Kind of depressing how PR2 is so disgustingly slow at doing anything. Do you guys think you'll be able to make it significantly faster in the near future? On what does its speed depend? Thanks.
@Shalek The PR2 might not be a fast robot, but it is the most capable one I have ever seen. Nowadays you will get a lot of robots that are incredibly fast at doing something (see how many of them solve the Rubik's cube), but they can't do much more than simple tasks. The Willow Garage, ROS and the community that is being built around it will hopefully change this. In the meantime, I hope you would reconsider your opinion of the PR2.
@pezzotto811 Sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way. I don't have a bad opinion of the PR2, I've seen what its capable of and I think its one of the best things out there. It's still a bit depressing how slow it is, I know that's probably because it's that much complicated though.
@Hermytion This is certainly not a stupid question! The cube is solved using Kociemba's algorithm. We give the algorithm a time limit of 10 seconds to find a solution, after which the shortest solution found is executed. For a heavily mixed up cube, a solution of about 25 moves is typically found.

I think it will be a good idea to give it a very shuffled cube, which will take lot of moves. The recorded video can be speeded up and then put on youtube ;)
ahh BOB lol

@cjcb27 oh haha wow this sounds very complicated. i think its hard to program a robot like that, isn't it?

@Hermytion Yes... but extremely rewarding at the end!

not bad - but lets see how he does with a really shuffled cube
knavehart 10 months ago
@knavehart It does! But it is quite slow, so the video would have been boring. We saw it running solutions with more than 20 moves!

@pezzotto811 That shouldn't really be needed
