The amount of paper reminds me of the "green" conference my dad's work held. They had little bottles of Fiji water. Erm... yep. All that plastic and shipping the water all the way from Fiji, way to be environmentally friendly... *cough*
They did have this nifty little RFID namebadges for everyone and all the exhibitors had websites. No paper needed. I got zapped a few times for followup emails and admit to picking up business cards.
They have those solar powered trash cans downtown in Chicago. I always thought they looked cool and all, but I don't see why a trash can would need power?
Harvesting rain is also important on coastal islands in New England, it is an major source of potable water.
In America, we have an overabundance of fresh water, I'm glad to start emphasizing conservation. This could have a much bigger impact in Africa/India/Bangladesh/etc.
I was there as part of the local architects'convention. Funny thing is I studied this stuff in the '70s and it's making a comeback. Which is a good thing.
Speaking of sh*t, I saw several composting/no water toilets too.
you sure do travel alot!! . . . . enjoyed this

That's all really neat.

The neat part is that the cans can hold a lot of trash (it's compacted) and tell a central command when they are full.

Oh! That is really neat then! Thanks for explaining that to me.

How are you supposed to maintain your roof? Interesting!

They suggest mosses and low growth plants, but I don't know how to avoid windbourne seeds.

Very awesome. Very Nerdfightery.
Though the amount of paper was rather disturbing.
Rain harvesting? Having a rainwater tank here in Australia is kind of an expected.
Thanks again -Debbie
