  • Im dyslexic i am proud of it !! i am different in many ways xx

  • GET SOME COLORED GLASSES! Like trying to teach a blind person to drive a car. You can tell them how to shift and turn, but they can't see the road. In 1988, 60 minutes aired a segment, colored glasses for dyslexics. I was severally dyslexic. I went out and got a pair. Purple was my color. Blues or reds are the colors that work best. At 28 I could read for the first time! I could see the print. It's a physical handicap.

  • im dyslexic i have trouble with numbers and im beiging tudored by my teacher nohing makes sense.its not easy being dyslexic but im 3 grade levels ahead in reading it just takes A LOT more enegry

  • my dyslexia reli gets to me, i cn handle it but no one reli cares, my parents pay no attention on how hard i have to work bcuz it takes longer to understand. numbers are my biggest problem lol

  • i have dislexia, and my teachers dont care about my problems

  • i have dislexia

  • How visual attention works, fails, and leads to dyslexia (and what to do about it!)

SEARCH "Dr. Laurie Cestnick" "Harvard University" or "Cestnick" "Dyslexia" on YOUTUBE for video. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

  • damn i believe i got dyslexia

  • @klantee vision therapy that will fix the visual problem

  • From expirence schools would do better not doing anything with Dislixics!

I personally thinking back would of like a before school lesson to practics writting and spelling intead of being taken out of classes in school time and looking like a retarded kid to everyone else.

  • @klantee you must know what you are on about dyslexia is lack of visual memory or verbal memory there is fault in the visual system and verbal memory to fix the visual system you must retrain the brain so it can see it as whole image.the visual system on dyslexic person is not full developed the eye tracking etc .or the inner on the left and side .they can only interpet what they can see .vison accurs in the brain not the eyes

  • @klantee you do talk load of bollocks

  • what is dyslexa alack of visual or auditorial memory

  • @david5767 No we have a strong visual memory and you find a lot of Dyslexics are in the music industry. If I didn't have such a strong visual memory I wouldn't be able to read at all.

I sort of look at the pattern of a written word and remember it.

Reading new words for me is impossible unless someone tells me what it is first.

  • what are they talking about teaching children with dyslexia what about fixing the problem all together they must find neurologicaly cause of it all the visual problem can be fixed

  • American schools have recognized dyslexia since the 1990s and all they provide is an extended testing time. I was diagnosed in 1993. I did not learn that it was a learning disability until 2003. When I asked my teachers for some extra help with readng or some tips on processing the words, they had no idea what to do.

  • i found out i was dyslexic when i was 26, when i was growing up in school the whole time the teachers made me feel like a dummy. Now i make in 1 HR what it takes them a whole year to make

  • @peruface Hi, my daughter is dyslexic, she could read well but when it comes to math ( which she hates a lot) she is struggling. I was wondering if you have any tips on how to solve this problem.

  • @pcast05 You have to spent more time on it then others. Work harder then others at it. That means after school tutors and at home and before school.

  • Problems with comprehending math is called "dyscalculia". My cousin was an A grade student in EVERY course she took except math, in math she was always at the edge of failing no matter how much effort she put into it. It is important to know that dyscalculia or dyslexia does not affect intelligence or IQ (Albert Einstein was dyslexic). It is a strange defect that only affects one particular action the brain does; like reading and writing (dyslexia) or math (dyscalculia).

  • @InSaneTK lol Albert Eistein was NOT dyslexic. That's what they tell dyslexic people I guess to make them feel better.

The fact is that dyslexic people pretty much means stupid people. I don't care WHY you are stupid - whether you can't count, read, memorize understand why this is the odd object of the lot or whatever. That's what intelligence is - pretty much whether you are free from any of these 1000 conditions that some people have.

  • @InSaneTK Also your cousin was A grade in everything except Math? Brother, math is 1/2 of the curriculum and actually the harder part. If you can't do math then you can't do: Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Economics, Biology etc. The list goes on and on and on... And yes it affect IQ because you most likely are not going to be able to read the test or you will take several times longer which pretty much will mean that your IQ is very low. It's all about speed - anybody can solve it otherwise.

  • @kotapaka Dyslexia does not affect your IQ. I have dyslexia but I have a strong ability in math and visual logic. I score between 135 and 140 on IQ tests. I also scored 100% in math problem solving that I had to do for the military. Your not educated about dyslexia at all, and your making uninformed conclusions on matters you have absolutely no say in. You don't know anything about this at all. I get the impression that you're liking the idea of people being stupid, sounds like it by your words.

  • @InSaneTK First of all IQ scores are relative in the sense that the number depends on the std used to calculate it. For instance I get 160 for std of 13 and I think it was 180 for std of 14 and 200 and something for std of 15 and if I know the military as I know it they try and raise your morale so I suspect they use a higher std.

  • @kotapaka All that is trivial. The point is, dyslexia doesn't affect other abilities, it is an arbitrary thing that is still yet to be understood. A few dyslexic people are able to read fluently if they read in mirror text (backwards), the way leonardo da vinci wrote next to his drawings. This has lead to some investigation into the natural direction people scan things they look at. Some people might naturally go left to right, and some right to left. Some dyslexics can read downwards properly.

  • @InSaneTK Second, I'm sick of this "conditions" BS. Have you read "Three Men in a Boat"? I agree that these conditions exist and doctors found them but what happened with the plain old "He's not good at maths." or "He can't read well" or "He's not very smart." I don't care what the reason is - there are 100000 "conditions" and which I group into the term "stupid" because that's what it is at the end. Can't read - you're stupid. Can't understand how Fourier transform works - you're stupid.

  • @kotapaka Your quite polarized aren't you. There is another form of IQ that counts a lot. It's called social IQ, and you fail miserably at it. Your a socially stupid person by your own words. I wouldn't have such ignorant opinions about people. The world is not as transparent as you think it is. Intelligence is a broad spectrum, you can't judge an individuals intellect based on just these things, if that's how you judge people then good luck in life.

  • @kotapaka Something just became really apparent to me. Your not interested in the truth whatever it may be. You prefer to rather label people as stupid and stick with that, regardless of what we might discover. I'm sure your familiar with the scientific method? Why don't you apply it, instead of being religious about your opinions because it suits you emotionally.

  • @peruface So in an hour you make more than what they make annually? What is it that you do?

  • Money? Yeah sure maybe. Time and commitment? That's a joke. Luckily for me I have never had a problem with reading. But I highly doubt teachers can be bothered giving extra help to certain students. Not being able to understand something is a humiliation and teachers just treat these people as troublemakers or kids who can't be bothered. Sure there are a few great teachers out there, who go the extra mile. But the majority of them only care for an easy work day and just can't be stuffed.

  • IM DYSLEXIC AND I TAKE 4 EVER TO READ ASTORY AND WEN I READ A STORY BY THE TIME I READ THE STORY AND GO TO ANSER THE Q'S I 4GET THE STORY :'(

  • @37cath sounds like you my have eye tracking problem

  • i dont i have dyslexic and i hate it so much my ill cuz has a diferent type of dyslexic were he loses his temper i have the forgetful typye of it !!

  • Im almost 22 and dyslexic.

Im so sick of my tutors making me feel so stupid because I learn different!

see...I had the test after I wrote Mosold (blossom) but when I was a kid, dyslexia wasnt a welcome diagnosis! I didnt know till I was 20

  • @klantee

Politics are only getting involved on Dyslexia as so many people in prison have it! Sadly its a fact.

  • im dyslexic and i can read! its just harder, it takes alot more energy understand what the hell is going on in the book

  • @athena10236 i agree with you, im also dyslexic and its really hard when everyone else gets whats going on and you have no clue.

  • Someone might need to do some research into dyslexia as that's not what it' all about. large bodies of text end up looking more like a crossword puzzle. Font size and spacing for reading can make a huge difference to reading for the dyslexic.

  • @DandKGreenwood

It depends on the type of dyslexia. Not all dyslexics have visual processing issues. Most Dyslexics have phonological/auditory processing issues, and I am one of them. I had auditory therapy, speech therapy, and phonics to remediate my Dyslexia.

  • this can't be happening! I hope they are at least paying attention to dyslexia now and will hopefully make the proper moves. Legislation, support, training for the teachers, etc. Best of luck.

  • I watched it again, and he pronounces his A's fine. He said dyslexier. :D Silly guy!!

  • why did he say dislexyer? its DYS-LEX-I-A smart one

  • it's his accent smart one

  • What???? I teach dyslexic kids in the USA. How can this just be recognized? It's 2010. Hard to believe; I am sorry for all of you out there who've not had any intervention.

  • a kid at the age of six brought home a note that said "this kid is to retarded to learn"

that kid was Edison inventor of the light bulb

  • Maybe dyslexics come off lazy because they just give up and they just label them selves as dumb.

  • Thats beacus no one helps us and its like whats the point and i just give up. we just learn different (i have dislexia, ADD)

  • Exactly.

  • sufferers makes us look like we are stupid, tell that to some of the greatest minds of our time.

  • I know it really makes me mad

  • so ive had dislexia but ever since seventh through 12 grade i excelled in english and reading, i just read slower than everone and i studied twice as hard and eventually memorized how each word's prefix and suffix make up the words. that helped me alot and i can now use huge words without thinkin twice about spelling. plus i can read music. yaaay progress lol

  • Ya man kinda sounds like am on the same path you are on.

  • this clip is saying a lot but not saying anything!

  • Personally, I have no problem being (ok I will say it Dyslexic) its the rest of the world that has a problem with it. I can tell u one thing I am not dys anything and I most certainly am not disabled. Funny thing, I came across this wiki page on speed reading a few years ago after reading I thought dam, I have been speed reading my inter life. In fact I could teach a class on it. Read the 1st paragraph if r a lecix and tell me that ant u search wiki for speed reading and tell me that ant u

  • i have been told to try to learn for a few ears now i am trying i am going to a group who tests for dyslexia(plus like 300 other things) i am trying but it is hard i averaged a 1 in elementry school for writing a B in middle school and a B in high school(i have a IEP)

  • Ive seen a thing on tv about the difference bettween a poor reader writer and a dsylexic, bacicly the isnt one, part from the fact the the dsylexic gose to a better school or there perents have the money to send them the a specialist, thats it! the education system in where i live (england) is shit it consently trys to put sqare pegs though a round hole corsing pain and hart breack for kids and perents. Dyslexics Unite!!! lol (spelling errors where left in this message intesionaly)

  • Your right from one point of view. Many can claim they are dyslexic but are just lazy. Dyslexia does exists, I have it. But I view it as NOT being a learning disability, and NOT being lazy. It is a learning difference. A dyslexic learns differently than the average person. Nobody learns the same way. With accommodations such as spell-check, audio recordings in class and peculiar reading techniques just for me, I have been able to learn my way and get my masters in Spanish Literature.

  • I am dyslexic and I don't think it is laziness as much as being thought in away that does work for a dyslexic brain or how it works. it is a real thing that has strongly afflicted me. laziness comes from being thought in away that is not engaging and rather boring to the student.
