Homeowners are more often than not simple idiots who believe that their neighbors really want to serve on the Board for free. The truth is while the few may want to do so in good faith, usually he (or she) who volunteers to do the most work on the Board of Directors is doing so with intent of bringing in their contractors so to collect hefty kickbacks, under the table.
If you ever wondered, that’s why all the bills are usually double and triple of what the real market cost is.
Were people not paying smaller increases over time and contributing it to the reserve fund? Can't the association borrow a loan and distribute the assessment over a longer repayment period? $500/$300 is not only outrageous, but probably uncollectable - - most people don't have that much extra cash lying around.
HOA's are nothing but pretty 'Concentration Camps' governed by Boards who are want-a-be wardens, drill sergeants, enforcement lieutenants and nosy neighbors, Who originally wanted you join their clicks. However, once you challenge their authority, Voice a concern or want to Audit the Books they harass, intimidate, threaten to harm you and generally make the HOA environment a living Hell, until the day you & your family decide you've had enough & Move Out!!
