand your opinion regarding Linux, and in many ways I agree, but its versatility makes it a valuable resource in the ever expanding world of devices. Peace :-)

  • @leebojammin

the actual data according to w3schools(DOT)com who is been monitoring this since 2003, on 2011 the percent of Linux OS accessing web site is 5.2%

  • @InfinitelyGalactic 4 Billion phones? May i ask what's your source?

  • @Rojaslolol The 4 billion phones comes from the linux foundation's 20th birthday poster, which btw gives some other useful stats.

  • @InfinitelyGalactic A url would be nice, and I presume it will have reliable stats to back it up ?

  • @InfinitelyGalactic Well as I see it, given that android has linux behind it and given how well linux on desktop has not done, Ill stick for forseeable future with windows &/or mac. Im not sticking my neck out for a fragmented base, anytime soon. It's not smart business. It might be for servers of course, but not desktops, and not anytime soon. That could happen, but it won't be literally for yeaaaaaaars, if at all; and only if the 'base' get get behind ONE core. Mac has done it, but linux ?

  • @InfinitelyGalactic I completely agree!

Also without Linux, there would not be an Internet at all.

  • @bigmwhite hahaha, such a very ignorant statement.

  • @anime891 No, you are ignorant for having such a childish angry response. How about posting something with substance instead of calling poster ignorant. That is the problem with Linux.

  • @leebojammin What's angry? I just simply pointed out your stupidity. First of all if it wasn't for Linux we wouldn't have the software we use for either Windows or Mac. Linux is the basis for most or all the code that's out there today.

  • Dude what are you talking about ... Android is written on Linux, MAC is underlying UNIX, problem is in easy life ... everyone love sweet icons, fonts and desktop .. go a step further .. Linux is for u ...

I don't know why I always call Linux as Linuz ... it is in genetics :)

Try it once with open mind .. I was also little skeptical but this it got over me soon

  • @nkhullar1 , and that is why android SUFFERS from fragmentation of apps that work one way on one android device , and totally different ( or does not work at all) on another..JUST like linux. You can keep it, while everyone else goes with iphone, from a proven innovator, in mac. Mac is on the rise, because it has ONE desktop...repeat ONE desktop, and it excels in it. Yes I know about unix, but its HOW you use something. Linux is fragmented; its pointless and you know it. That is a shame though.

  • @leebojammin Buddy with all due respects do you know what is fragmentation? Do you know, fragmentation is key problem with All OS?

And dear xyz lover .. I am one who makes his own laptop .. and trust me making laptop or iphone or ios is not a great science ...Iphone didn't have multitasking to avoid fragments ..

You have to understand terms before using them!

Fragmentation is costly no doubt ... but do u understand what cost I am talking abt

    - Frm 3rd world Nation (For America) N.K

  • @nkhullar1 that is SUCH nonsense..windows is KING atm, and its not fragmented, so YES I DO KNOW what fragmentation is, and apparently you do NOT.

  • @leebojammin :) ... little knowledge and half filled vessels are same .. they make equal noise! enjoy!

  • @leebojammin I am sorry if blabbered too much I normally don't type / write / talk too much .. u have ur choice ..be happy .. but trust me u can also make tablet ... think a step beyond what others say

  • @leebojammin And you still don't understand the concept of Linux. Linux is very good for coding software, which is why it's a free OS that's still doing business today. Everything is accessible through Linux. Hackers and software engineers wouldn't have the jobs they have today if it wasn't for Linux. Mac and Windows are not as versatile either. Windows and Mac as more user friendly because it's for the public as opposed to Linux which is more for people that have knowledge of computer science.

  • @anime891

actually my wife never studied computer science, and she prefers linux mint over windows and always wants linux instead of windows on any new machines she gets.

Linux is just better than windows fundamentally, it's just makes more sense when you look at the internals of Linux as opposed to windows.... However I still use windows 7 for gaming purposes.

  • @revanux Of course there will be others that would prefer the Linux interface regardless of their credentials, but Linux favors those who know any knowledge of code.

  • @bigmwhite

While windows and mac may be better(Im a Pc)

sometimes you get bored of windows and want to try out something new more interesting

And You dont have to pay to use it

AND you can use it to fix WINDOWS when it crashes

  • @MrELstatic Don't forget you can also use it to fix OSx if it crashes(it does Apple just doesn't like to admit it).

  • @dude00074

    True

I just installed fedora today and damm ITS NICE

I bet windows needs to get back going if he dosent want too loose its people to fedora

And im just doing it for the looks

I just set the default Boot Too Fedora

SUCK THAT WINDOWS(In the inside im still a PC) But still Fu windows

i mean if we remove the visual style from windows 7, its like where left with windows 2000 nothing has changed

Sorry for writting soo much, I got carried away!!!!

  • damm NICE interface i love how all the apps are in Icons

I always love the way an os looks and not on stability

    I am an Eyecandy

  • @bigmwhite

Hey, I just picked up Linux after 10 years of solely using Windows. A friend of mine showed me Ubuntu in high school. 3 years later, I fell in love with Ubuntu 11.04.

I think that the more user friendly Linux becomes, the bigger influx you'll see of people coming to Linux from Windows and Mac. You really can't pass up a good OS that's easy to use and also is FREE.

Simply put, Linux peoples need to advertise Linux more. Word of mouth goes a long ways. :)

  • @bigmwhite RIGHT!

  • @bigmwhite Mac Lion is just now doing shit Ubuntu and other distros were doing 2 years ago

  • Thanks, you convinced me to try out Fedora. It looks like it would be a good choice for me. One question though, people say that Fedora has an issue with codecs for files such as .mp3s. Has Fedora resolved this issue in this version, or is it still difficult to do? Doing so with OpenSuse was easy, but it is a common question for me considering music is an important part of any hard disk of mine... :)

  • @EpicIsBrady It's a fairly simple matter of adding a repo called 'RPM Fusion' then you can get all the codecs you could ever want. Google around and you'll find some easy documentation to help you out. :-)

  • @InfinitelyGalactic Thanks for the help, I installed Fedora, and am LOVING it right now. I got all my codecs and essentials like that. Cheers.

  • @EpicIsBrady No worries...enjoy!

  • I have used Ubuntu for some time now as a kind of starting point in linux OSes but i have never been so happy with it that i could stop having Windows as a fallback solution. Maybe Fedora can finally cut it now. Thanks for this review!

  • Fantastic review, thanks for making this video. I'll definitely try Fedora 15, GNOME 3 (and shell) does look great. Very useful video.

  • Does it support intel gma 500 :)

  • @holako80 Generally, Linux support of Intel integrated graphics is pretty good as they are open-source drivers built straight into the kernel.

  • Fedora 15 with Gnome 3, has to be the best version of linux I'v ever used ! Well done gnome developers :)

  • i have installed fedora on macbookpro, wont boot up without live cd. any help?

  • hey mates i have a problem when i try to install fedora on my virtual box is it posible to install ???

  • why so laggy???

  • @ibilija VirtualBox :-)

  • agree the throw-mouse-to-corner seems laborious, can it be activated from any corner ? or do mouse-wheel desktop switching ? perhaps they should make it so the launchers/desktops be brought up form screen edges. Perhaps with a multitouch trackpad gesture as per mac it would be faster

  • Well done. I ran Fedora 15 for a couple of days, I like it a lot; however, my core temp on my laptop was averaging 85-90 deg. cel.

I am back to using Debian 6 for now.

  • i'm new to Linux which one do you recommend for me this one or the Ubuntu 11.04??

    Thanks and Regards

  • @spartan99947 it's a matter of what you like but i would say ubuntu as it is more popular and is one of the easiest distros to learn with all the support software center etc...

  • I love fedora 15, but why does gnome 3 have to be such a shit pile :|. AwesomeWM here I come.

  • why do I get the feeling that Apple is going to use some of these features here soon..they already did the multiple desktops..lets see what else they use...and yes I own both Mac and PC so I don't want no smart ass remarks

  • Is it possible to install this on a new internal laptop hard drive and get the laptop or pc to boot up with just this operating system and not even have to install any windows operating system?

  • @MYBIGKINDHEART Yup, you just have to select that option in the installation wizard.

  • i have used ubuntu sense 9.04, i don't like the way ubuntu is going, going to be a shame to see it go

  • Hi! can I know what software do u use for the screen video capture in the making of this video?

  • If you logout, your get a option at the bottom to make it look classic, less mouse clicks to get to programs :D....thank me later

  • Very good review of Gnome 3.0 and Fedora 15. Favorited :)

  • i downloaded it today, i have always used windows but my windows 7 pc recently has crashed on a daily basis and blue screen. Bye Bye Microsoft, no more grip on me!

  • oooooh, Linux features a calculator..... Windows 7 is no match for Open Source technology!

  • review of gnome 3 not fedora

  • @nemis123 Not to much new to Fedora to go over besides Gnome 3

  • wow linux looks awesome

  • This is what I like about Linux, you are running it on a Vitual PC and still runs very fast!

  • my computer should do anything, not limit me. It shouldn't force me to compute in a specific way. i want my programs available within a set space and less than 3 clicks away. I would love an option to change to gnome 2 at login. until we get that, or until 3 progresses to the point where it easy to use, i'l be on kde.

  • as of this point in its development, i hate gnome 3. i used to be a gnome user because it was less flashy than kde and more refined than pretty much anything else. my biggest gripe is the assumptions. "who shuts down" "who uses multiple windows" I DO! if the buttons are already coded in, why aren't they easily accessible. why do i need to press alt to shutdown? why isn't it just in the menu? Who looked at Gnome 2 and thought it would be better without a minimize button?

  • @goodcheesema too true... power off button is essential

  • installation failed on the last stage and give a warn message, something about filesystem, that it is incorrect and advice me to reboot to rescue mode, but there is no rescue mode in menubar in load menu

  • @CAHTEXHUK55 That's weird because I had the same issue when I tried to install it to an external HDD. Don't know what it's about...just another weird bug...

  • @CAHTEXHUK55 I would suggest making 2 new partitions on your new system install. first partition is a ext 3 or ext 4 to support journalism in case you encounter an error. make this partition size at least 81gs (60gb is minimum, but to be safe make it 81gb) Then make a second partition swap for at least 4gb. This is your page file. make sure on the boot menu that you add at "/" in that field.

  • @MrGhostphone i selected default settings durin
