Chogyam Trunpa Rinpoche was a lay person right? I thought a monk has only possession of monk's robe & alms bowl? I find it strange for a monk to wear a lay man's clothing. Doesn't he confuse buddhists with his appearance? Is this sign of degeneration? Can you imagine HH Dalai Lama appearing in a Dunhill suit?
@clearlightvision I can. The outer appearance is just a display to our senses. What makes a guru is the quality of his/her mind. I attended to Khyabje Kalu's first teaching, and had the great honor to talk to him after that. He is no ordinary being, but an enlightened master. Don't let appearances deceive you. His ordinary appearance is just one more teaching.
His behavior is principally motivated by the intention to undercut the temptation of students becoming distracted by exotic cultures and dress, and by their preconceptions of how a guru should behave....something very similar to Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche...
Meeting H. E. Kalu Rinpoche was awesome, he's very approachable, and fun to talk with, he sits among us instead of on a throne...my generation is fortunate to have such a teacher that we may identify with him. Rinpoche, I <3 you and that is enough to guide my beliefs in the Dharma, it's not you who is "disastrous" to the Dharma...it's the hateful chatter rising around you...
he is real charlatan even at this young age. what could he be in the future? the answer is monsterous charlatan. in the first place his teachings are not compatiable with genuine dharma and in the second place his conduct contradicts with his teaching and real dharma. this guy is disasterous for genuine dharma. but i clearly understand as the demand is so the supply wiil be. be careful!!!!!!!!
