• such a good tune

  • Stupid bitch

  • LOOL! Thats my Sociology teacher

  • I freaking LOVED this band and saw them several times here in Los Angeles. I was crazy about Ramona :) Met them once and remember Jane being super nice. Such a fantastic band!

  • I've taken the liberty of fixing the sound on this and submitted it as a response. It took quite a lot of work as the VHS seems to be running at about 97.5% the speed of the original. So I had to spend hours cutting and tweaking to make it work. This song has been in my all time top ten since I was a kid so it was very much a labour of love. Sadly YoutTube have 'detected third party content' on mine and slapped an advert on it :( Hope you don't mind :)

  • YOU CAN SEE WHERE MGMT GET THERE VIDEO INSPIRATIONS FROM!

  • Rare and essential! Finally, persons who are women make a video and actually make an album that is brilliant!

  • she had a great voice. Anyone remember Hereford Civic Hall 1979? Hereford kids are such twats, the gig got stopped!

  • @hufclufc Haha - did it actually get stopped? It was before my time but I remember all the excitement at school on the Monday. Hereford V RAF lads from Credenhill. I think it made front page of local paper and council never allowed any more gigs! That is over 30 years ago now!

  • Definitely gonna blog about this awesome band! New wave rules! -3 I'm staying on this trip for life.

  • How the hell can you not enjoy girl punk? This shit is fucking amazing! Perfect new wave music! Rock on! :)

  • Saw them twice over here in the States ... at the Cuckoo's Nest in Costa Mesa and then the following year at Perkins Palace in Pasadena (California). Loved this band ... had a huge crush on Ramona. Talked to them outside the Cuckoo's Nest, they were so fun. Still have all their records!

  • steife nippel oO

  • BRAVO !!!! ! ! ! !!

  • I wish the singer had been my girlfriend in 1979. Her sense of style melts me....

  • Say what??? But I like. Eat your heart out Mark Robinson.

  • Thank god that fashon died the death way back then, they all look like PCBH extras,,, Catchy tune though !

  • Thank you preserving this and sharing it. This band was ahead of its time.

  • Brilliant. Got a copy of this lurking in a box in the garage somewhere. Ramona is now head of a sixth form? Wish I went there. Mind you, questions would be asked.

  • I heard this on the radio tonight and I had to track the song down. I thought it was the slits at first. I like the Mo-dettes much more.

  • i know the drumerrrr

  • omg its ms wilkins my head of sixth form also used to be my french teacher, she still dances exactly the same lol i h8 her but this had renewed my love for her :D

  • awesome!

    That is AWESOME!!

  • Ramona is a teacher now... MY teacher to be exact! She hasn't changed a bit.. :)

  • Romona's my sociology teacher!

    Bless Mrs Wilkins <3

  • She's wearing one of those pointy bras, like they used to wear in the 1960's! Excellent song, excellent footage

  • Supercool, old 70's and early 80's vid's were so much cooler, I have this song on an old

Stiff comp. and always loved it!

  • sooooo goood!

  • Why am I unable to watch this video

  • a video posted on the internet cannot be "rare."

  • @angelhair0 Well, aren't you the semantic one... It is rare because (a) I have the only physical copy of this (b) until I put it up on YouTube no-one had seen it in 30-years. I think that counts as rare...

  • @whereitsattv i wasn't trying to be a dick. i understand the vhs is extremely rare. you're right, it was a comment on semantics. the term "rare" is so bastardized on the internet these days. i don't even think people know what it means anymore. i just meant the video that is posted on youtube isn't rare because it's public and not tangible. pointless post, i guess.

  • I saw a pic of the Magna Carta on the internet. As it's so common, I thought I'd pick one up as a decorative poster. Unfortunately, by the time I got to the newsagent, they were out of stock. Still, he tells me he's expecting a delivery on Tuesday.

  • @angelhair0 isn't it nice? a rare vid seen by more then 10k viewers now? i like the idea

  • 100k of course

  • @angelhair0 If it was the only one available at the time!

  • Thanks for this.

  • one of the best videos....its great! Thanks for posting....xoxoo

  • Forward with it too. So come and visit, Then kiss it, like only lovers do! I'm not dumb, I'm on the run for someone sweet and tasty. Young men always turn my head, And can't help acting hasty. Now it's said, it's straight to bed, No need to make it harder. I believe in plenty of nice things to stock my larder. I'm a bit weird, you know, Young men always turn my head. Come and be my number one!
  • Smile so sweetly, so completely, dazzle everyone. A smile like yours should be on show, oh gosh it's such good fun. And there's a lot of other things about you that I like, The only thing that's lacking a 1000cc bike. Don't be stupid, don't be limp, No girl likes to love a wimp. Dance and make fun, nicely done Come and be my number one. Your arse is tight, And moves alright, Your eyes are big and blue. And if I was a homely girl I'd like to marry you. But I'm naughty, sweet and haughty,
  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! AWESOME MUSIC THANKS FOR SHARING

  • Oh man, I haven't heard this in ages. Somewhere, I still have an old mix cassette I made from about this time period with this song, Lene Lovich's "Lucky Number", the B52s' instrumental version of "52 Girls", and a lot of Specials and Bodysnatchers on it. As teenagers we used to do 60s dances to stuff like this - the pony, the jerk, the monkey, the frug, etc. Was fun.

  • great song!

  • Remembering seeing them live on 1st LP tour and I think they played this song twice as they ran out of songs for the encores. Fun band but I'd call them more New Wave than punk. Plus didn't they have some odd Swiss connection.

  • I want to hang out with them!

  • This version is10x better than the other videos I've seen on here.

  • I had no idea there was ever a video for this!

  • WOW! LOVE THIS and bought it when it came out when I was about 13. Had lots of pictures of Ramona on my wall - I loved her! Jane (with the funny eyebrows) was married to Woody from Madness and used to work in my local hairdressers - she was ace.

  • Comment removed

  • @pollmeister How come Jane was such a hit with the boys?

  • @pollmeister i've just realised that for the past three years, i've worked with Ramona on a daily basis! - we work in a school in Enfield - completely shocked me when i found out she was in The Mo-Dettes...

  • Theres something about the Guitar Playe.r i wonder what she looks like today??

  • Convergence, sayeth the Lord of Pop and then it was so. Surfer guitar, "syncopated rhythm," sexy punker chicks, a song that still commands attention...

Where did you hide the time machine and is it still functional? London Calling, indeed!

  • 2:16!!

    best part!!

    *

  • one of my favorite star wars moments!!

  • pretty good bassist

  • i rember reading about `em but never heard `em now i`ve have and i don`t rate `em

  • Thanks for sharing

  • i have this single!!! so psyched.... always my fav could not ever figure out what they were saying.... studied nightly til i got it right....

  • I remember the one with the curiously painted eyebrows.

  • How come you're such a hit with the boys, Jane?

  • Bloody hell! Shot in my old college?!

  • Another gem for youtube. I had the album but never really got into it, I liked the Rezillos and B52s better. But this is great! Should have got shown at the time, instead of all those rubbish videos made by those two blokes out of 10cc.

  • This isn't mod.

  • Yeah, at the time it was fucking hilarious that all the mod kids bought it and then had to pretend to like it.

And it's more like the slits than mod. How we punk kiddies laughed.

  • great band!

  • Uber-80s approaching....

  • ♥

  • Great bass, great guitar, great drumming, great lyrics, great vocals and after all these years I find out a great video too! The music establishment was resentful of punk/sex pistols/MalcolmMclaren and so bands like the Mo-Dettes, who should have been on Top of the Pops, were ignored by prime time radio/TV. The media then was controlled by Alan Partridge types like Noel Edmonds. A damn shame.

  • The Mo - dettes - I loved their sound! I just had one album - the Masochistic Opposite. Wonderful - on you tube I find all my memories.

  • the cover of the zine is from Raymond Pettibon.

  • no girl likes to love a wimp.....ahhh shucks!

  • Christ on a bike!! Takes me back a bit. I bought the 45 and loved her sexy voice. Played it so much it drove my old feller mad. Thanks for posting.

  • Cracking stuff - can't get enough fo the video - its rough quality is its charm, I think.... Got The Story So Far a while ago. Great ideas and songs let down by the production, but still worth having all the same.

  • @Leo180868 if you use a good pair of headphones the sound improves dramatically!! and maybe turn up the bass range too...

  • The lead singer's look is so cool and timeless, don't forget this is 1979!

  • didn't know this existed - way way cool - thanks so much for posting.

    I own the single!!!!!

  • My 12/13 year old self was a huge Mo-dettes fan and thirty years later I have got to admire my younger self's taste...musically they were so so tight and had such an infectious sense of groove. The irony is, if they had come from New York they would be talked about in the same hushed tones of reverence reserved for ESG & Liquid Liquid.....my personal favourite is their cover of Paint It Black, file under genius! Thanks for sharing the video, ahh the days of U-matic, Betamax and VHS!

  • gotta luv chroma key

  • Lady in reds eyebrows are out of control. I love it <3

  • lets all go back hot tub time machine

  • June Miles-Kingston is my idol!!! Thanks for this1

  • the single looks like toni basil, the song even sounds a bi like ;''hey mickey''!

  • @jamierourketen you mean "hey mickey" even sounds a little like this, don't you? since it came out 3 years later? not sure that's a compliment tho!

  • Always among my favorite songs from the late 1970s. A creative coming together of UK, US, and French performers. I still have the ad announcing their appearance on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood and one of the very first broadcast of White Mice in LA on KXLU's Stella radio show. Marvelous, swinging number.

  • takes me back... gawdahmanoldbastid

  • This is BRILLIANT!!! I've had this song stuck in my head for years and never knew who did it! They used to play this on the college station that invented the concept of college station - KUSF in San Francisco - around 1981. This song always epitomized English new wave to my then 14 year old ears. Thanks so much for putting this up! Why weren't these girls more famous when the Gogo's made it big?!

  • This is so FAB! *** Loving it BIG TIME *****

  • THAT WAS FUCKING DOPE!

  • A catchy, danceable tune.

  • Great band. Love the vid.

  • this is not mod at all.

  • I can't believe those daft mod bstards I knew thought this was mod. Its bloody awful. I mean reall guff.

  • @Gaudd my dear love, what were you doing in 1980 x x x

  • @jpwoodgate

3rd year in high school. Since you asked dearie.

  • the mo-dettes aren't a mod band so I dunno where you got that from. @Gaudd

  • @stephywilecat . Ok in my less than coherent drunken manner I was laughing about the fact that mods I knew thought this was mod and liked it for that reason alone. Why they thought it was mod, God knows, the name of the band perhaps.

  • I was always rather fond of this - and I've just found it on iTunes! Good things come to those that wait... Great Vid, by the way

  • LOVE the bionic hand!!

  • Tonight was the first time I've heard this song, and I fell in love with it! Thanks for posting!

  • I played bowls with jane Crockford and Woody in 1992 and acted with jan ein an amatuer production of DAISY PULLS IT OFF in the same year. She was a charming little pixie although fond of her booze. Hope she's keeping well.

  • Cheek x x x

  • Unbelievably ahead of its time!!!!!

  • saw these gatsbys liverpool 1980.

  • This video beats out the music video in my head conjured up back in 1980.

  • I am addicted to this video, "dodgy quality" dates it, ads to its charm. Thanxs for posting we need more videos like this!!!! Youtube Rules!!!!

  • dance and make fun nicely done!

  • @schlockhausen" come and be my number one" ha! ha!

  • Fantastic !!!! YouTube rocks!!!!

  • Unreal!

  • i saw them perform at the huddersfild futuristic club aka ivanhoes with department s about 1980

  • Fantastic :) saw these quite a few times back in the day :)

  • oh thanks for this post, I danced to this the entire summer of 1980? never knew what they looked like and now that I see... it's exactly what I imagined all those years ago

  • Thank you so much for posting this video! I hear this song in my head and at the last line the song slows and stops. the record was pressed so close to the center, that this song would ALWAYS slow and stop because my record player just turned off! did this happen to anyone else or is it just me! never mind! thank you and you are wonderful for giving me this song... o please post masochistic opposite .. i am 4eva in yr debt for whitemice anyway!!!

  • Had this single in 1980 in Los Angeles. Loved it. Wish I still had that stack! First time I've seen what they look like, and first time I've read the lyrics. So good. Thanks internet!

  • I'm back to the late late 70's (perhaps early 80's)

I saw them at the London Lyceum with Nina Hagen and then in my home town of Bedford at the Bunyan Centre. Both times they let me take photos of them back and front stage which I now treasure.

    Thank goodness for You Tube

  • The Mo-dettes and the Slits were my first introduction to punk. They rule then and NOW. Thank You!

  • What a great video, thanks for sharing

  • Saw them at The Broadway club in Montreal in the early 80's; still got a hard on LOL!

  • So much better than the Bangles!

  • Yea dude x x x

  • I have to say that Jane kept a cool head (and her temper) whilst those around her were losing their's over the conduct of the egocentric director. She was also maternally protective to the school-age girl extras in the cast. I had a phoney Russian accent and was nearly in 7th heaven surrounding by girls in their 20's wearing school uniforms.

  • @normanby100 So, you're telling us that you're basically a phony kind of person then, right? Just asking dude.

  • Awesome. Thanks so much for saving and sharing this!!!

  • I have all the other lyrics, but can't work out the line that Ramona speaks to camera at 2:33 to 2:36.

    Any ideas?

  • "I'm a bit weird, you know...

young men always turn my head

come an be my number 1...!

  • Thanks, KT (I presume that you're the actual Kate Korus), for solving my 30-year-old mystery of the lyrics.

Without your help, I would never have been able to work out that first line that Ramona speaks.

    Cheers!

  • Amazing video. This will always will be one of my favorite songs; thanks for sharing this.

  • Wow.

  • Great video of one of my favourite tunes.

Heard John Peel play this thirty years ago, and had to rush out and buy the 7" single (still have it).

Didn't realise how cute Ramona Carlier was. How sexy does she look in this video? (Great dancer, as well).

  • It is so fun to discover hip people from different eras... thanks for posting this!!!

  • Thanks so much for this! x

  • Thanks for posting this, takes me back a few decades

  • Waited years for this to come on,What we need now is the three johns "brainbox"
