  • Wow Johnny sportin the Grunge look

  • awesome.

he totally owns his songs, his tunings, his guitar. <3goo

  • dannnnggg. he's so much younger than he is now. but that's a given

  • Good music is good music. Period. And this is coming from someone who listens to these guys, Doors, Pink Floyd CCR and all the way to Dimmu Borgir and Slayer. Good music is Good musid damn it.

  • @mregobuster "Good music is good music" My 62 y/o dad says this and he loves this song!

  • Cool outfit! :D i like it xD

  • Good. Lord.

  • This song inspired me to learn guitar.

  • @Chhum1985 Me too ;)

  • johnny is the best

  • john was a major influence on my acoustics. ive written a few songs in his open tunings. wish i could sit and play with this guy. almost as bad as i wish i could sit and play with dave mustaine from megadeth

  • Great song, the best!

  • amazing, thats all i can say! when i heard the name goo goo dolls i always thought they were like this shitty punk gay ass band, but i am amazed! i cant stop listening to them!

  • omg they all look soooo young!

  • haha I love at 0:18 the guy on the right is just like "ooo this chair twirls...."

  • @Linkster500 that would be robby. and he's amazing

  • @Linkster500 at 2:44 it looks almost identical minus the little excited smirk.

  • @Linkster500 His name is Robby Takac. ;)

  • this is great

  • Ok...first off...this, along with a bunch of other of their songs are TIMELESS to me....This band has stuck together so freaking long and still puts out meaningful music that never ceases to touch me....

2nd...I know Rzeznik's voice is amazing..and his talent is of equal honor...but I honestly think....just by looking at Robby Takac..i think he might be one of the coolest individuals on the planet to get to know..just saying...he looks like he's freaking fire!

  • If I had to pick a top-10 of the 1990s, this tune would definitely be in there. Amazing version.

  • if this doesnt get that bass player laid..........nothing will

  • @machoman50000 HE LOOKS LIKE RIKKI LAKE ON A BAD HAIR DAY

  • Awesome song, i just love it. Thanks Johnny!

  • I'm in love.

  • i am SO in love.

  • My favorite.

  • from 2:56 to the end craziest part forever !

  • great, but i think Johnny was playing this song just ALITTLE too fast,he should have slowed the song down would have made this performance better.

  • @SpinDoctor91 actually, i have a better idea. why don't you just appreaciate how it is knowing they did the best they could?

  • @equestriansheridan

well how about this? how about you just accept my opinion cause your also entitled to yours.i never said the performance was bad, just said it was a tad fast, and it is in my opinion.that dosen't make me any less of a Goo Goo Dolls fan cause im not,im one of the biggest fans.just stating my opinion, get over it.

  • John Rzeznik wrote this about his childhood. He sings it to his sisters who raised him; both his parents died when he was young and his father was an alcoholic. The line, "We're grown up orphans who never knew their names" reflects his past. (thanks, Caitlin - Yardley, PA,

Would be happy, if you check out my cover of the song.

  • @LedZero84 I did check out your cover. Very nice. However, the line "I think about you all the time.." says, "I think about you all the time and I don't need the SAME." You sang "...I don't need the NAME." No big deal, but thought you might want to know. However, I'm guessing you already do. Great cover, love your voice.

  • @LedZero84 When he sings "We're grown up orphans who never knew their names", do you think by saying "their" names, the word "their" refers to his parents?

Or is it a misuse of the word "their" and "their" refers to him and his siblings?

    Seems to work either way.

  • this song is so well done. a favorite, always has been, probably always will be be.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever.

  • Lookin Like Kurt Cobain Mr. Rzeznik! lol

Regardless, these guys make music better than anyone out there today and yesterday

  • @HispanicPenguin Yeah I noticed that too =P Awesome! And agree they make awesome music and so full of emotions ^_^ Theres two guys I think look like Mr.Cobain and that Mr.Rzeznik here and then there's Jay Smith =P Best part Jay sounds like Cobain too, lol! AWESOME SONG-ONG-ONG!

  • Guys it is great to read all of your amazing comments. I think these guys are the best ever. Thank you for being so amazing and posting your thoughts. We the fans are the reason why music exists. Their new record Something For The Rest Of Us was inspired by people like you and me. It is amazing. Check it out and get it if you like it.

  • One of the best songs ever written. "Don't it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are?" is one of the best lines ever fabricated. I've seen these guys live 3 times and absolutely respect the hell out of them.

If anyone gets a chance, I have covered this song, and would love to hear some constructive criticism of it.

  • @brian0005 I agree. This song is incredible and the band's fist big hit! I like your cover and agree with tips left on your vid. And that poster you have in the video "City Of God" is so nice.

  • @MissMejiaHQ Thanks! Yea I love that movie, it's very well made.

  • @brian0005 Keep singing and playing that guitar!

  • @brian0005 id love to hear it!

  • Man I love the 90s. Very little out there compares to this!

I was in a band with my brother and my cousins. We loved this song because of the many chord changes and progressions.

  • what is not to like! amazing talent

  • 100% Epic.....just saw them performing live (for my 3rd time) 3 nights ago and the GGD's are as totally amazing as ever. My total fave band. No one writes better songs, performs better, and damn, they look hot, too! They are the total package!

  • @hilltopfamily YES!!! They are amazing. Thank you.

  • gotta love the 90's hair lol. Goo Goo Dolls rock

  • the goo are the best band ever!!!!!

  • the hell with lady ga ga this is real talent I miss it so much

  • I love guitars. How rare you get 3 up front. The uniqueness of this band is a plus. But the songs are powerful.

  • @LuvSilly WOOPS 2 and a mini drum.

  • damn why does everyone look down on the clothing it's the music that counts how they sound not what they wear

  • love his boots :]

  • The BEST ACOUSTIC SONG EVER :)

  • cool song...its been decades ago but its still nice to hear..

  • This song has the greatest lyrics, and i can say that with the upmost confidence.

    - "And don't it make you sad to know that life.. is more than who we are?" ... Wow.

  • @YAZZ69er I think Bernie Taupin's..."I can't light no more of your darkness"...for Elton John is the best lyric I have heard but the Goo Goo Dolls do have some great lyrics.

  • is good song

  • muito bom,grande artista.

  • juz wonderful..=)

  • Omg, look how young John looks! So hawt!!! :-)

  • My favorite song from them

  • And even though the moment passed me by

I still can't turn away... Scars are souvenirs you never lose, the past is never far.. I think about you all the time, but I don't need the same, it's lonely where you are...

  • Comment removed

  • A commercial stage presence??? Hardly. They're dressed like they just got up. It is called "show business"

  • Comment removed

  • its not about their clothing...its about the music

  • @jging676 yeah but if they were wearing hawaiian flower shirts i might have to disagree with you. lol

  • @jging676 funny, i was just saying "what i wouldn't do (or wouldn't have done back in the day) to date a guy that looks like that. i mean, the hair, the combat boots, the cargo shorts, the shirt- whoa. and then i look down and see your coment. lol!

  • ANOTHER GREAT BAND FROM BUFFALO !!!

  • I agree w/u gopee1

  • such an amazing moving song. These guys are such amazing musicians. Thankyou for sharing this high quality recording.

  • i pray my kids never have to go through what john describes in this amazing song. always make the best choices in life, that way, not only will you be around for your children, but they will follow in those footsteps as well. in nomine patris, et filii, et spiritus sancti. god bless

  • your past is never far-- did you loose yourself somewhere out there? Don't it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are?.

  • Why don't you show some respect and pay for them?

  • i am that friend!

  • i love goo goo dolls

  • : ) luuuuuuuuv this song.

  • what's this song about

  • your friend realising their life isnt what they wanted, and hasnt been for a while.

  • It is about John and his sisters being left to fend for themselves after their Mother died...

  • i\ their father died sixth months after their mother

  • No, John's father died due to complications with alcohol. His mother died shortly thereafter, at home, in front of John and his sisters.

  • oh yeah ur right, sorry mate

  • Man they sound good live...something about acoustic songs that just go a little bit deeper. Great tune : )

  • I think I sometimes want to hide and not be found. The song is so profound.

  • There is someone that is trying to find you....

  • @TheJuicer1414 If you got nothing nice to say, why waste your time making a comment. What kind of retard are you?

  • yeah this song was made the exact same time as u wer being born!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG OMG i cant believe it

  • The song is on the 1995 CD release called, "A Boy Named Goo." This performance was in 1996.

  • What this song is 13 years old?!?!? I remember when this song came out. Its hard to believe its been that long. This song is just great. Even now.

  • word!

  • I LOVE this song!

  • I just dig them.

  • these are such an underrated band

  • I love that 90's tipical boots he was wearing

    n________n

  • hey, this is awesome! look how young they are lolol... ive watched the other video as well, but do you have anymore from this show?

    thanks ;-D

  • a suggestion of two groups Silversun pickups and #2 Great Norther. I think you will like a lot. No I am not a promotor just a music fan Long live John Rzeznik !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that's a nice Yamaha acoustic he has here! I wonder if he still has it.....

  • How do they do it? How can one band put so much emotion and heart into their music? *starts clapping* this is just simply amazing

  • Actually its not the band. John Rzeznik writes all their songs, the other members leech off him.

  • Robbie Takac writes a lot too and if you look on thier albums you will find a lot of credits to Rzeznik Takac Malinin

  • Comment removed

  • ummm.. i love this song man ,but i think there is alot alot alot of people out there 2 day who put alot more emotion than this song. a few of the top of my head Damien rice.. Ryan adams ,, Iron and wine.. just to get you started. i mean if you like that kind of emotion in music. The rare enjoyment that a musican gets out of of playing music you dont get that musch today. It's all about the money and fans. The billboards top 100 today you'd be lucky to find 1 good artist on it.

  • you're so right

  • the goos are not about money though, they still do the same thing theyve always done when making music, they go in a garage and make noise untill its music, and if u want to hear a song with a lot of emotion by the goos then listen to before its too late or real

  • what a fuckin tune

  • Why did he sing a song in a nasal voice? Did Johnny get a cold in Japan?

  • NO! He sang the song exactly how he should have...

  • Goo Goo Dolls are a really great band. When you hear them you understand the words and you relate to them.

  • This video has never been from 1996. I saw a video from 1993, and he looks so much different and really older than on this.

So finally i think he must be between 18 and 23 on this video..

  • this might actually be from 1996 b/c mike is in the band now, and i know back in the day they had a different drummer. when did mike join the band?

  • MIke joined in January 1995 after a brief jam session.

  • Well, this song was originally recorded in 1995, so Johnny was 29 since he was born in late 1965. So 1996 and his being 30 is about right for me, just looks really young, good on 'im. I actually think he's gotten better looking as he's gotten older. I'm a straight guy, just jealous. ;)

  • lol i agree with you guys should be jealous

  • He's 31 or 30 in this video. He looks like younger than he was there.

  • Sorcio1988

he still looks young for his age now tho don't ya think?

    hes an amazing man

    xxxx

  • He looks about 18 years old, Not a bad thing.

He's an amazing writer and artist.

    Love GGD.

  • Johnny's such an amazing writer

  • was he really 32 already? hottest 32 year old i have ever seen

this is one of the greatest bands ever

  • this was filmed a year after i was born too. amazing band, really really amazing

  • Tuning is DAEAEE

  • all of the string was tuned D.

  • Holy crap he was 32 wow i this was made a year after i was born i love this band

  • teach me how to play like him, pleeassee!!!!any triks on the way he toned the guitar?

  • Contact me. I am the only one that knows how to play this exatcltly like John. I have lived and breathed this song since 1995.

  • It's beginning to make sense to me now why you reacted the way you did.....
