  • classic - Got an ad for Scientology before a Doug Stanhope vid!!

  • @getyaboogieon not that i can see...

  • @getyaboogieon

genious: get ABP for firefox; no ads ever. You will thank me later ;)

  • I had to drop out of school for a semester because of anxiety and uncertainty about what I wanted to do with my future and they put me on fucking Effexor. The dose was way too high and I spent the next semester in a corpse-like state getting Cs. I used to be an A student back when I had emotion and drive. I've been able to get myself down to the lowest dose in the year since I've been on it, but I'm still fucking addicted to the zombie-making shit.

  • @CoralineWinter

Emotions are fine and dandy, until you come to understand that they are the architects of your slavery. Your logical mind is the one that drives you to learn, to understand, to improve and to become powerful and potent.

Your innate biological instincts, your urge to procreate without reason, your urge to eat and sleep and shit are the ones that are destructive. They serve no purpose to you as an individual, only as a benefit to the species.

  • @PilmarKhinKari

Of course these biological imperatives are something we cannot be rid of...if we could I would do it without a second thought.

We can however, use our logical mind to supress these basic instincts. We can become better than we are born to be.

  • I was kind of depressed at the state of the world, and my inability to comprehend what happens when I die. I was contemplating taking some sort of drug to stop these depressing thoughts from effecting me. Then I watched Doug Stanhope do stand-up for the first time, and realized there wasn't anything wrong with me really. I just had to stop being depressed.

  • @Megido

i know what you mean buddy, i'd definitely recommend listening to Bill Hicks too if you haven't already.

  • @steviek198 Yeah, I've seen him too, but thanks for the recommendation anyway.

  • @Megido What could you not comprehend? We cease to exist. Despite that natural innate feeling of being "special" - our bodies are all bombs, tied down by the same ropes lit by the same flame that's slowly coming for us all. You exist within the here and now.. you won't exist to even care when the time comes, and if you've been listening to Hicks, you might be open to the idea of an afterlife, just not the stereotypical christian one.

  • @SpyronicBanjocoot You understand what it's like to not exist, do you?

  • @Megido Well, where was I before I was born? My "consciousness" (or whatever it is) did not exist. The lack of a self or anything is all I have to go by. Other than that, no, I don't know. I don't want to know, but it's not about what we want, is it? It CAN be a terrifying feeling when you think about what is coming.. But it is what it is. Fearing the inevitable is useless and only drains you and leaves your nerves shot. What can be done?

  • @SpyronicBanjocoot Honestly, I'm getting to the point where I'm not scared, just curious. Not like, "Man, I can't wait to die!" More like at least then I'll know (or not know) what the deal is.

Also, I feel like dying isn't the scary thing; it's the thought that nothing we do matters.

  • @Megido Dude, I think a great deal of people have gone through what we have, although maybe not in the SAME exact way, but y'know what I mean.. We'll never truly know until the time comes.. We may not ever even know afterwards, depending on what actually happens. Why is that thought scary? I know, everyone would LIKE to be of some importance, but we're only doing what we have no choice but to do.. which is live. Who knows why? It's not relevant. Why is that thought scary? It SHOULD be freeing.

  • like that line about how they will leagalize everything that continues production

  • smart

  • I love how people got tense for a second when he mentioned slavery and then realized he wasn't saying anything racist. lol shows how easy it is for people to get upset. just mention slavery.

  • When I feel depressed about life I just go and listen to Stanhope and I feel better. I know it sounds fucking gay but I had to say it.

  • Are we not enough fun for ya here at the Verizon wireless family?

  • @ smegma - The fun is Doug taking grenade to societal conventions and our compliance to, delusions within it. His style a brilliant spoof on, whilst spawned by, the underbelly of dominant culture/society. Though I celebrate his edginess & applaud when not shocked by his irreverence, glad I don't live in America.

There's nothing depressing (but consequences of denial) in the highlighting of seediness, desperation and repressed hypocrisy that he's trying to wake us up to owning.

  • Don't fuckin work hard. Dummy, you die at the end, didn't anyone tell ya?

  • 1 - doug stanhope

    2 - george carlin

    3 - bill hicks

    straight up.

  • He has a lot of good points but hes too extreme and pretty hipocritical. He gets fucked off at christians for pushing their religion on people but he spends pretty much everyone of his stand up acts forcing his beliefs (atheism) on people

  • more truth than you will ever find on major media.

  • Same old regurgitated social commentary that only the mindless many will consider insightful. Well at least his act stirs up the mind of the layman. Props for that.

  • @HalloFusilli LOL, and what makes you so fucking enlightened? The two financial videos you list as favorites? Whatever you need to feel superior, as it seems to be the only thing that gives you an identity. Needing to feel superior over others on youtube is the same old regurgitated bullshit that the pretentious cocksuckers will use to self-applaud. You aren't as special as you think, but I'm certain your ego will keep my voice of reason out.

  • @schadenfreudelolz22 I never truly claimed to be so enlightened. I realize full well that comparatively I am pretty mindless. Though you will not believe it I wrote that comment not because I needed to pet my ego, but rather to keep those who greatly praise comics like Carlin, Hicks. Stanhope etc for their wonderfully insightful commentary in their proper place. Again they only spit out banal ideas. The same critique you exposed against me I have found is so disgustingly characteristic of their

  • @schadenfreudelolz22 fanbase. I realize fully the comparative power of my mind as should everybody. I’m sorry that you felt so insulted by my comment that you felt it necessary to call out my supposed pretension. You Hicks, Carlin, Stanhope, etc fans yourselves need to stop feeling so damn special when praising such banality. Unfair how when you fans insult the mindless with such ego its perfectly acceptable yet when I declare you bunch another set of mindless many I'm declared a douchebag.

  • @HalloFusilli No worries, I wasn't offended. But yes, I thought you were a douchebag, which is why I responded. But enlighten me, if they are still near the bottom of the barrel, who, or what, is at the top? This is not sarcasm, I really want to know what you consider to not be mindless. And if you cannot figure out why going to a youtube video and ragging on the artist and his fans gets you declared a douchebag, then I seriously doubt you "realize fully the comparative power of your mind."

  • @schadenfreudelolz22 Of course I know why someone would launch a personal attack on me. No person wants to be told that what they were praising is nothing more than blandness. Additionally they cannot refute the truthfulness of it being nothing more than regurgitation so the only way to appease a hurt ego would be to attack me. I tell you with sincerity that I only want to bring some humility to alot of these people. Like an atheist, for example, who touts with such arrogance in having made

  • @schadenfreudelolz22 such a insightful realization when the fact of the matter is that they only corrected a childlike mistake. Existence continues to be so utterly mysterious. Now we are all mindless/naive but there is a spectrum of course. Those that I see as the most thoughtful and original would be people like Schopenhauer, Spinoza, Hume, Dostoevsky, Kafka, Mann etc. They are the ones who humble me greatly. I know I can come off as arrogance myself which is what you detected but I try my

  • @HalloFusilli Did you forget Nietzsche, or have you not read him?

  • @mikeisapro Definitely Nietzsche as well. The first thing of his I ever read was On the Prejudices of Philosophers from Beyond Good & Evil. The wealth of insight in those few pages I found incredible. So in case you haven't read it already I would say wholeheartedly to read that puppy. Also, I would recommend Stirner's The Ego and Its Own if you're very interested in Nietzsche's analysis of subjugation of ego. But yeah, Nietzsche's great stuff.

  • @HalloFusilli BUT, Nietzsche doesn't "humble you greatly"?

Yeah it's okay. He was just a great man.

  • @mikeisapro Reread the first part of my response. Wah Wah Wah Waaah

  • @HalloFusilli Sorry I'm just a fan boy sheep :P

  • @schadenfreudelolz22 best to be humble. I try my darnedest to only look to others for humility and never for flattery. Sorry for the wordiness but I only want to be clear.

  • Looks a little cloudy.....

  • Could this be our generation's George Carlin? Let's keep an eye on this guy!

  • A genius. Unhappy drug addict alcoholic... Knows the reality of life. There is no God there is no purpose and we are chasing nothing. No purpose. But ya gotta laugh!!!

  • Don't agree with the part about sucking a dick or riding a pole to make money but It is reality for the times....good job

  • Doug's a real team player.

  • I work in mental health and Doug is SO fucking spot on with this. People seek out antidepressant therapy just to glorify the fact that life fucking sucks sometimes.

"No, that's not it, I must be ill".

  • It's what Bill Hicks would have wished to develop into if he had had a longer life. . Excellent for what it is.

  • it's amazing that most of us sacrifice our own happiness for the will of corporations.

  • @sixthsensi It's an appeal to authority. It's what drives the corporations. Let it rot. It's time for them to all rot.

  • D.S. had an accident. ?

  • dusters

  • You said Hicks? Awesome.

  • When I feel down he makes me laugh, when I'm up I avoid him like the plague. He's like the medicine that tastes really nasty and that's why it works on what's nasty inside you.

  • i always put stanhope on my ipod and tell ppl to listen, always gets them, spread the word

  • Does anyone else find themselves laughing but feeling slightly depressed at the same time?

  • @smegmadiver22 there's a drug for that.

  • @smegmadiver22 I find that with a lot of Stanhopes material.

  • @smegmadiver22 good analogy for life, my friend.

  • @smegmadiver22 The only reason to be depressed would be if you didn't have the balls to get yourself out of a shitty predicament (i.e. a soulless corporate job). Like he said, buy less shit you don't need, support industries and services that need to be supported, and maybe one day you'll land a dream job and not have to resort to Adirol.

  • @missingt00th "adirol" (aderall) is for attention deficit disorder, not depression

    but yeah, you're basically right.

  • @pauleypauleypauley Methylphenidate and other amphetamine salts are used to treat depression in some cases. They only work if the patient has a natural dopamine deficiency that can cause decreased energy, chronic fatigue, clinical depression, and severe appetite changes.

  • @smegmadiver22 Is it weird that Doug Stanhope actually makes me happy when I listen to him? :-X He's aweare of our plight, and he's helping these folks become aware too, so that makes me happy, :D

  • @CelorElderOne You are correct. I agree. For true revolution read Summerhill by A.S. Neil

  • @smegmadiver22 I must vote this down, must resist!

  • @smegmadiver22

I found myself laughing and feeling refreshingly liberated.

  • At least Black People Know When They Were Slaves

    You Remained Clueless!

  • mane fukk dogu stanhope dis nigga aint no goo comidian mane yo you niggaz needz to be bitch slap fo thingin dis is funni fukk u crip killa all day

  • @gcmb3790 What language are you speaking?

  • @Edubbplate o stewardess I speak jive ;-)

  • When he first said "At least black people knew when they were slaves", everyone halted thinking it was some racist comment. Then he says "You're clueless" and they're all relieved.

  • @TheOtium Interesting how brain washed with "correctness" the average joe is, isn't it?

  • prophet.

  • Hahah, the more shows I see from this guy, the more I love him.

  • This guy speaks for me.

  • fuck i've gone deaf in one ear

  • Comment removed

  • BEST!

  • Favourited

  • His videos should all have millions of views

  • The new wind tunnel Cars look as a blob of snot and they are designed to break down in Six months. Is anyone impressed at that rip off.

  • at least black people knew they were slaves, while you remain fucking clueless ~L~

  • @twolizards27 Are you not part of this too? Surely so!

  • "yur gonna die at the end.. anyone tell ya!"

    kapow

  • he reminds me of a fresh new Bill Hicks

  • Hail to the King Baby

  • Just discovered this guy a couple of weeks back. Brilliant.

  • ahh only one ear works ahhh!

  • No but it makes people wait patiently until its their designated weekend until they blow off steam. Plus it's a major industry.

  • the organized crime that started as a result of alcohol/drug prohibition was, and still is very productive.

  • fuck all that people arent seeing the big picture. Why can't we govern ourselves? Are people really that uncontrollable? there's just too much there to comment about.... but in a comedy set Doug sums it up pretty well if u can feel what he's saying. Unfortunately, people are too self-saturated to really care to make a difference and we instead settle to hear some guy getting paid half of what he's worth to speak truth only to be someone's weekend entertainment.

  • @sasukeisgod The government is just a support system for the law really. It's there to stop bad men taking your shit, by being a bigger badder man and taking your shit in a more acceptable way.

  • he could recomend the peace corp, or whatever it is called

  • At least black people knew, hahaha!!! I love it!

  • If standup comedy can share a single attribute of prophecy, then Stanhope IS a fucking prophet. His material is truth first, funny a distant second, and yet reliably hilarious. Deal with it.

  • I agree. Hearing him speak makes me laugh but at the same time it creates a space of absolute calm and quiet inside me. It's its own kind of high.

Hicks, Carlin and Stanhope are my holy trinity.

  • Completely agree! Those guys are legends.

  • Why the hell would he do that, he wants to make money also ... look what happened to bill hicks , you think this dude really doesnt want a bigger pay check ?if it is mostly shock then you dont get the gigs because this stuff is not for everyone.. i think he would laugh in your face off stage if you thought he was out like some kindof preaching joke telling free show... its an act and he is good at his shtick....

  • @Martin: ala Bill Hicks, No?

  • the only way to find out the truth about anything is through genius comedians like doug stanhope.

  • @iurhviusdfavhi Noooo, not true, i was aware of this shit way before i saw this, and it's one of the reason i respect him so much, but yeah it's all good whatever the the reality is.

    Peace out :D

  • Or you know you could just use that brain of yours?

  • the sad truth

  • DougStanhope sees the truth. And knows how to make it fucking funny and thought provoking.

  • Oh look, the anti-smoking Nazis are here. Stop poisoning my brain with your secondhand stupidity please or I'll ask an authority to remove you from youtube.

  • LOL "you die at the end anyway, didnt anyone tell you? srry"

  • is it just me or does he look like he always wants to take a drag on his cigarette but changes his mind at the last second... hehe. This guys the fuckin best. We need more people like this guy so I dont feel so alone in my life

  • @morgan88will1

    You think exactly like me.

  • He's not being selfish and taking it all into his own lungs, he's sharing the filth and poisons with the people who have paid for him to be there. What a guy!

  • @morgan88will1 a lot of people do that with cigarettes/drinks :P

  • @morgan88will1 -

    Agreed.

  • Agreed.

  • @morgan88will1 He will chain smoke when he gets to the hotel

  • @morgan88will1 You're not alone, not by a long shot.

  • Sabes lá se ele é a reincarnação deles! Ainda não eras nascido puto! Vai tomar o leitinho primeiro!

  • this guy is the new incarnation of lenny bruce, of carlin, of hicks. spread the word...

  • You are correct. Look up here on youtube, Marilyn Manson speech about violence and blame. Mr. Manson is in the same leage as Bill Hicks and Geroge Carlin believe it or not.

  • Thanks for the recommendation, I only ever knew of him from his music, I'll check him out.

  • @iChesus

I know. I'm so grateful to have him.

  • And he's doing his best to join the league of dead comedians.

Go and catch his act, hurry. In twenty years when nobody laughs at anything you every say because you're old you can reminisce about this great dead comedy legend who was funnier than anybody around today, who could say stuff people just can't get away with saying these days. Then you know you will be ready to die yourself.

  • Can I add Jerry Sadowitz to that? Catch him while you can, neither of these r going to be around forever

  • @iChesus I think I agree with just about everything Hicks ever said. Not so this guy, but he's only second to our Bill as funniest ever bloke!

  • just to work hard to buy shit to fucking impress people? you're a fucking loser... D. Stanhope.

I say that to myself everyday.

  • I'm glad he's here too.

  • this man is brilliant,I need to start going from place to place and preach the truth to people and make it kinda funny and BOOM,I get paid and I"m informing the mass of sheep retards....

  • Comparar Doug com Hicks é um bocado estúpido são raivas diferentes

  • He's edgey and truthful, very much like Hicks, although he doesn't quite have the same presence.

  • I liked this!

He's Got a wonderfully cynical way about him.

He reminds a little of George Carlin in both style and his general outlook.

Brutal honesty is often funny as fuck and he seems to put a great comedic spin to some harsh facts.

I'm gonna have to check out a bit more of this bloke!

  • ahhhhhhhhhhh refreshing

  • I'm trying hard to alert people in the UK to this guy.........even telling them that he's 'the new Bill Hicks', but so far no one's listening very much.........he's a real genius, as good as Hicks without ripping him off.

  • hes a hard sell yeah I've been having the same issue and I saw him live in Montreal during Just for Spite. he needs press

  • I don't think he gives a shit.

  • Fuck britain anyway.

  • So much arrogance.

  • I really love the delicious irony of this man apparently attacking social norms and conventions (it's his job, it's what pays the bills, it's what The Man wants him to do) and then his fans fawning over him and attacking the only person with the balls to dish out the same treatment on him, pro bono.

Go on you wonderful free spirited independent thinkers, let Doug do your thinking for you and howl down the critics so everybody conforms, in the name of original thinking and free expression.

  • Doug Stanhope is definately someone who knows who he is.

  • Yes, he's a man who earns money by apparently shocking people with his views. How does that work? Think about it. He earns money by selling tickets to see him "shock" people with almost exactly what they expected he was going to say. He has a stage persona just as much as Alice Cooper has. He plays a caricature of himself on stage which people pay to see. If his own genuine opinions don't work on the audience he twists them until he gets the reaction he needs to stay in the business.

  • He earns money because he's funny and political incorrect. At least that's why I went to see him.

By the way, how do you know which of his opinions are genuine and which are not? And another thing, who cares?

If it makes me laugh I'm happy with it.

Oh and another thing, why do you care? Don't like it? Just walk away.

You give me the impression of someone who is very full of himself and has an opinion about everything even when he lacks the knowledge to know what he's talking about.

  • As I said, he gives the audience what they expect. He trims his apparent attitudes to fit the expectations of his audience. People go to see him be "politically incorrect", if he has any beliefs which don't fit he needs to change them to fit in with the expectations. Being reasonable is not an option, he has to appear unreasonable because reasonable doesn't sell tickets.

You are right, I am full of myself, and I don't change my views to be popular or to make people laugh.

  • Yeah I got that but what I'm missing in your reply is how do you know that?

What if it turns out (difficult to prove I admit) that he really does look at things the way he says in his shows? How do you know what he really thinks or believes?

  • I don't know, I just think that it is very convenient that the beliefs he claims to have are funny and conveniently just irreverent and un-PC enough to entertain his audience and offer them the right degree of titillation and stimulation without going too far or coming off as rather normal. He reminds me of an apocryphal tale of an agitator on the streets during a demo when a crowd surges past he makes his excuses "The mob! I must follow them - I'm their leader!"

  • I agree with you (not 100 %, but thats irrelavent) but, you don't find his stand up even a little amusing?

  • irrelevant*

  • Of course some of it is funny, but not as funny as these sheep attacking me for daring to suggest that he's anything other than a prophet. He's a bloke who earns a living by being predictably "outrageous", within acceptable limits. I would respect him more if he pitched it wrong a bit more and actually offended his audience (those who come to be mildly shocked) or truly shocked them by being honest and reasonable.

  • gotcha.

  • that's why you aren't funny, interesting or unique.

  • I haven't tried to be funny. Why would I do that? You're all ready to assume I'm crazy because I don't just blindly accept the stories given out by your man. Doug is herding sheep through the turnstiles and telling them they shouldn't be sheep while he shears them. He's telling people to think their own thoughts while he tells them what to think, which is what they expect to be told. You don't think that's funny? I think it's fucking hilarious.

  • he's funny and interesting because he does not think like most people, including me. i am secure enough with myself that it is not threatening, and surely does not make me want to be more like him, i just accept that he is different and i find that interesting.

  • Actually he does have some very bad nights when he is on stage and admits he is tired.

    He is not an act.

  • No one does it better.

  • ;)

    exactly

  • nanotechnology :P

  • its a great video, but anyone else notice the audio track only comes through the right speaker?

  • thanks, I thought I just lost hearing in my left ear.

  • "blend in. conform. be like everyone else. join the herd." better the wolf than the sheep.

  • doug is the fuckin man...i've never heard his comedy before

  • "at least the black people knew they were salves.. you are clueless!"

    so true..

  • love this bit. anyone else hear this coming out of only one speaker?

  • HAHA are you serious? Eye sight damage? Then I guess all those people who got medical MJ for their glaucoma must be a bunch of poor misguided fuckers. ED? I've only experienced the opposite. If you're not vulnerable to mental health problems, then the only damage weed does is to your lungs, and if you vaporize or eat it, its almost entirely safe.

  • stanhope is the fuckin man!.....ppl in this country work every fuckin day...all day long ...when u dont need 2!....If u stop spending soo much money on stupid shit and just pay for stuff u need.....life is sooooo much better!.....I only work 3 days a week and i just pay my bills and spend the rest on beer and weed.....thats the secret to a good life ;)....stop buying stupid shit u dont need!

  • Amen.

  • I know someone who talks the same way as Doug. They're always fun to listen to, too. Though the dude I know, for all I know anyway, doesn't spout stuff this true and hilarious.

  • haha you die at the end didn't any one tell ya!!

  • They say you don't die from hard work.

    But why take the risk?

  • because anything worth doing was always hard?......Fuck it your right. WHISKEY! Lol

  • fucking awesome ! respekt.

  • did someone say.. chemical imbalance?

  • i love this! but still if everyone were stoned/lazy no one would have the ambition to be a doctor etc, and all the basic occupations needed to have people live in a fairly civilized world.

  • being stoned doesn't make you lazy. it just makes you relize all that shit you're doing with your worthless life just isn't worth the fucking effort.

by the way vjohnso, for 10,000 years or longer cannabis has been used. They weren't lazy.

pot doesn't make you a lazy fucking loser.

chances are you're already a lazy loser then you smoke pot and your still a lazy fucking loser.

there's over like millions of people in the us that use cannabis daily.

  • I wouldn't want my surgeon to be high while operating! But the fact that weed is good recreation is cool and I agree but stanhopes idea of a sort of 'do whatever you want, screw the rules anarchist society" would never work. I'm glad some people are sticklers and pursue hard careers like science, production, medicine, pharmecutical etc. or else we'd all be dead. it'd be like the middle ages.

  • I wouldn't care because im aware that cannabis doesn't make you a fucking moron.

I can do my daily activites work, & school just as well if not better and i smoke everyday

  • I'll see how you're going in 20 years. People who smoke weed every day DO end up dumb shits, sorry - seen it happen time and time again. how about trying to smoke once a month, and just a single cone. You'd probably be more aware as to what's going on in your brain ;)
