Not all of us are 25 and can take hard training. To me this is a perfectly fine way to train. These guys are working inside the scope of there physical abillity with very smooth and gracefull movements. Good for them. Hard training comes at a cost as I have learned. To chose to follow a lighter path is ones own "wise" choice. I don't think these guys would say that what they do will work in a street fight, and my guess is they would never end up in one. My shodan clip shows my training focus. :)
Dear Guys !! not get angry for my last comments, if you are really practicioners of Aikido, you should manage your fellings. Yes, this is an style of aikido, and its very respectfull. As I see this Sensei is very focused on Ki developement, breathing, an peace, he lives in other dimension, from all the of Aikido dimensions available. Best regards . peace
I have been training as a fighter in various martial arts systems for 6 years now. Things rarely happen in actual combat as they do in the dojo or gym. Aikido is as you said relationship, but can't an attacker break that relationship? Can't an opponent fall out of the synchronization he is induced intentionally?
@Archklaine The idea is that the "relationship" becomes centered around the aikidoka that being said...too many people that defend a specific art do not understand the intensity of violence. I too am an aikido practitioner but understand the cross pollination of principles. It's about the development of the individual and not the art. Too many people defend their particular arts without developing as martial artists.
@Karbouchard Well, I've always felt, martial artists in our time are more artists than martial. It doesn't concern the video you've posted, but what do you think about that? Sacrificing the traditions of martial arts for the sake of effective combat?
@Archklaine I agree about the martial artist being more artists. I think the term artist is incorrect (I am not a linguist nor an ardent student of Japanese culture), but I would call it a "way" i.e the martial way. I do not think there should be any discrepancy between tradition and combat. I think originally all martial training was to enhance survival in combat. Not to say that training does not cross pollinate into other aspects of our lives.
@archklaine to add, No training comes close to actual combat. I am also not saying that only top athletes or Soldiers should practice in the martial arts. I am saying that the least we can do is be honest in our training. If you have no martial intent, why not yoga? I might have been harsh in my previous comments and mean no disrespect. I would however not teach students this approach. If there is "ki" it comes from training technique not the other way around.
@Archklaine You pay me a great compliment. Thank you. We are all students in a fashion. You however are your greatest teacher. Other's might show the path but there is a great divide between knowing it and walking it. I have a feeling you will make a great student no matter where you train.
This is NOT aikido and this does not display the intent of aikido. Just useless recreational dancing around sissy crap. What happened to protect yourself, strike(atemi), move off the line, enter, control, immobilize and be ready for the next oncoming attack. Out the f******* window.
@percyeve1 This is Dancing. Recreational dancing. AIKIDO IS A MARTIAL ART. Sorry but in real life people WILL RESIST and attack with MAXIMUM violence. Soooo, your just going to walk in and the assailant will let you apply a technique. Good Luck! I bet none of this people have no experience in a violent situation in the real world. Once you find yourself in a violent situation in REAL LIFE then will find the purpose of aikido and then you will CHANGE YOUR PERCEPTION in training.

years ago i trained myself with this sensei his movement are realy effective in project and unbalance the "aggressor". The students in video follow the projection movement as is suppose todo otherwise theirs arms can be seriusly injuried cause lever jokes.
I can agree aikido isn't much effective in "streetfighting" becouse all those movement need more skill than dodge or parry.
those are very interesting moves but the one when you have two people on both sides and spin knock down there is way to many problems with the form such as if the enemy moves forward in the prosses. it increases chance of loss of balance and has a even greater chance for a loss.
@chronoz585 P.S the consept of aikido is the flow of movement soo how does anyone think this isn't practice? some of practices are only the flow of movement not the moves themselves.
What kind of crap is this ??? Magic??? There are other shihans out there who move their arms, body, and legs. Only really old shihans like 70 over of age are acceptable to move in this way. To someone young this style looks lazy and a shame to to others who practice Aikido with rigor. Search for the Shihan called Yokota and he has some really great moves.
Geezuz. Another joke. Does this moron think that someone is just going to let him dance around them like this. I squared off with a 4th degree aikidoka and kicked his ass up one side and down the other. I wrestled in college and also took wing chun for 15 years and kept my center to him. He moved and I moved with him. The kook said it wasn't fair.
Dance? There is no dancing here. It is practise. You are aware of the fact, that Aikido is called "the art of peace", right? Not "throw him brutally on the floor"!
Many people are apperently very ignorant to the power of the mans Ki. It is very impressive.
@Mistwhisper You poor poor person. This is not practice, its a farce rapped up in idiotic romanticism which you've obviously fell for. You'd be better off going to a dance class, at least you would be in better physical shape and you would have learned something practical that you can use like dancing. As for this, there is nothing to be gained here.
@cypsation I was laughing real hard as I read this. I have actually tried this "farce", and the effectivity of it amaze me still.
You should not talk about getting in better physical shape, as the warm up and training is very hard. Also about the practical part - I learn to defend myself, as this is a martial art. My teacher showed me a technique, or rather, he tried it out on me, and I was helpless! It didn't hurt at all, but I could not move either.
did you tried this in a real fight this is a fake aikido i don`t think morihei ueshiba made so at start hi was a master when he started to do what you are doing
Forgiving the obvious, that they are engaged in a demonstration, it appears as if they are enjoying themselves. Not much else matters. In my opinion, Aikido contains fundamental movements that can be utilized in any body art. So, whether or not some of these techniques are martially superior to another, they are training their bodies and minds towards a state of unification. Aikido ain't Krav Maga and that's exactly why some people like it so much.
I'd be impressed if he could do these ki nds KI techniques with a 10kyu student that doesn't know what fall is coming next. That would show true mastery. Using DANs?NOcontactNo Aikido, I am just not sure if I buy into this part of Aikido. I've been in toomany fights and I think KImoves couldpossibly work if done exactly at the right time the person would need to be scared of you. someone with no fear would stop freeze their energy and pop you in the mouth. Like it or not

@JunebugPresentsLLC I"m a Yoshinkan Aikido practitioner so my style is a lot more militaristic. Gozo Shioda what I understand actually used Yoshinkan in combat. I believe in Ki but I think Ki has its own limitations otherwise people would shoot balls of energy out of their eyes LOL. This stuff is valid, but I think as an art form. Maybe with proper understanding of the practical side to Aikido one could transition the techniques to combat. What branch of Aikido do you study?
@budokai100mph I study Aikikai. I train with practitioners who studied both Aikikai and Yoshinkai. I plan on doing the same when I can make the time. I hear its harder but Aikikai is pretty hard too, because even though we try to stay with tradition, instructors in the Aikikai teach in a different way than tradition. Those I know that do both says that Yoshinkai is also more structured than Aikikai. This video, however, looks like one of those "Ki" schools.
@percyeve1 Probably a bit of both as you suggested. I do not intentionally offend. The problem is that aikido is a martial art first and foremost. Technique should be strong and effective. Look at 0:18 ....is that a joke? the instructor hadn't even finished the technique. That guy is not been sincere, he is just dancing and flopping around. From what I understand, Aikido is still a martial art, I mean, the guy has to fall down when he has to, not before...I don't think a soft practice equals a fake practice.

Looks pretty much like ki-aikido under Yoshigasaki Sensei. Is this aikikai or ki-aikido?
What dan-grade does this guy have?
I am really gratefull for this video. Thank you.

It's because of this rubbish that I stopped studying gendai budo. This shite should not be called a "martial" art.

Last time I checked, Aikido was still a Budo, not a dance.

Just some hippies doing what they call martial art.
Looks like a sect, with one guru and his conditionned students.

why is that assessment?

my english is not very good, let's see...
