  • Hi, you have a nice list of fav. I've been on your site for the last hour.. You play a fine guitar, & your banjo is pretty good too..I took out my old 28 & gave you the backing you wanted on John Hardy..from an old folkie/bluegrasser. U just couldn't hear me :-) thanks, Randy

  • well thanks a lot randy, I am glad you joined in and like my pickin

  • pretty sweet job man, this song is on my list of tunes to learn. I just learned wildwood flower, this one looks a lot harder. I'm pretty tone def it takes me a while.

  • thanks siggersd, I am glad you are checking my little group of songs out!! hey, come back anytime, and I will try to check your out some more too. I liked the ones I did see already too

  • This was originally made famous by the original Carter Family. It was recorded in 1938 and was an early example or fancy flatpicking. You should listen to Mother Maybelle do it. She would often have the capo way down like you have it.

  • I meant to say 1928.

  • Yes she did-and ole Johnny Cash knew what he was doing getting married into that family of great musicians and artists

  • Excellent strumming and picking!!! That sounded JUST like the version of it that I have... done by Chet Atkins & Hank Snow. Can hardly wait to see what you do next, but I'll have to because I'll be offline till the 3rd or 4th.

  • The reason the guitar is caped off that far up the frets is to play in the cord of G while playing in the c position- so the song can be sung in the right cord. Earl Scruggs used to do it right there where I am playing it. Bet you wouldn't have thought that I have sit side beside with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and played guitar with them, would you? Well, I have. That was when I was still in high school back in the 60s

  • Yes I would believe that. I've learned that a lot of ordinary people have been lucky enough to share some fun times with some pretty famous company. In 1967, thanks to a mutual friend, I got to eat with The Statler Brothers at the Eastern States Exposition.

  • Then I got to watch sattellite TV with the group Alabama in 1984. We were both at the North Georgia State Fair... me as a vendor and them as entertainment. We were all camped next to the Sattelite TV Dish Seller, and he left the dish on for us to watch all night. I smiled all week!!!
