My pony has lamonites, please help me, he means everything to me and he is slowly going mad being in the stable(he is VERY energetic) What can i do to help PLEASE help if you no ANYTHING.thankyou.
This video made me cry, because my horse was diagnosed with laminitis a couple days ago! But I have hope after watching what your Oliver went through and then have him come out the other side like he did. Thanks.
Glad to know that Oliver is recovering. My horse's laminitis happened because he is most likely Cushing's and Insulin Resistant. He got fat very quickly on good pasture, and we had a hard frost when he was outside overnight. He's doing well now, nearly recovered. I don't know if you can get it in the UK, but look into Recovery EQ. I saw a dramatic difference in just two weeks, and no horse I ever own will be without it. Great stuff.
We compete in Endurance - hardest discipline of all and all my horses are barefoot. My stallion covers mares & competes yet eats only 1 kilo of grain feed a day. The rest, and most important part of his feed, is fibre (hay grass) available 24 hours a day.
The only feed he is on, is Dengie, Healthy Hooves, hig fibre cubes, Fiber beet and Pro feet suppliment, and Formular 4 feet, all discussed by my vert for me to feed him!
Rose hips, seaweed and magnesium oxide are fantastic for healthy hoof growth and especially for horses that are good-doers and prone to laminitis. Small supplements of these in their daily grain (only a handful of grain if they are not working) is the road to success. I am sure your vet can confirm the benefits of these natural products
(i was fortunate enought to find new stables and moved the very next day after this incident) we only knew hed been fed because his feed bucket was in his stable and he had his headcoller on!
but it will be 3 years ago in january that this happened! he is slowly on the mend :), just goes to show you cant trust anyone these days..The police said because i didnt have any footage of the person that they wouldnt be able to do anything (even tho we knew who it was)
I think it´s fantastic you didn´t disgard your horse as many would when he was found laminitic. But you must learn more about the whole horse. I saw in the foto of him at a contest all shiny & pretty but overweight. This causes laminitis & causes stress on liver and kidneys in a shod horse. Learn about nutrition & natural lifestyle.
Hiya, i do apreciate your comment, but just thought you should know, Oliver went into liver and kidney failour because he was poisoned by somone, the vets think it was creasort! And he was barefoot all of his life up untill getting Laminitis when he had to have heart bar shoes on to sopport his pedal bone, we have continuesly tried him barefoot, with little sucess untill this sommer, when last week i got to sit on him again, the first time since starting barefoot in april!
Thats awful. Creosote has been illegal for years (even here is Spain where I live), but I know people still use it on fence posts and gates. You only have to look at the deformed hands of people that used to work in creosote factories to see the damage it does. It wont help Oliver, but for other horses check were he was that there was no creosote fencing - and report it!
Hiya, yes it is banned here now, but he was poisoned by a person, a person broke into my tack room and mixed in into his feed then fed him at night, then stole all my tack and slashed the backend of my filly, we obviously didnt know Oliver had been poisend untill a few day after
carried on from b4: i do recomend trying to get the shoes off as soon as you can, as they are only really any help when there is rotation going on, Oliver can now walk barefoot without his boots on, wer hoping hell be ridden by christmas
You just have to keep going and stay strong, and keep tryong, dont give up yet :)
thanks, he isnt allowed 2 be barefoot unfortunately as he is flat footed, his old owned did try him over winter without shoes and he hated it so plastic shoes seemed lyk the only option for us atm:(
obviously don´t know full history, but no horse is born flat footed. After only a year of being shod a hoof is now deformed. Every horse can recover and become sound barefoot. We took on a horse that was late to become my daughters hero with founder. His coffin bone reset and he became sound barefoot only 9 months after taking his shoes off and beginning natural balance hoof care.
thanks, yes he has always been flat footed. the vets and farriers have told us he can never go barefoot because he becomes very uncomfortable and unsound. my pony has had careful remidial shoeing and although still a long way from recovery is sound and almost back to his normal self.
hiya, he was on sorts of things for his liver and kidneys, he was on 8 bute a day, and had those foam pad thingys on for about 2 months, then heart bar shoes, (nail on ones) if your horse was barefoot b4,
you should really check out natural hoof trimming way more comfortable for the horses than shoes just do some research its amazing stuff i know i was a strong believer in shoes untill i found out about natural barefoot trimming
Hiya, yes hes fine from lammi now, weve had problems over the summer of his hooves cracking from the heat, so hes shoes fell off, wer trying to rehabilitate him barefoot, he just wears nappies and his cavello simple boots at the moment, hell be ok in a few months :)
My best friend, my world, my absolute angel has laminitis, shes not even mine, but i ride her and its really upsetting for me, she only has a little bout but i cant even imagine what you must have gone through with this charming little pony.
I can completely understand what you have and are going through. I have a horse recovering from laminitis as well. When "people" don't give up on their animals, amazing things can and do happen. I wish you and Oliver all the best.
is so lovely to see there as careing and lovely owners out there who dont give up and pray for the best and their love always helps the horse recover xxx
Tons...under my account, all the videos of Clue (her name) depict her before, during, and after her issues with the laminitis...and what we're doing now to bring her back to a rideable state.
I'm so sorry to hear this. My mare is just being reintroduced to work after having compensatory laminitis...it's been a hell of a trip--a year of ups and downs. I really wish you all the best...it's so hard.
great video! I love Olivers blankie!!
