Mandarins are not as hard to train to eat frozen foods as I thought. Everyone was saying established tank this and that. Bought one because they were on sale 2nd day he was eating frozen brine!
i have a question guys.. i have a manila clam in my tank.. which i bought from a sea food market for .60cents... ok the clam is getting along with everyone.. although it started burrowing.. the next day its 100% under the sand.. now i tried to look for it and tried to look under the sands but i cant seem to find it in the spot anymore..
does clams travel under the sands? because it doesnt have any fins nor arms or even tentacles.. but it seem to disappear.. sorry noob here
hey do the scooter blennys and mandarin get along? i have a small 1 1/2 inch mandarin and in the pet store they have a very fat and healthy scooter blenny that loves frozen foods but i am wondering if he will bother my mandarin.
@28GallonBowfront Hey Bud, I have never had any issues with the blenny/mandarin mix. They are both very passive and so long as they have enough to eat all will be well. I'd say go for it!
@devnull128 Yeah i just ordered a small red scooter so they would at least be somewhat of the same size. i also am getting a refugium and already dose my tank with pods weekly
@28GallonBowfront - Awesome! The refuge will be a huge help with them. We occasionally feed live brine as well, which fattens everything up quickly too.
Sounds like you will have very fat and happy fish!
@cmanclan101 - thanks! Funny you should ask, we are just starting a disassembly for this tank and moving to a smaller system (29 bio cube HQI). That will be a temp home until the big system goes into the basement (my vote is 400g LoL). Thanks again!
hey do the scooters ever fight with the mandarin? i have a scooter i trained to take frozen foods and pellets.. would like to do the same for a mandarin but i heard they are of the same family and will fight or possibly kill each other....
you need to make sure that you have an established tank for the Mandarin. It is almost impossible to get them to eat prepared foods. They like to eat the pods out of your tank so if it is established you should be ok.
It is a 54g corner tank with about 65lbs of rock. It has a all-glass model 1 sump with the usual pump and coralife 220g skimmer. The light is a Solana 150w metal halide pendant light (it is somewhere around $250). I have three heads in the tank now for flow, and a phosban reactor for the usual junk...
I hope that helps, let me know if have any other questions!
I think it was just under $2k with everything... The lighting is a bit brighter in real life, but your observation is correct. A little more intense lighting would be better IMO. This works just fine, but if I was to do it again I'd probably go wider and stronger. Good luck!
Hey Bud, the lower half is medium flow and the upper is medium/strong. I put in three blowers and directed them so that the flow follows the glass curve (it gives it a mini tornado effect). So far that has worked great!
Great tank! Awesome presentation! I don't think your mandarin and scooters will live more then a few months in this environment since they will be competing for what little live food you have for them. Great job!
This is the most hilarious music to this video marlin is going rambo on the person who stole nemo. LECTRIFIED UP BITCHES!!!!

ospreys48 2 years ago
Hey bud,
I wish you were correct and I was wrong, but it is in fact the 54... (and I can only get an all-glass model 1 sump to fit the base). Thanks though!

@devnull128 Hey beautiful tank. I love it. I have a question can diamond goby's go in a tank with gravel? I have only seen them in sand.

How deep is your sand bed?
ryanim18 2 years ago
Hey Bud, 3-4 inches. It varies though due to Neil (our Diamond goby) constantly redecorating...
What an entertaining dude that one is... LOL
