Would this work with my own Fender Squier Strat (a real guitar)? I just bought it, brand new and the selector switch (the volume almost turns off at times, I have to tap on it to make it work) and the nut (my G string keeps on ringing) are broken (I have no idea how this happened, probably just a factory error). I wouldn't be able to sell a broken guitar to anyone, so I was wondering, if I could use it with this.

@Synnergy08 Unfortunately, no... or at least, not very easily. It can be done using a couple pieces of expensive equipment, but even with that, the big hurdle is reducing lag produced by some of the longer notes and chords.

@Dionys81 If it is not enabled (in the "up" position) when playing it in-game, it will register multiple overstrums due to the vibration of the strings. When playing it outside of the game, you will disable it.

@DDfilmsDD There are technical limitations to using your own guitar in real-time with this game. In RB3, this guitar registers accuracy based on finger placement rather than through musical note analysis. Middle C has a wavelength around 250 Hz, which means it will take at least .04 seconds to simply register for a full cycle read. Other notes will take even longer. Without even taking into account note accuracy, lag alone makes it near impossible to use a real guitar inexpensively.

@xXxSlayerxXx619 Yes, you can pre-order it NOW (started yesterday), exclusively in the US from Best Buy. Not sure about master tone knobs, but you can see the master volume knob on Fender's page for it. For strumming, chord strums will have to approximate the speed of real strumming.

@aaronilai Unfortunately no. At this time, the only guitars compatible with the game are the ones specifically designed for it (Mustang and Squier).

My only scare with this is that is history. For example, i know the guitar will work great outside the game. Its a great price for a real guitar. Now in the game. Remember the very first RB guitar to come out. It had tons of problems. This is a real guitar so we dont' have to worry about a faulty strum button. But i worry about how well the sensor will pick up your hands to see which fret you are on. I will have to see your reviews or Cena's on it just to be sure its not faulty.

@jack91xxxx How do you figure it costs 3 times more? A normal, non-Rock Band 3 Fender Squier costs anywhere from $115-$200, around $100 if you find it used. I think $279 is a good price point for a guitar that can help teach you how to play it all the while being compatible with normal Rock Band 3 gameplay.

You also say that Rock Band 3 (which includes lessons on how to play along with a REAL electric guitar) can't help anybody learn. How can you know if it really can or not?

15 years ago i pay my first guitar and my amp used 50 euro here in italy the guitar toy of rock band cost 279 euro and rock band 70 (only the game)

so we are in 350 euro versus 50 :) if one people buy a real guitar and a real amp new the starter pack cost100 euro , 350 is 3 times more

@jack91xxxx You're blowing this out of proportion, dude. I don't think anybody said you'd become a guitar expert from playing Rock Band's Pro Mode. But its not like I won't learn a thing from playing it. The game not only teaches you how to play the songs in it, but it has a ton of tutorials about chords and other such guitar lessons. As for the "touch and the feeling", its a REAL GUITAR that can be played outside of Rock Band. Not a plastic toy like you keep saying.
