Here's what I think happened behind the scenes:

Neighbors tell pops he has to get Heathcliff castrated. The little boy doesn't know that word and in trying remember the word and relate the news to Heathcliff it becomes catafungalopus. Heathcliff doesn't know the word either, but he knows it means getting his nuts snipped so he sends Jake in his place. Afterward Heathcliff goes back to normal so everyone figures taking his nads did the trick.
