  • NO SOUP FOR YOU!

  • tom is so awesome, a superb actor and had great hair back in the day!! I love both he and abraham and Amadeus still keeps me interested and intent through all 2 hours and 45 mins- and i'm only 15!

  • Sam Waterston WITHOUT grey hair? I figured he came out of the womb with it

  • Can't believe the last thing I saw F. Murray Abraham in was 'Shark Swarm'... tragic.

  • I got something for you. You know how to handle a machine gun?

  • what a picture and what acting

  • I LOVE how frankly Shirley said "The winner is F. Murray Abraham"!

I mean, normally at award shows the presenters are like "The winner......is.....he's a guy, he was in Amadeus...and his name is F MURRAY ABBBBRRRAAAAHAMMM!"

  • What a classy speech and F. Murray remains to this day one of my favorite actors. However, if anyone rents/buys "The Name of the Rose" and listens to the director's commentary, he describes a meeting where F. Murray tells him point blank that after years of being pushed around by directors he's going to make their lives miserable. He'd then pull stunts that would annoy the cast and crew and especially Sean Connery. Sadly, word gets around it really seems to have hurt F. Murrays's career. Shame.

  • Sosa avenged Mozart!

  • DeNiro in "Raging Bull"...Irons in "Reversal of Fortune"...They are #2, and #3 behind F. Murray Abraham in "Amadeus". THE single best performance in the history of movies, in my opinion.

  • @theriverrock I totally agree with you. I've seen great performances by great actors, but F. Murray's performance on Amadeus is, by far, the best performance of all times.

  • DeNiro in "Raging Bull"...Irons in "Reversal of Fortune"...They are #2, and #3 behind F. Murray Abraham in Amadeus. THE single best performance in the history of movies, in my opinion.

  • F Murray just disappeared after this and he was amazinh.

  • Best acceptance speech ever.

  • both r brillian actors:)

  • both r brillian actors :)

  • i am lucky to have had the pleasure of working and studying with F Murray.

  • One of the most deserving awards ever given out from any awards group. F. Murray Abraham gave a subtle performance for the ages that has so much more than meets the eye. He is one of our best and more underrated actors. I do want to say that Tom Hulce did give a fantastic performance as well.

  • A brilliant actor

  • Tom rocked the 80s hair.

  • Thanks a lot, Mr. Murray Abraham. Best regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

  • Tom Hulce is such a sweet person! :)

  • Way to go Omar!

  • E alla fine vince Salieri!

  • And finally Salieri wins!

  • One of the best acceptance speeches I have ever heard.

  • One of the best performance in the history of cinema, easily.

  • What a beautiful, gracious speech from a beautiful, gracious man.

  • F. Murray Boy ! Two other great roles of his are Bernardo Gui in The Name Of The Rose, and Omar Suarez in Scarface

  • What comes to Hulce and not receiving oscar (absolutely great performance, no doubt), I think it was anyhow a wrong move to put gay actor to play, granted jesting and emotional, but also boozing & womanizing and definitely straight Mozart (there are a very few gay classical composers as in every music genre by the way). So if this film has a downside it's the absence of that "love" and "compassion" which Hulce's character tries so desperately to be champion of.

  • @KKKSS67 I don't think they knew Hulce was gay. Hell, I didn't know Hulce was gay until I saw Stranger than Fiction. Had me fooled. I can see what you mean, but he was a really good actor anyways and him being gay was not obvious.

  • BEST MOVIE EVER ! should have been a double Oscar,

  • It's kind of bizarre to see Sam Waterston so young when I'm used to him on "Law & Order".

  • That MURRAY mentioned TOM HULCE, brought tears to my eyes, because it should have been a double Oscar given out for BOTH of these wonderful actors that evening. Tom wherever you are, I genuflect to your talent and I thank you for your many wonderful performances. :)

  • Sorry for my bad english but I want to say something: I think that it could be a great idea put some scenes from the movies just for watch the winning performances, you know what I mean? because it could be really great.

  • So much hatred ,for his character in the role he played . And to say what he said after receiving his Oscar reminds me he was acting ( in the movie) after all!

  • Omar was a stooley because Sosa said so!

  • i still think tom hulce deserved it a little more but im happy someone from amadeus one!

  • jeff bridges looks so hot.

  • F. Murray Abraham AND Tom Hulce should have shared the oscar!

  • @MagnusHansenMusic How true. I think F Murray Abraham showed great class and respect for saying what he did about Tom Hulce. The two of them together won that award and I will always consider Tom Hulce a Best Actor Winner

  • @MagnusHansenMusic YESSSSSSSSSS

  • eshte nje aktor i kolauduar ,,,por duhej roli i SALIERIT ta nxirte ne pah gjith profesionaliteti e ketij kolosi te kinemas per ata qe e vlersuan vetem pas ketij filmi per mua personalisht ,, cdo ril i ketij aktori eshte nje veper arti ... sidomos ne filmin ...IL NOME DELLA ROSA meritonte perseri OSCAR --- nje rol i realizuar ne menyre te perkryer,, F MURRAY ABRAHAM eshte nje mit ....... adrian farkaj

  • hes just kissin men on his way up....

    fruitayyy lol

great movie and great character //mediocre at best!

  • I loved F. Murray Abraham in Amadeus, totally deserved but... Its a shame that he became the icon of an actor becoming a failure after winning an Oscar.

  • Oh the irony. Salieri triumphed over Mozart at last.

  • @SethBlizzard An Oscar is a mere trifle compared to what Mozart has given the world. Triumph? No sir, Mozart still reigns. After all, how many people, wihout having seen this wonderful movie, would have even heard of Salieri?

  • I bet the judges were Italians and that's why Salieri won... ;-)

  • I love how Tom Hulce was so happy for his co-worker in 'Amadeus'. I was reading an interview with Tom, and they asked him if he was mad he didn't win, he said not at all, atleast getting nominated was a victory for him, he was so glad F. Murray Abraham won. Shows how kind-hearted Tom is. :)

  • simply the best male performance i've ever seen

  • What a lovely and humble acceptance speech. What a lovely and eloquent man. Too bad he isn't in more films these days.

  • one of the best performances in film history.. he is unbelievable as salieri

  • Im waiting for Tom Hulce to laugh if u catch my drift

  • F. Murray Araham, a very great actor. He would have deserved another nomination for best supporting actor in 1987 for his role in "The name of the rose". He was simply gorgeous as Bernardo Gui.

  • My god, what happened to the Oscars its a real shame :(

  • @hiran612 I agree, I was born in the year this took place, and I am sad to have missed these times. People know too much now and are ugly for it

  • They totally should've given a joint Oscar for this category just this once. Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham both gave such a great performance. I want to know how long it took Tom to get that "obscene giggle" in the words of Salieri(Abraham) down pat. Epic performances by both men, and I'm glad at least one of them won

  • what a special and humble actor he is , loved his performance, truly one of a kind!

  • AHHH Tom hulce!!!!! <3 the love of my life..

  • Tom should have won... I think his performance was most moving.. I wore out my VHS and It often left me crying after the film was over...

  • Sunday baby!

  • Tom looked so sincerly thrilled for Abraham's win...

  • brilliantly awkward!

  • Kind of sad the two frontrunners have done nothing of note since Amadeus. Finney, Waterston, and Bridges are great actors, but Hulce and Abraham could have been and seemed to take mediocre or obscure roles, Hulce's role in Dominick and Eugene notewithstanding.

At least we get to see a clean-cut Dude here.

  • tom is just so cute :)

  • Sweet of Abraham.

I thought Tom would start to cry...

But I think Tom deserved the Oscar because Salieri stays Salieri in the whole film and Mozart changes from a funny, happy guy to a sad and poor man which includes a lot more ... talent... I mean ... you don't film a movie in one shot and so in every scene Tom Hulce had to get into how Mozart's personality has already changed and Salieri is always the same kind of character.

But it's okay at least the Oscar was for Amadeus. nice speech though

  • The first time I saw 'Amadeus', even though I loved it, I wasn't sure why Abraham won, but after watching a few more times (it's one of my favorite movies), I realized that Abraham deserved it more because his role was harder.

Both characters are emotional and passionate but Abraham's character is less eccentric and had to convey his emotions simply with a look or a glare.

  • anybody noticed how tom hulce got happy when f murray won???

    he was like YESSSSS....

tom hulce is a very nice guy

  • one of the best oscar speeches ever

  • This is wonderful. I've never been more touched by a film than Amadeus and Abraham's performance is truly a once in a century performance. Milos Forman is a brilliant director who picked a perfect cast to make the perfect film.

  • THANK YOU TOM HULCE FOR EXISTING. I love you in both amadeus and parenthood, and you brought two of my now favorite musicals, Spring Awakening and American Idiot, to the stage. I LOVE YOU! you are such a cutie pie :)

  • he shoulda said to her "you know how to handle a machine gun" ? like he said it to tony rofl

  • tom hulce id about to cry..he's so cute

  • Finally somebody thanks Milos Forman... he deserves the credit and it is nice that as opposed to Saul Zaentz, Michael Douglas and Paul Newman who won awards for his films and didn't even mention him amongs a whole list of names, F. Murray devotes a nice part of his 45 seconds to the director. Mentioning cast and crew and leaving out the director is just plain mean.

  • Awsome ! He was awsome in Amadeus , 3d movies will never chive the intelectiual level of this movie , moust 3d movies are for monkeys

  • MEMORABLE!! :)

  • I loved this guy in Amadeus and also Scarface..One Badass Motherfucker This Murray guy..Shit, why hasn't this guy been in a blockbuster???talent is spewing all over this guy

  • @freedomland11 Well according to Annaud who directed him in The Name of the Rose, winning the oscar really got in his head and he was very arrogant and unprofessional. He made Sean Connery wait for him at the set etc. And when word got around nobody wanted to cast him in blockbusters. Quite sad.

  • this was when the oscars were still kind of classy

  • thank you for such an outstanding upload, Oscars!

  • So simple, yet so amazing. This guy deserved it, yet knew that without Hulce he couldn't have done it. I love a humble guy and he embodies it. He was phenomenal in this film.

  • if they did a SUPER academy awards where all the past winners competed against each other - im pretty sure f murray abraham would STILL win

  • so fucking hot shirley!!!

  • I love how nice he was about Tom Hulce! Yeah, it may have been an act but it was still classy. Great performances by both of them!

  • uve just gotta love this mans elegance as he walks up and accepts his oscar, like the theme 2

  • Oscar to both of them!!

  • Thanks for this post!! Thanks!

  • I always wonder if I'll ever see any performance like his and Hulce's ever again.

  • FINALLY !

  • It's amazing how F. Murray got the atmosphere that surrounded everybody back then: Tom Hulce equally deserved the award. Potato, po-tah-to, I'm mesmerized. Hypnotized. Thanks again.

  • I'm a 19 yr old Oscar's enthusiastic brazilian boy, and I watched every single video, since Charles Chaplin's bow to Marion Cotillard being amused at the city of angels. But NONE of this compare to this video I've been looking for since the time I feel in love with the passionate, delivering and outrageous performance given by F. Murray and Tom Hulce. I'm deeply thankfull. You really made my day. :)

  • Finally get to see this, thanks alot for the upload. One of the finest on-screen performances of all time.

  • that was a competitive year for Best actor category

  • Shirley MacLaine? That woman knows her stuff, very very smart : ) And she's hilarious hehehe :P

  • I think Hulce deserved it more

  • It would have been funny if Hulce had won, and they then cut to Abraham sitting in the audience, giving a withering, Salieri-like glare of envy and hatred.

  • @melosebrainuhoh loooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • @melosebrainuhoh i didg you .

  • Salieri loses, but Murray Abraham wins!!!!

    Great actor and person...!!!

  • salieris probabbly thinking how cruel god is for acknowleding abrahams success for playing him and he gets nothing.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this! Was looking for this video for such a long time...One of the most deserved Oscars ever.

  • "Amadeus" has such incredible actig! It just shows you how great unknown actors can be. In fact, I am disapointed by the fact that all of the great roles nowadays seem to go to the same lame Hollywood stars over and over again. Well, thanks for posting!

  • totally deserved, Murray Abraham is truly great and underrated actor. Though I also loved Finney in "under the volcano"

  • what's the music they're playing?

  • YES! Been looking for this!

  • my favorite film performance of all time!!!!!! its so powerful

  • Omar Suarez ! "This Fucking Guy" as Manolo would say lol

  • Great performance, great speech, just a great human being.

  • helluva performance!

  • he deserved it so much! genius!

  • probably the most deserved Oscar for my money

  • for my money, this is the finest performance ever by an actor in the history of cinema, period, not to mention one of the most deserved oscars, period

  • what a performance, it was well deserved for the great FMA

  • victor banerjee should've been nominated for "a passage to india".

  • @ooks Yes, and he was snubbed even in that ceremony. He was supposed to accept the award on Peggy Ashcroft's behalf but, when her name was announced, as he was standing up Angela Lansbury rushed to the stage and took that moment away from him...

  • they should give f.murray abraham more film roles, better film roles, and less supporting 1 minute roles, he's a good performer and deserves better then what the industry gives him

  • guiles theme would go well with his scene describing music

  • one of the greatest actors whoever graced the earth

  • Quite a disorganised speech. But he deserved this.

  • One of the best wins ever

  • Not only should Huce have been up there with him, his name should've been on that Oscar... but this was the only victory Salieri ever achieved over Mozart.

  • I love Tom Hulce, but F. Murray Abraham completely owned Amadeus. I wish that Hulce had submitted his name in the Supporting Actor category, simply so they both could have won that night.

  • @MisterFezMartin yuh...but tom hulce is the main actor of the amadeus story that's y he is also nominated as best actor

  • Damn, I didn't know McCoy was nominated for an Oscar at one point.

  • I so wish Sam Waterston would've won, at least he ended up having a better career than Abraham.

  • well deserved and a great speech :)

  • well deserved

  • Such a touching send-up to his co-star. Abraham and Hulce were both stunning, and Waterston was incredible as well.

  • love the oscar channel. love love love it !!

  • @dflartist thanks for watching!

  • @dflartist YEAH!! SO DO I!! ;) :)

  • thank you thank you THANK YOU for posting this!!!

  • @artmania1990 you're welcome :)

  • @Oscars Please will you post the Fay Wray tribute at the 70th Academy Awards - no need for the film (for your copyright reasoning) FOR GOD'S SAKE OSCAR JUST SHOW AUNTY FAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how many times do I have to ask??????

  • he looks really different with a mustache

  • At last! Salieri won something over Mozart
